Of course our first fight involved flying enemies, and a majority if our fighters run melee. . . Would it end badly if James blasted his way up into the air to knock an Eagle down? Cause I think that's what I'm gonna have him do.
In the creation of your Aeon, some of you selected two colours, whilst others selected one. This not only was the foundation of the divine creature, but also provides concrete subject to your weaknesses and strengths. Each colour derives into elemental bases, fortified by intricacies that further define the Aeon and the SOLDIER'S power. In a way, this can bolster but limit and blind-side the SOLDIER in the method of battle. Training nullifies most of these, but those are controlled, supplied, environments. Once out onto the field, you will begin to see that the attributes and colours you chose might not be so favourable in the end.
My purpose for this was to devise a formula of development and adaptation for the character that also effects them emotionally, psychology, and even psychically. Through the story, more things will unfold and with them, the SOLDIER will undoubtedly become stronger but there is a draw-back to power and ideals.
In the juncture of battle, the damage and power of attacks will be based on a system that is being borrowed from multiple sources and is enough now that I can, somewhat, call it my own.
For starters I need to explain the creatures of Viera.
Some beasts encountered, ones unleashed and utilized in warfare, and such are also bound to the colour system of an Aeon. Their attacks are thus related to it, similar to a Limit Break or an Overdrive. But the powerful attacks unleashed by the creatures are called Phantasms that bear, mostly, a nature of the element they are allied with. Like SOLDIERS, they possess an attribute that is associated with the Colour selected as their base of mutation. Lesser creatures usually possess one colour : one attribute. Greater beasts will possess more than one, and sometimes several attributes.
Each of them hold a health meter that, to keep it simple, will be classified under the classes of SAB ; SEN ; RAV ; MED ; COM. It is possible for a creature to possess more than one class. My explanation for this, they are experiments gone wrong, things not meant to be. Mutated and destroyed by what they've become, and being configured to more than one class doesn't necessarily make them stronger.
Health Meters can be depleted by methods of attacks that strike the opponent.
COM equates to COMMANDER. These are Elite SOLDIERS and thus not available to regular SOLDIERS, even those of First Class. Commander specifies a SOLDIER whom has mastered multiple fields of study and is a decorated SOLDIER within battle, they harness terrible power and greater attacks than any of the other classes. Creatures of this class are to be treated with caution.
SOLDIER meters will also fall under the classes and their Armour choices. [!]
Now the creatures possess attacks too, which is an attribute similar to what SOLDIERS have. Some possess more than one, usually depending on the level of the creature. Phantasms usually result in last-chance attacks or when the creature is cornered.
Creatures possess immunities and weaknesses that relate to the Colours, which hold ally colours and those that naturally oppose it. Colourless does not adhere to these effects, because it is essentially an abomination of the elements and does not follow their govern. As such, Colourless is flexible and eternal but considerably weaker than those allied with elements.
Note: Aeon origins do not bear conflict to the colours, they are above the law of science, and psychics. The colours were merely used to define them, not to bind them.
Environment bonuses exist, and does also apply to the SOLDIER.
White — Plains Blue — Islands Black — Swamps Red — Mountains Green — Forests
Attacks are considerably stronger or defenses bolstered by which the battle will take place. Colourless does not possess a bonus unless back-boned by another colour. * Pure Colourless can borrow or steal bonuses from other elements if in presence of one who can tap into an Environment Bonus.
Here is an example of a creature.
edit. To further understand the classes and how they might effect the creatures, refer to this list, credited to Hellis.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- With me so far guys? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So how is damage applied and configured?
I'll be giving your Health Meters within the next plot-post, so don't worry about that.
Best way I can explain battle-posts is with an example. * Please don't be intimidated by all this information, I want you guys to enjoy writing battle scenes, this is mostly just for me to formulate. It seems a little daunting, but it's actually pretty simple.
i.e. Evangeline vs. Vorundrl Warg. 1000/1000 : 500/500. Battle Environment - PLAINS.
*Evangeline gains an Environment Bonus because of her Aeon's origin colour of WHITE.
The Vorundrl Warg attacks first with THE DEVILS MARK, biting down onto Evangeline. DEVILS MARK is the ABILITY/ATTRIBUTE of the Warg and thus is elemental based. *Colours share weaknesses, but Evangeline is also protected under BLACK, but also her EB bolsters her defense, so in the end, the damage is less than regular, rather than being double or such. See how colours can save you or damn you? Colourless do not gain these, a pure colourless would suffer regular damage without any chance of weaknesses or immunity. She strikes back with UMBRA, dealing a physical attack that lashes across the body of the Warg. It is not elemental based, so it deals basic damage.
Could she have dodged? Yes, SAB has high evasive, but the attack connects to serve the example.
So, we have 950/1000 : 400/500.
Now, if she had dodged DEVILS MARK and instead used her own ABILITY/ATTRIBUTE, her orbs would have dealt WHITE-colour damage and would've been bolstered by her EB, with weaknesses being applied, it would've dealt double damage.
Keep in mind, for every attack and action that the SOLIDER and Enemy perform, it is met with an action and attack just the same. So if Evangeline attacks with UMBRA in the same bought with her orbs, the Warg would retaliate with an attack to follow up.
Make sense?
Now I want you guys to write your battle posts however you wish, I alone will be calculating damage and the final outcome, none of this information really applies other than the details of the creatures. You don't even have to pay attention to what is written above, other than the creatures, these are really just GM notes. I want you guys to write your prose as you usually would!
I'm sure there will be questions and concerns. I'm open to them all.
It's back on page 17. I tried to quote it, but my computer wigged out on me.
So, can someone explain this battle system to me? I caught up on the IC--and you guys are so good that now I'm sure my writing will be stand out like a sore thumb--and I just read Rockette's new post. While excellent, with the inclusion of HP I just saw in this thread, something tells me this is not your typical RP battle system. I don't want to post before understanding just so I don't waste time with something improper that needs a massive edit.
There is a thread on it, where she explained it.. I'll find it. But this is our first battle, so yeah.. I'd explain it if I could, but -untested-. I imagine there will be edits... seems unavoidable.
