Just for clarification, what do the demons look like? Are they like bloodletters from 40K? Also I intend to post tomorrow
The guard were now finishing up, most of the bats had exhausted themselves on the guard and were either flying off or dying. He looked around at the guardsmen, a few cuts and battered shields but all were alive and kicking. "Keep the Scholar safe while we deal with this!" Ionathan looked round to see the Ioannes fighting the demon with the others, Ionathan understood that by attacking the demon with his guard it would only hinder the group and the Scholar was dangerously exposed to attacks, but he could see townsfolk in the buildings nearest to the demon Ionathan could not let the demon take them. "Guardsman, you have done well but there is still work to be done, search those buildings and get any townsfolk out of the there, do not get close to the demon or the fighters, keep your head down and get the civilians out!" with nods the guardsmen took off into the surrounding buildings closest to the fighting.

Ionathan now ran over to the scholar, he did not want to snap her from concentration so he just stood a few feet to her right and quickly checked his equipment. His shield was in a bad shape the bats did a good job in splintering the centre and his spear was also in bad shape with the leaf shaped spear point loose, soon he will have to draw his longsword which was his preferred weapon, given to him at the end of the war by General Stubbs himself, it had never seen combat and Ionathan would love for his blades first kill to be a demon but he had to do his duty and guard the scholar.

Ionathan went into a defensive stance, kept an eye on the surroundings and the other eye on the scholar.

I do say! It looks like the opportune time for me to post, expect it some time tomorrow. Also sorry for never talking I had a lot of coursework to hand in and so little time to do it.
"If not, well, I'll help the people anyway!"

While Ionathan agreed that helping the people was a priority, he had to be in the center of the action to lead the guardsmen. Picking four guardsman out of the circle, Ionathan gave them orders "Get the civilians indoors away from this chaos" Ionathan now looked at the people the foreigner was sending to the temple "that temple should be a good place for the civilians to hide, I need two of you guarding the temple and the other two helping that man in aiding the townsfolk, keep your head low and you should be fine" with a nod he let them go rushing towards the temple and the foreigner "It's not half the guardsman here, but I hope it helps" Ionathan said as he looked on at the foreigner.

Ionathan now had a shortage of manpower with the circle around the Marshals corpse had now grown smaller and was being pressed on all sides by bats, Ionathan needed more men but at the same time needed to keep the remaining bats from harming his guards and the foreigner while they got the townsfolk out of harms way. He grabbed the horn of his belt, with short intervals between each blow Ionathan blew the horn as loud as he could, this was sure to attract more guards and to keep the bats of the townsfolk. The bats seamed to attack the guards more with demonic frenzy, throwing themselves at the shields of the remaining guardsman.

Ionathan put the horn on his belt and took a place in the orbem and braced "This is it guardsman, no doubt, no fear!"

Ionathan had not joined in the conversation, preferring to let the others talk; his assignment after all was to accompany the group. Then there were the screams, Ionathan immediately rushed to the scene as did others when he got there it was total chaos, bats were attacking townsfolk and the guardsman were broken, the body of the lord marshal was lay down in the ground.

A shot sound from just in front of Ionathan it was the foreigner with a smoking rifle, "I'll rush the enemy leader - cover me against the bats!" Ionathan immediately set to work on this request and rushed to the lord marshals corpse, he needed to rally the guards , a bat flew at him, he used his spear to hit it out of the sky and when it was sprawling on the ground stamped on its head and moved on he did not have time to fight the bats. Ionathan stood over the Marshals corpse, planted his Sarcina in the ground, held his spear high and said "Too me guardsman too me, Rally you spineless women!" the guardsman heard this order and gathered around him "Guardsman! Form Oblem!" with clockwork discipline the guardsman gathered around Ionathan and form a circle with the shields overlapping.

Ionathan looked down at the Lord marshals corpse, it was a sorry sight indeed, the body had a hole going straight through the heart. The wound itself looked burned, no blood was coming forth from the wound. The corpse had been bitten by bats and the body was covered in gashes and wounds. Ionathan looked over the shields at the innocent townsfolk being attacked and the numerous bats in the foreigners way. He had to get the bats off of the foreigner and the townsfolk "Guardsman! Bash your shields!" The guardsman hit their spears on their shields to make noise. It worked to the extent that a large proportion of bats now started attacking the guardsman, however, some still remained to attack the townsfolk."Stand true men of Waeldeshore!" Ionathan cried and with that the guard held their position.

Sorry for the late post everyone, my college just decided to dump a load of deadlines on me and I had to work my socks off. @The Harbinger of Ferocity I hope you don't mind Ionathan asking The Red another question
"I will not speak to know their character, half-blood, but know that I reside in neither of these camps. My business is to kill the sworn enemy. This I will do, with... or without them."

Throughout the answer Ionathan listened with increasing approval, Ionathan liked his straight forward attitude, his bluntness and his dutiful attitude to his "business". Impressed by the answer Ionathan thanked the man, he could get alone with this man Ionathan thought, after all the wisest are usually the ones who hold there tongue. Richard then came walking up to Ionathan with some kind of marching swagger and passed the Sarcina to Ionathan and after exchanging pleasantries continued his patrol of the streets.

Ionathan inspected the Sarcina, a T shaped pole with a satchel and a rolled up bedroll on top and various cooking equipment dangling on the sides, inside the satchel Ionathan found a mess kit, a winter blanket, 5 days rations and a cloak. Ionathan preferred the Sarcina to backpacks as it rests against the shoulder as you march rather than hampering your back while also being a rather good walking stick.
Ionathan the turned and looked at the well-muscled man next to him, a question formed in Ionathans head. He held up his had to get his attention and said "My good man forgive me for intruding but I was just wondering if you have any supplies?" Ionathan reached into his pocket and found a few coins and showed them in his hand "if money is a problem I can easily be of assistance"

Just a heads up ladies and gents, coursework been a bit hard on me but I should be able to post tomorrow, sorry for the delay
<Snipped quote by The Fated Fallen>

That would require his response. This, and the fact entire greater plot has ground to a complete standstill, in turn forebodes nothing good.

I was going to post after Icepezz but I can post if you guys want my too.

Ionathan could not believe his eyes, he hadn’t seen a musket since the war and Ionathan remembered their on the battlefield well.

They had just broken through the centre of the rival force when the 35th were met with a pike wall, with 3 ranks of pikes to get through Ionathan’s advance halted, but just then General Vance Stubbs sent musketeers to the front who relayed orders from Stubbs to charge when the muskets fired, at this point there was a gap between the opposing armies which made them in perfect range, with the first rank kneeling both ranks let loose a volley that sounded like thunder and the 35th charged, they broke through the already shattered pike wall and sent the pike men to flight. Although not many were killed, the muskets damage to morale as well as breaking formations made Ionathan respect the weapon for if it was not for their rarity Ionathan reckons that whole armies would be issued with muskets.

Ionathan continued to listen to the conversation, he found it odd that they could strike up a convocation so quickly he thought that since gnomes were nomads, that they would be quite anti-social but clearly that was not the case. They came to rest as the lady went off to a nearby market, this made Ionathan think of what he would need when they set of on this righteous quest. The savage that had cut Ionathan cold with a glare was now beside him, how long has he been with us? Ionathan thought, he gave the barbarian a respectful nod and notice a guard patrolling the market and called him over.

"Ionathan! Where have you been? The docks are getting worse by the day!" Richard was a good guardsmen but a bit slow when keeping up with current events "Good morning Richard I'm afraid that I'll need you to go to the barracks for me and requisition a Sarcina from the quartermaster, tell him it’s for my assignment and he'll understand".

When Richard walked off Ionathan turned to the savage and said "My good man, I beg your pardon if I interrupted your thoughts but I know nothing of this group, could you care to give me some information about these misfits?"
