Dark new world (a post-apocalyptic Pokémon story)

Khelfin heard people approaching and immediatly put his guard up in case they would be hostile. As soon as he recognized the famimiar faces, he relaxed. It were all three of them! "About damn time!" he shouted with a clearly relieved tone.

While Maya appeared to be ready to catch herself a Magnemite, he noticed how Aro's Honedge had evolved into Doublade. "Cool. It seems Porygon isnt the only one who has evolved." he said while pointing at Porygon2. Behind it were Grimer and Duskull playing. "Oh and thats our newest member Duskull."

While still rooting for Maya to catch the Magnemite, Khelfin also noticed Sabrina carrying an egg. Sabrina also looked different somehow. Like, less confused than earlier? He told her he decoded her encrypted message. "Is it true? Are you and the people from Goldenrod Radio the masterminds behind this.. Amy Initiative?"

As he listened to Sabrina explaining their motivations and how they had to flee Goldenrod, Khelfin formed a firm fist in anger. "I guess there is no way back. You guys were all right, we have to stop Cooper and it will be up to us. Sabrina, where did Meredith and the others flee to? I hope the new hide-out is not in Unova because that is where Cooper is based, alongside two of his strongest gym leaders."

Khelfin relaxed his fist when he got distracted by something in his pocket. He took it out and noticed it was a fossil. "Oh, right, I found this when I was pretending to be a fossil hunter. Anyone want it? I don't feel like I deserve it. And to be honest, I have no idea where to ressurect it anyway, now that the Genesect HQ is off-limit."

He looked at Aro and Maya and relalized they both had a fossil pokemon already. "Sabrina, why don't you take it? You only have Dhelmise and an unhatched egg. Who knows, you might be able to ressurect it somehow."

"Yes, indeed. You seriously haven't heard about the Rotom feature?" Marlon asked Cedric. As he noticed Cedric and Marilyn talking about their home regions, he used the moment to have an important conversation with Magnezone. "Hey buddy, there is something we have to talk about."

"You remember when we discussed the day would come for us to part ways? As much as it saddens me, I think that day is closing in. Look buddy, I just got off the phone with mom and to be honest, I think her plans to take over from dad are going terrible. If we don't do something, she will defend the gym with only her baby Pichu. You need to go there soon and defend the Surge name."

Magnezone hovered closer to Marlon and despite having a metal body, it rubbed its body against Marlon's hand. They talked about it before and Magnezone agreed with Marlon's view.

"However, let's wait until we get to Professor Magnolia. I shouldn't walk through this region without a pokemon. And it gives us a chance to spend a little bit more time together."

As they walked back to the others, Marlon overheard that Cedric hails from Sinnoh and that Marilyn came here from Unova (despite being born in Kalos). "I come from Vermilion in Kanto." he said. Marlon didn't mention that his last name is Surge because he wasn't exactly proud of his father.

You may known me if this isn't your first year at the Academy because I have reached my final year as a student, just one more to go. As beautiful as these islands are, after graduating I will probably return to Johto and save our family bussiness before my brother ruins it and gives our mother a heart attack.

As my teachers will confirm, I am an excellent student. If you hear anything different, it are merely weak attempts to discredit my name.

Something started ringing from Marlon's pocket. He took out his Rotom Phone and raised an eyebrow. "Mom is calling." Rotom-phone stated.

Marlon accepted the call and immediatly expressed his irritation. "Mother, please, I have barely set foot in Galar and you are already calling me. It's suffocating me. Don't make me block you."

Ofcourse he would never actually do that and his mom knew that. Instead of commenting on his rant, she decided to push her lessage through. "I thought you would like to know my egg hatched. I am now the happy owner of an amazing Pichu. Ofcourse it still needs to.."

Marlon interrupted her. "Mom! I am happy for you but I can't really be bothered to lose precious time talking about a Pichu. You are embarassing me in front of these people I just met."

Marlon stepped away from the group so they could no longer hear him. "Look, you know I love you." he whispered in the phone. "But you can not keep calling me all the time like you did in the previous regions that I visited."

When the conversation was over, he returned to the group in order to find Sonia. "Did you guys upgrade your phone with a Rotom yet? I read that it is custome in Galar."

Is there any way I can play a character whose pokemon dislike battles? I haven't played such a character in a while and I'm eager to do so.

The old dojo in Saffron seemed just as abandoned as the rest of the planet. Khelfin had hoped to see at least a lonely Hitmonlee or something but it was extremely quiet. Day turned into evening and it started to worry him that no oneh had come. No Sabrina, no Aro, no Maya, no Meredith.

With some gathered resources he made himself a campfire as the nightfall was rather chilly. To escape the silence, he let out his pokemon so they got to know each othet a bit better.

"Porygon, Grimer, why don't you two give Duskull a warm welcome."

Khelfin realized the irony in his words. None of them could be described as warm.

The three pokemon did play around with each other a bit but that was mostly out of curiosity. When Duskull was chasing Grimer in a game of tag, Khelfin called for Porygon. Porygon curiously floated towards his trainer, while the others continued their game.

"There is something I was meaning to talk about with you."

Khelfin showed a box-shaped object to Porygon.

"I have been carrying around this up-grade item. If applied to your systems, you will evolve. For a long time I thought I was only going to borrow you from Cooper so I wasn't considering an evolution, but I feel like keeping you and that changes everything. Unless.. you prefer to return to Cooper?"

Porygon buzzed and it was unclear what he thought about this. It sure was hard to read a Porygon.

"I will let you make the decision. If you want to stay with me, please connect with this up-grade. If you wish to return to Cooper, you can leave whenever you want."

Porygon buzzed again and looked a tad confused. It started to circle around itself, seemingly conflicted about something, and started to float away from Khelfin. Khelfin bit his teeth in disappointment as he figured Porygon was returning to Cooper. However, he was proven wrong as Porygon quickly turned around and charged into the up-grade, evolving himself into Porygon2.

"Well, let's head to Professor Magnolia then." Marlon suggested.

Hop was already making his leave but turned around one last time and said: "Oh, the Professor's granddaughter, Sonia, is in Wedgehurst at the moment. She can take you to the lab. You can't miss her, she has peach-colored hair."

Galar (Sword & Shield)

Hop's Wooloo was returned safely and Marlon congratulated Magnezone, Glaceon and Lucario for their skills. When Lucario's trainer mentioned Prof Magnolia, Marlon looked up and said "That is where I am going too."

He showed them Oleana's letter saying that Chairman Rose wants Marlon to participate in the Galar League.

"Chairman Rose? That is the one who sponsored my brother Leon."

GOLDENROD RADIO BROADCAST

"Dear listeners, we apologize for the lack of broadcasts lately. We had a huge scoop and apparantly they tried to silence us by force. Because of this, we had to flee our station at Goldenrod and go into hiding at a location we can not share. More on the scoop later, we need to confirm our sources first. In the meanwhile, we can tell you that more pokemon have changed their typings. As you heard from us earlier, Snorlax are now the rock type. However, we have data on other pokemon too. Relicanth has been analyzed as the water-psychic type, Staryu is registered as water-fairy type and several pokemon that used to be ghost-grass are now ghost-poison: Phantump, Dhelmise and Decidueye. But that is not all. The laboratory at Genesect Corp HQ, known for their fossil hunters and the succesful ressurecting fossil pokemon, have also spotted changes in pokemon types for two of their species: Kabuto has been changed to the steel type and Lileep has been changed to rock-poison.
