Fabine shrugs in response. "Take someone I wouldn't expect you to pick." He grins, a bit interested in her plan. "I'm curious what you're planning to do." He brushes his hands off and gets to his feet.

Vera nodded slightly. She turned her back to him again, beginning to walk away as she considered some of her possibilities. Suddenly, a crazy idea popped into her head; it wasn't just a crazy idea, it was probably a terrible idea. He said to pick someone he wouldn't expect... She turned around slowly and met his gaze. "Come with me," she said, as more of a statement rather than a request. "I want to show you more than just that I can drop prisoners at your feet. And maybe I could even learn a thing or two from you," she added reluctantly.

Fabine groans. "I didn't say right now you idiot." He finishes his squirrel. "And I didn't say that you had to do it alone. Seriously Vera, already failing. A second takes time and energy into consideration. As well as the situation. Answer me this, does that make sense, running off on your own."

Vera turned back to face him and defended herself firmly. "It's my decision that an attack party isn't the way to do this. Only one or two Broms are necessary for this mission; it'd be much easier to use stealth rather than force." She paused for a long moment. She used a softer voice as she continued. "I just need to recruit one other Brom and then I'm ready."

Fabine ponders this. He smirks. "I have a fun challenging task for you." He shrugs his shoulders and tears into his squirrel. "The Rabins have taken two of our own. If you can manage to rescue them from the Rabin camp, you'll be my new second. And if you fail, I'm appointing Jayden as my second, no questions asked."

Vera's eyes widened slightly, then she gritted her teeth. "Fine. I'll do it." She stood up and pulled her bow over he shoulder. She took a few steps towards the camp exit, but then chuckled slightly and glanced over her shoulder at him. "It must be fun to be you," she commented before turning back towards the exit.

Fabine turns his squirrel slowly. "I see. So you came here with a huge speech about how weak we are without a second-in-command, then ask for the job yourself. Did you intend to make me angry? Is that the idea? Push my buttons until I cave to letting you be the second?" He scoffs and pulls his squirrel off the fire, checking it for any uncooked portions. "I'd only make you my second if you could prove to me that you deserve the job."

Vera narrows her eyes. "I'm not trying to irritate you here, Fabine. That wouldn't do me any good, now would it?" she pointed out with a sigh. Her eyes narrowed even further at the challenge, and she smirked. "A second would need to be ready for anything." Her smile disappeared. "I really want this, Fabine. So, try me."

Fabine finishes skinning his squirrel and then sticks it on a stick, placing it over the fire to cook. He meets her gaze and nods. "I agree. Weakness is something that I hate." He then tilts his head. "So what you're saying is that I'm making a mistake. As leader." He raises an eyebrow. "You're not off to a very good start here."

"Yes," Vera defends stubbornly. "That is what I'm saying. And I'm not here to accuse you or anything, because I get that taking an unqualified second-in-command would be almost as bad as none at all." She paused. "But I think that taking me into that position would make us stronger."

Fabine rolls his eyes. "It's always something with you people." He says, walking past her. "I'm eating, if you have a problem with that, it will have to wait." He says firmly, heading over to the pile of food and rummaging through it. He finds a squirrel and sits at a fire to skin it. He glances at her with a raised eyebrow. "Well?"

Vera sat down opposite him and met his gaze seriously. "I don't care if you eat, so long as you listen." Her gaze had a glint of ferocity, demanding an ounce of his respect. "I know that if there's one thing you hate, it's weakness. So I think it's a mistake to leave the Broms without a second-in-command."

Fabine walks out of his tent, his usual scowl on his face. He glances around the camp, snorting. "Nothing exciting going on." He says to himself, before heading over to one of the fires in the middle of camp to get something to eat. He doesn't notice Vera heading out of her tent as he walks past her tent on his way.

Vera approached Fabine and looked him in the eye politely. "Fabine, I want to talk to you about something," she began calmly, masking her nervousness well. She tried her best to skip the small talk, knowing it would only bore him. She watched him carefuly, trying to interpret his reaction.
Vera blinked awake and rubbed the sleep out of her eyes. She leapt out of bed and quickly got ready for the morning. She tried to ignore the anxiety that was nagging her, but pushed it away. Nothing to do but make my case, she thought firmly, lacing up her laces. She threw her bow over her shoulder and jogged out of her tent, hoping to intercept Fabine on his way out to patrol.

Ryder grabbed his chest in mock agony. "Again with the insults! I'm terrible. Despicable. A monster. That you would insinuate otherwise is heartbreaking." He grinned. "You on the other hand are no where near annoying enough to be a Rabin. You're actually the opposite really. It's mind boggling."

Nova laughed and rolled her eyes. "You're such a drama queen," she teased gently. She met his gaze and gave him a warm, genuine smile. She blinked and her eyes widened slightly, startled. I shouldn't be here, she thought frustratedly.

Ryder chuckled. "Who said anything about a compliment? We Broms are despicable. I was trying to insult you." He winked at her. "But in my defense, you shot an arrow at my head. I feel I'm within my rights to insult you."

Nova scoffed. "You should be thanking me for missing!" she pointed out with a laugh. She raised an eyebrow at him. "You know, you're insisting how you're such a tough, mean guy, but you really don't seem that way at heart," she said softly.
