Finally finished editing that transcript. At this point the only person I'm rooting for in this case is the judge.

Bio

I'm a 24 year old college student with a "tragic past" and a series of flunked schools and medical bills. Roleplaying has been my one escape from a harsh reality while growing up, and I really appreciate this site and everyone on it.

I've been on Roleplayer Guild for eight years, going on nine in a few months.

I started roleplaying at 13 on an Invader Zim fan site... I accept my shame and disgrace.

Well, not exactly. You’d certain put people at a disadvantage tactically by separating them, as Familiars need to willingly give up their mana to a Mage, which they can only do with the Mage is nearby. And the emotional bonds aren’t quite that destabilizing. Separation anxiety doesn’t work that way at all. If this hypothetical situation did happen to a pair that had strong empathy and separation anxiety, they would definitely feel more anxious, bothered, tense, and upset without their partner. But driven insane? Probably not. Rather, the circumstances of being kidnapped would ultimately prove more damaging than being separated from your partner.

With that being said, Natsu, please do not engage in kidnapping and nazi-esque experiments in torture, it’s very rude and rather unbecoming. :P
God though, I can't believe some people don't find the bonding horrifying.
I mean, your self is the most personal and private thing about a person, no matter what, you are you. Sharing that with another would be a massive act of trust and probably scary.

It is a massive act of trust. It's tying the souls together. You remain yourself, but you also have another person always with you. Because of this, its not unheard of for certain side effects to happen, such as increased empathy, thought reading, a desire to always be near your partner, separation anxiety, and even dream linking. It’s rare for more than one to happen to a certain pair, but they do occasionally happen.

And as pointed out before, this practice is cultural. It’s as normal here as losing baby teeth or celebrating a bar mitzvah or quincenera. There will be some who are unsure about sharing their soul with another person, but this culture has a profound emphasis on unity. The idea that it is not only healthy, but the natural state of the universe for mages and familiars to be bonded is the deep underlying motif here.

Also, @TheHangedMan, @Hammerman, there’s no need to be hasty, as you all are in the second group. If you’ll re-read the announcement, I ask that those in the second group please wait for everyone in the first group to have a chance to post once. Please be respectful of each other, there’s no race here. : )
@TheHangedMan
If you're a mage taking the Monster Hunter class, then you absolutely need your familiar. Your familiar is now not another person, but a separate extension of yourself. You need them to cast spells that will be of any use in monster hunting. In vice versa, Familiars who want to take the course need their Mages as well, because it's only when their burden of mana is relieved that their Ability is at its peak processing. The other electives you can take independent of your partner, but if you want to take Monster Hunting, you need your partner.

And of course it's like high school, silly. It is a high school. And to some, maybe a curfew is just a suggestion. You don't have to be asleep by 10:00, just in your rooms. Of course, if you're willing to risk detention, you can of course roam the school at night.
Announcement!

Our scene change has begun! Your characters are all in the Sun Room, a large ceremonial room usually only open for special events! From here, your characters will be partnered with each other! To explain what happens during and after this ceremony, I’ll break it up into three pieces.

1. Your characters will approach the podium, and will hold out their hands to each other. The two Druids will take your character’s hands, say some fancy words, and a magical seal will appear on your right hands. If you’re curious, the seal will look something like this.

The seal is normal and will be there as long as the sacramentum is in place. It will not hurt getting it, though you may feel a slight tingling as you get it. The seal is red in color, and very faint when the mage is not using magic. Once they begin using magic, however, the seal will glow and continue to do so until mana has stopped being channeled.

2. After your characters have made the bond, a volunteer (maybe two, if you have a lot of luggage) will show you and your partner to your dorms. The volunteers are seniors at the academy, so if you want to write in a little NPC chatter with them, feel free. Once you get to your dorms, you can unpack. Errorist, being the lovely bat-frog-fish thing they are, drew the layout of the dorms here.

3. Before the volunteers depart, they will give you paperwork to fill out your desired electives classes. If your character wants to take the Monster Hunting class, now is the time for them to convince their partner to take it too. After filling out this paperwork, you can return it to the volunteers, who will disappear back to their NPC duties. You may then spend time in your room, socialize with your partner, or meander around the school grounds. You may not return to the Sun Room or enter the classrooms, but you are allowed to go to the dining hall, the gardens, the library, the courtyard, the various school grounds, and down into town, where the ropes will have been removed and life resuming as usual.

In addition, to prevent over crowding of the podium and everyone rushing up at once, we’re gonna stage things in 3 groups. The first group gets to go up to the podium and do their ritual first, before moving on the their dorms. Once everyone from that first group has a chance to post, we’ll do the second group, then the third. This way, players who have been stuck so far have a chance to build up their points, and players who have notified us of their absences have a little more time before they return.
The groups are:
Group 1
Nancy Jones / Nathaniel Zane Elswood @MechonRaptor @onenote
Felicity Goldberg / Korrigan Umbraisis @Raijinslayer [@me lol]
Monty Goldberg / Regis Dimitrios @Discontent @The Errorist
Janine Alyra / Henri Amberhall @General Scales @Avanhelsing

Group 2
Ruby Doer / Loke Blackhardt @onenote @HeartlessNobody
Beatrice Quincy / Kyra Valentina @The Errorist @Sorrelmyst
Talia Nitro / Leo John de Couer @Redmarshmellow @TheHangedMan
Liliac de Blanc / Marth Carter @pkken @Hammerman

Group 3
Richard J. Bateman / Anelise D/Nell @SunsetRoses [@me again lol]
Clyde Lee / Robert Allen @Klaykid @Natsu
Ngiwan Ziajk Liep, Vyvyan Imperial / ???? @Republic

Again, please allow everyone in the first group to post first before we move on to group 2, and then group 3. Once everyone in group 3 have had their sacramentum made, we’ll begin another countdown to the next scene change, where you will have your first day of class.

Speaking of classes, Errorist has also drawn up student schedules for you!
7:00 am to 7:55 am- Breakfast
8:00 am to 8:55 am- History
9:00 am to 9:55 am- Algebra
10:00 am to 10:55 am- Science: Chemistry and potions

4:00 pm to 4:55 pm- Second elective
5:00 pm- School ends
6:00 pm to 7:00 pm- Dinner
Curfew is 10:00 pm on weekdays, and 11:00 pm on weekends.

All students will be in the same core classes, so you can interact with your classmates plenty! As for electives, you can pick those and stick them in the Misc. section of your character sheet, if you’re interested in keeping track of them! Both the class schedule and the dorm layout will be added to the first OOC page, so you can check them at any time!

With that said, have fun making your partners! If you want to do a collab with your partner to post, we will give you both points for your work done! Remember to keep track of those points, you’re gonna need them in time!
The Ceremony of Names

Richard J. Bateman

The Sun Room was the common name for the largest room in the Academy. Originally built as a place of worship, it was 20,000 square feet, with soaring ceilings and stained glass windows that let in light in a brilliance of dazzling rainbows. Students changed color as they stepped through the sunbeams, skin turning blue and hair wild green, as though the building were trying to claim the people inside as additions to its artwork, new jewels to place upon its crown. On the floor, the twelve pointed star, the holy sign of the soul, was emblazoned in gold tiles. Each pillar was crawling with imagery of the zodiac signs, from the fiery salamander to the frozen ice fox, looking as though they would burst from their murals and strut proudly around the room.

Richard had only been inside the Sun Room 4 times before, and every time it took his breath away. Though he didn’t believe in the old ways or forces of nature, even someone as atheist as he could feel the power resonating in this room. A steady pulse, a buzz in the air, the fluctuating temperatures and invisible winds from nowhere. There was no mistaking it, this old and ancient room was a place where magic concentrated inexplicably. Any familiar here could tell, deep down, through a sense science could still not explain. An animalistic instinct that made them just know. This was a place where gods walked.

The students poured in through the building, all making their way towards the old podium. Various teachers and staff stood near the podium, along with a large deal of volunteers from the senior class. Which made sense, he guessed, since the second year was pretty much the most important year for students. Not only did they get bonded here, but a volunteer would lead them off to their dorms. The second year dorms were far different from the first year. First years got a communal dorm that was separated by gender, with 8 boys sharing 4 bunkbeds. Rather hellish for someone who valued privacy as much as he did. But second years were different. Second years got a dorm with only them and their partner, and even had a sliding wall! Granted they still shared a bathroom and laundry facilities, but that would be better than the communal showers of the first year dorms.

Upon the podium stood two priests, Druids of the Holy Star, dressed in their regalia of white, purple, and gold. A mage and familiar pair, most likely. Their hair was a stark white, though neither seemed terribly old, the man’s beard was neatly trimmed and the woman’s hair in a tight, matronly bun. They stood before the altar, with quiet smiles on their faces, speaking to the headmaster. Headmaster Magnus Loyola was more of a bear than a man, tall, burly, with impossibly wide arms and a head twice as big as a watermelon. Rowdy black hair sprouted from his brown scalp like thundering storm clouds seeking to return to the sky, without pattern or meaning, a crazed halo of hair. His beard descended down to his chest in a frizzy madness, and between the receding storm clouds of his head and the tumultuous sea of his chin, the only part of his face that was visible were his forehead, eyes, and nose. And what a face it was! Eyebrows thicker than one’s thumb stood out from his shiny scalp, his gold rimmed pince-nez clasped onto a large, thing ridged hook-nose that magnified his wide, dark eyes. If his body was that of a bear, then his face was surely stolen from a rather brusque owl. Who likely wanted it back.

As soon as all the students were inside the Sun Room, the doors were closed behind them, the last stragglers ushered in by attendants. With that, Headmaster Loyola stepped up to the podium, prepped his microphone, and began to speak.
“Welcome back, students, welcome back! I trust you all had fun on your summer vacations, and are ready for another long, hard, grueling year of slavery?” he asked, pretending to be stern. This was a part of his routine that Richard had learned from the previous year, and he smiled as playful boos rang out from among the crowd. Loyola pretended to look surprised, patting his chest and pulling a sheet of paper from his coat pocket.
“Oh! Oh my, pardon me, that was my speech for the third years! Well, at least you all know you know what you have to look forwards too. Don’t tell the first years, we don’t want them escaping!” he joked, provoking some laughter from around the room.

He seemed to smile, though it was hard to tell with his immense beard in the way, and continued on with his speech.
“As you all know, this is a very important year for you. This is the year that you will all take the sacramentum, and undergo the binding of the soul. Since the dawn of man, there has always been the mage and the familiar, who have always required one another in a constant balance. In the ancient days, there were those who believed that mages and familiars were once one, a perfect being, a near god. The Magi. But these Magi were not perfect. They made war against another, they leveled mountains and dried up the sea. They killed one another in bloodsport, and destroyed each other’s homes. They threw off the natural balance of the universe, for their power was too great. And so, the gods came down from heaven, and split all of the Magi into smaller, weaker beings. Those who could use magic, but were weak in their reserves, and those who had had too much magic, but could not use it. The goal of these ancient gods was to create a more harmonious world, where the ancient humans would learn to accept each other, work with each other, and rely on one another. The creation of a sacred bond, tying the now separate souls together, and learning to live in peace.”

He paused to clear his throat before continuing.
“This is the mythology of our people, of course. To some, a convenient explanation, to others, to word of god. But whether the origins of this story is true or not, one cannot deny the power that the sacramentum brings. It is a vital step in your education, and undertaking it marks that you are no longer mere children. With this ceremony, you step into the world of adulthood together, and find your place as equals. Here you are educated not merely on how to master your powers and trades, but on how to shape the world as the next generation of leaders, peacekeepers, teachers, and guardians. This school is here for you to flourish, and to help the world flourish in turn.”

He ended his speech and gestured to the two druids behind him, who stepped forward, clasping their hands.
“To this end, I have invited here magisters Lucinda and Volos to enact the sacramentum. I will call you up by name, two at a time, to be bonded by them. Afterwards, one of our lovely volunteers will show you to your dorms. Your elective choices are due by 6:00, and I hope to see you all at dinner. And now, without further ado, let us begin the ceremony.” and with that, the two Druids stepped forth, and Loyola began calling names.

Felicity Goldberg

Felicity could hardly contain her excitement, bouncing on her toes as she stood next to her brother and best friend. The section of the room they were in painted them in a vibrant red, and the bright colors that turned people into colored macarons made the scene more magical. It was like a fairytale, something out of a dream. People walked up to the podium when their names were called, meeting each other in the middle. The Druids took their hands and recited an ancient oath, one Felicity couldn’t recognize at all. It was alien to the tongue and almost unnatural to the ears, and hearing it repeated over and over brought a shiver up her spine.

The building anticipation had her jittery, and she clung to her twin, pulling on Monty’s sleeve. Though she couldn’t speak, she gave him an excited smile, trying to hide her nervousness. This was the moment of truth, the point where she would get her partner. She had to bounce, or else she was scared she might start shaking and lose control of her knees. And if she did that, then she couldn’t exactly walk up the stairs to get her partner! No, she had to wait, wait and listen for her name to be called out. Then she could meet her partner, and then go to her room and lose her legs. But not before!

“Felicity Joy Goldberg and Korrigan Umbraisis!” Headmaster Loyola called out, scanning the crowd. Despite herself, Felicity almost passed out from the shock of hearing her own name. She staggered slightly, groping for her suitcase and squeezing her brother’s hand before she hurried up to the podium. She had to leave the luggage near the side, before stepping up next to the female Druid, and pausing before the pedestal. She was up their before her partner then, who would be arriving any second! Korrigan Umbraisis? A weird name, but it sounded familiar. Where had she heard it before? Well, she would see them in a few seconds anyway, she would wait!
@Natsu
I won't go into the specifics of what happened. However, as a lesson to take away from this, if I ever PM one of you about an important issue, the proper thing to do is NOT to ignore me and post elsewhere instead. :)
Maybe due to KlayKids absense, I Could take Republic's familiar?

Well Klaykid is coming back within the next few days, and the scene change will be staggered in a way that gives the people designated last more time to come back or find new partners. However, if a new person doesn't apply within the next 24-48 hours, we may take you up on that offer. We're going over a plethora of possibilities right now, and if our attempts to recruit a new person fail, we may host a sort of raffle for players interested in having a second character. But thank you for your offer! We will be considering it!
Announcements!

Due to their behavior, @Sailorsadie has been kicked from this RP. Their character will be removed from the OOC post, and they are no longer welcome to post IC or OOC.

@General Scales, @Avanhelsing, as you’re now both short a partner, we’ve decided you will be paired together. I hope you’ll both find this arrangement more preferable to your previous ones.

In addition, due to their overall absence from the site, @GummyCat will be moved down to the waiting list. This is because they’ve been absent for several days, and frankly we don’t know their status or where they are. They are not being kicked. If/When they return, we will be happy to remove them from the waiting list and welcome them back into the RP.

With that being said, @HeartlessNobody, Congratulations! Your magic type is fire! You control the element of flames, scorching heat and destructive blaze! Fire is one of the only magic types that can come from nothing, requiring only a dry environment with lots of air to be summoned! Currently, you only know Summon, so you can summon fire, but can’t do much else with it. With the power of a Familiar and enough practice, however, you can learn to control your magic, make new shapes, hotter blazes, and fire that long lasts its natural counterparts! Careful not to get burned, though!
In addition, your familiar is Ruby Doer, controlled by @onenote!

And lastly, @Republic, don’t worry, just because you lack a partner doesn’t mean you’re being put on the waiting list. We’re in the process of discussing a possible arrangement for you until a mage is accepted for you, and we’ve bumped the Interest Check to hopefully attract new players. We’re hoping to give you as much time as possible before the Ceremony, in hopes a new mage will join the group. If one does not, worry not, we do have contingency plans in place to help you so that you don’t fall behind in the story or get placed back on the waiting list. :)

With that, these announcements are done! The scene change begins in 3 hours time! Hope y’all are excited!
Bumping once again! Again, this RP is always open! Come over and check us out!

@Ryik
Thank you for telling us, and good luck with your future responsibilities and RPs.

In other news, we're still on schedule for the scene change, and people who've had their partners drop will be reassigned soon. So worry not!
