"They carried the sky. The whole atmosphere, they carried it, the humidity, the monsoons, the stink of fungus and decay, all of it, they carried gravity."

I mean like... you can be if you want, but that sounds like it would be a bit unfortunate. The color of your chess piece doesn't separate you into different teams, its merely a name ^^
Kanalie watched in surprise as she caught on to the fact that he had been counting her questions from the beginning, the kind of surprise that quickly morphs itself into miserable embarrassment. Still, she forced herself away from such an emotional response and instead made sure she listened closely to his answers. And apparently his scolding as well. When he chose to explain the rules of the game to her, her face grew a touch hotter and she glanced away from his eyes, trying not to pout.

She had simply been trying to avoid wasting his time like a good little mage. This man really enjoyed trampling all over her careful set of rules, throwing them out the damn window. Though, admittedly, she was rather glad about the lemons. It had been a great disappointment discovering the bliss of lemon bars only to simultaneously discover their outlaw within her home. She wasn't even allowed to eat outside with home unless she showered aggressively before returning, the smell apparently clinging to her.

As Declan described his home life, Kanalie was quick to compare it to her own, wondering if it was much the same. And if it was the same, how in the gods's names had he ended up so loose in his terms.

She was pulled away from her internal ravings for just a moment as they entered the dorm halls. She took in the opulence and smiled a small bit as it reminded her of her home. Perhaps a bit more in just about about every aspect, but similar enough that its vision brought some relief. The adjustment to this aspect of her new life would be much easier to handle. It was while she was inspecting the pleasant swirling texture on the walls that Declan yanked her forward and she released a shocked breath. A renewed flush overtook her features as the distance between them was suddenly incredibly minimal. Somewhere in her mind, she registered that Alex would be cross with this development. Right as she thought of this and considered pushing him back a ways, he was gone and her respiratory system functioned again. She was about four steps behind when she recovered enough to chase him up the flight of stairs.

They reached the door at the same time and she sighed in relief at having caught up. Only to grow distracted yet again as the door to their apartment opened up, revealing their home. She slipped past him, stepping inside and gazing about her. She spun on her toes slowly to take it all in, arctic blue eyes wide to absorb more of the scene. When she had gone 360 degrees, she saw the eight fingers he held up and bit at her tongue, surprised to find she had actually spouted out that much.

"Right, okay." She sat herself down on a chair at their dining room table, stabilizing herself upon the stained wood. She was quick to remove her shoes and then folded her legs up to her chest, hugging them. She listened carefully and attentively as he offered up each inquiry, knowing she would forget in a second if she drifted. She only realized how much eight questions was when they were directed at herself.

She took a deep breath and began.

"Honestly, I have no preference. My only concern is that I'm a bit of a zombie in the morning and will likely fall flat on my face if there isn't a clear path to the bathroom. Which actually leads into your next question, yay. I prefer to shower in the morning since it wakes me up, but if it's a particularly cold or stressful day I melt into a hot bath. And before you ask, I am not willing to share." She felt silly the moment she voiced her teasing jab, regretting it. Her head ducked down carefully and she stared at her socked toes, wiggling them distractedly. She tried to rush back into her responses, hoping to drown her stupid joke. "For fun, uh... I like to hang out with Alex most of the time, we do a lot of different stuff together. But on my own I watch a lot of baking tutorials online. I also like comedy TV shows and star-gazing."

And long walks in the park and romantic sunsets and a man that makes me feel like a real woman! Kanalie recited in her head, feeling like she was straight out of the lamest dating show on the planet.

At the mention of her family she finally glanced up, fixing him with a reflective stare, before shrugging one of her shoulders. "My family's pretty traditional, I guess. I was born from two mages who live with a vampire family. They're not particularly wealthy or well known and only have my family in their household, but we're all comfortable." She scrunched up her nose a bit, debating the truth of her own words. "I actually have a sibling too! An older brother named Shaun. He goes he as well, but I doubt we'll be seeing much of him."

Remembering his last two questions stopped her dead however as she grasped tightly at her own knees and felt her cheeks ignite yet again. She was only 18, had yet to quite be comfortable with her own bodily functions and probably would never be comfortable enough to discuss them with a stranger. Those words were the perfect recipe for chasing her eyes away yet again and she nervously tapped her fingers against her leggings. "U-um, I-I don't- well, y-you don't have to worry about th-that, I will take full care of it on my own!" And of course, the last one. She tucked her hair back behind her reddened ears and tried t respond without causing more embarrassment for herself (something that this man was making an impossibility). "I am not currently in any romantic relationship and, ah, lets just go with 'yes' for sexuality as well, then."

She kept her gaze focused on the wall now, curling and uncurling her toes. If Declan looked any closer, he could probably see her cheeks steaming.

That is, until her phone started to shout out the main refrain of Hot Blooded by Foreigner and she let out a shriek. She hadn't expected anything like that and with current conversation, she was wound up so tightly, she absolutely could not help it. Groaning, she reached into her pocket to pick it up, knowing already that it was her friend. "Sorry! It's Alexander, I've got to take this." She swiped to accept the call without looking at the vampire across the room, the phone going to her ear. She turned her away from Declan just slightly, answering almost breathlessly "If you're calling me to help clean up a dead body, I don't really think I can deal with that right now, Alex."

@urukhai
Oooh I love it!

But OH! You just reminded me of an aspect I totally forgot about! I'll try and remember to add it to the intro bit, but I'll also say it down here! Once a month, there is a gathering outside of the City of Match by members of all five groups. It occurs within a vast barn that is co-owned by the leader of each of the groups. This is the setting of what is known as The Ring. Basically, a mini-Olympics for the enjoyments and pride of these assassins. Each group is allowed to offer up their champions into the Ring, where they are pitted against the champions of opposing organizations in non-lethal combat.

Basically, it's a time for everyone to peacefully (ish) show off their abilities and their strengths to one another and let their people enjoy a bit of sport. Leaders are not specifically required to attend, and those who do may feel free to avoid announcing themselves to keep their identity a secret.
CADEN SAL - The Saber

The 'lady' in question started at the address of another one of the bodyguards, one that wasn't quite as well known around these parts. Unfortunately, she recognized Nendir with ease, if only for the distaste she harbored for him. There was something in the way that he smiled that made her want to retreat back, like she was seared with fire. It was an essence of emotions she could never explain to anyone, yet she knew she wanted positively no part of. He was unavoidable though, a strong presence in Caden's life and one that was inclined to come visit him when her friend joined them in the kitchens. That did not mean she had to like him, or play nice in any way, especially with his comments that fell short of playful and landed instead in the realm of infuriating.

She absolutely recoiled from his attempt to reassure her. Then she whipped back with the spirit of a cobra.

"Hold your tongue, whoreson." She hissed to him with venom that was unexpected by all. For a breathless second, the steady rhythm of breakfast preparations halted as they studied first Tabeitha and then the man who seemed to have slighted her so. When they found no honest source of ill-will, the flow continued and clatter resumed. The girl was known for her quick-temper after all, and her barbed words. A curse from her was no ecliptic event. "I am three years past being considered a child and I shan't require a knave like you to come to my defense! You'd be more useful pissing in a bucket than wasting our time in here!"

With her final words snapped, she turned herself around and quickly departed for the opposite corner of the kitchen. She kept her shoulders tense and her chin high, but was out of sight, hiding behind a large wall of crates and supplies.

Watching her haughty departure, Caden's brow cocked and then his lips were curling up ever so slightly, continuously amused by her spark. Especially when it was aimed at Nendir. A soft snicker quaked his form and he was bringing a hand up to cover his grin, shaking his head. The mirth brought on at his comrade's expense was hard to restrain, yet he had no motive to do so and instead simply laughed.

"Honestly, I wish I had that girl's creativity to insult. You would be a humbled man, spending all day with someone with a mouth like that." Then, his amusement faded away and instead, he looked rather disapprovingly down at the other man. The bleeding in Caden's hand had stopped and he walked over to snatch the knife from Nendir's grasp, returning it to its proper location on the counter. His tongue clicked as he remembered his comrade's previous words. "Fair warning, I'm in no mood for you to be telling me how to handle a blade. Lest it ends up tangent to your own flesh."

The threat was a familiar one, Caden more often than not responding with violence to your words. He didn't appreciate your gaiety, especially when he had a bias towards typhoons.

MAELLA STONE - The Traveler

A smile had greeted Rajun as he approached Maella's little spot of heaven, bright and cheery as it always was. Her body straightened as he neared and then stepped into the pool as well. She watched his expression closely and then her smile burst into a even wider grin when he showed his pleasure through a subtle nod. Such a response from her friend expressed miles of emotion and she released a happy cheer at his acknowledgement, her hands thrown into the air and her feet kicking childishly.

"See? It is wonderful, is it not? Oh dear bully, we have reached paradise once again! The waters spring forth from the realm of the gods themselves, I swear it!" She laughed in utter delight, her serenity shattered with giddy joy that came from her companion's approval. She might have continued to gush about the divinity of the pool when Rajun reached out to clean away her feet and she released a soft breath of surprise instead.

Then she was sighing and her lips settled back into a more reserved smile. "My friend, you are a gift." She told him. After a moment of simply enjoying his actions, her gaze caught on to the foliage caught in his mane and she was laughing again. She scooted closer to the edge and reached out with the gentleness of a mother, brushing away the leaves from his hair. Concentration overtook the cheer and she fixed his strands back into place.

"We could stay here for a bit, you know. Soak in the wind and the water until my heart grows restless yet again and we depart for our next adventure." Her lips curled and she patted his crown. "T'would give you time to discover the art of sleeping in the trees."

So, right now I kinda just want to wait until I know everyone's decision before I send out the PMs, so I can gather everyone in the same group up into the same PM and I won't have to repeat myself a million times. It would also be a good place to have planning together for the future, so if everyone could just quickly tell me their choices, I can get this part done much faster!
@Sketcher
It is indeed in a modern metropolis!

@bluetommy2
The only real issue I have is that all of the assassin groups are pretty young. Like 3 to 7 years old, so while it is possible that there was previous leader before Liam, neither of them would have been in power all that long. So you don't have to change that, just keep it in mind! The rest I'll PM you about when I get a chance later.

Same for you, @Keksalot. Familia is pretty young, but everything else seems good!

The reason for keeping the different groups so infantile is because the battle against crime is still relatively fresh and you're still attempting to gain the trust (or not) of the people within your district.
@Arkaquiavel
of course! Head on over to the ooc up above!
@Rune_Alchemist
Agh, I'm such an ass, I'm so sorry.
@Kronshi@FantasyChic@Keksalot@NerdyFox@Sketcher (Hope I didn't miss anyone DX)
I've made an OOC! You can find it here http://www.roleplayerguild.com/topics/159042-a-city-on-fire/ooc#post-4149131!
I'm too tired to be able to tell if the start is any good, so be sure to yell at me if its awful tomorrow, it's almost 4am and I wanna go to bed.
Oh, also, I reserved the spots for those who said they were thinking about being leader, if that's not the case anymore or if I missed ya, please yell at me for that as well. I'm really not fully functioning right now haha, but I wasn't sure if I'd have time to do this tomorrow, so wanted to do it now!
