Amazing job on the back story btw
Ling aimlessly allowed the fire to wander between his fingers as he spoke "Yes I am aware of our origins, though to be honest my father didn't like the subject much. But, considering the circumstances I suppose I can share with you what he did divulge"

With a snap of his fingers he extinguished the flame, as well as the fires burning around "We, the demons of Xi'an, were once just a humble tribe in hell. The clan of fire demons specifically. When the great schism began we sided with the Totudage, as did the other elemental demons. But we demons of nature always saw ourselves as different from other demons, so we never really integrated. After the war was resolved, and the enemy deposed, the alliance of continence began to falter. Old rivalries came back to the surface and threatened to boil over. This was when the elemental demons, such as me, fractured off and returned home."

Ling paused to see if his guest was following before continuing "Years after returning to our homelands the humans of Xi'an, having found an ancient spell to summon demons, begged the protection of the elemental demons from invaders. Unfortunately, the spell was so old that it dated back to when we had all been a single tribe, before we split up by element. We fire demons felt we were bound to follow the request, while others felt it was void. To shorten a long story we fought a civil war and our leader won and took the throne of all the four tribes, and then we came to Xi'an to fulfil our oath. This is also why fire demons are the government of Xi'an, as emperor I am the leader of all four clans."
"Indeed, you speak the truth" Ling said in his calm controlled voice "I came to apologise for last night. I shouldn't have punished him in front of you, it was improper of me."

With a flicker in his eye Ling summoned a small fire between his fingers "I must admit that I am intrigued by his choice to make you a fire tribe member. I would have bet he'd make you an earth tribe instead."
Time Jump: One Day
---------

"It really is a good place to relax" Ling said, entering the fire garden "nothing is quite as comforting as being surrounded by fire. Tell me, what brings you to my garden friend?"

How do y'all feel about time jumping to the next day?
The Captain silently reminded herself of her military baring, and took a deep breath. Out of the corner of her eye she spotted movement, one of her fellow officers was checking up with his men after the event.

He was a domineering earth demon, built like the mountains that surrounded the kingdom. Captain Tzo, for that was his name, was also a personal friend. Struck by inspiration she decided to use him to bail her out of this mess.

"Yes your majesty, I do have some free time" she said with forced patience "and my husband over there likes to spend our off days together so I'm afraid I have obligations"

She made a mental note to brief Tzo on her lie as soon as she could. Although lieing was frowned upon, and against regulations for a guard, she knew he'd back her up. And importantly she had earned a little favor from Emperor Ling, which would hopefully would allow her to slide under the radar.
The Captain visibly bit her tongue before replying "I have dedicated my life to his majesty, so yes your majesty"

Silently though she was wondering if it was possible to drown a skeleton, but she knew better than to try.
Ling's face showed no expression as he read the note, setting it ablaze when he finished. Something was fishy, but he was intrigued.

"Tomorrow at noon could you have him dropped off at my chambers? His writing is useless but I love a good challenge" he said politely, before dismissing himself to accept loyalty from the still long line.
Ling ordered a guard to bring some pen and paper before replying passively "I have no objections your majesty. You are a guest in my home."
"I will take your advice on that," spoke Turak, then pointed to the other skeleton in robes. "This is the necromancer I told you about. His name is/was Morluun the First."

"Data, maja, datara," gurgled Morluun, seeing to not speak much about the common tongue. He leaned on a wooden staff, with a large book on his hip.

"Yeah, he doesn't speak much - when he was ressurected. Although, maybe you would be able to understand him. We have tried for three centuries and he has continued, that gibber."

"Is it the same when he tries to write?" The Emperor asked, eyeing the being with interest. If they could crack this code it would be revolutionary for his human subjects.
