Currently looking for people for The Continental - Hoping we can get some traction going.

Bio

I'm no stranger to writing and roleplays, having written in quite a few over the years. I try to put a lot of thought into my characters, and even more into the projects that I take on, and I hold myself to a pretty high standard. For me, the story is king, not my characters, and I write with that in mind. Inter-connectivity and relationships between the different characters in a roleplay are what make the writing interesting, and that means that writers need to avoid selfishly making their characters the constant center of attention. As such, I try to write by a very specific maxim: Write for the story, not for your glory. If you've got an RP that you think I might be able to add to, please feel free to shoot me a message. Glad to be here!

Alright! That really came together rather quickly. With four characters, I think we can actually get something started. The scenario that I've been working on is as follows, and please keep in mind that I'd rather this be more collaborative than simply me telling you what's going on, because it's more fun if everyone's in on the creation process:

The Continental, which has stood for decades as a haven for those of The Code, is going to come under attack. A syndicate, led by a rather passionate individual, has decided that Management must be removed, and new order must be established.

Some characters may be fully in favor of being "under new management," while others are likely to be loyal to those who have kept them protected for years. The attacks may start as minor assassinations, or evidence of The Continental's one rule being broken. (I was thinking starting an assassin story with an assassination would be appropriate.)

This all will not be clearly laid-out for everyone immediately (there's no big "we're under attack" alarm in The Continental), so the beginning of these attacks should provide plenty of opportunity for betrayals, questioned loyalties, new allies, new enemies, and all the fun stuff that makes for good roleplay-ness.

As well, most of the assassins in this world aren't exactly panicky, but instead seem to consider much of their work as simply "their job." The questions usually go "Hey, are you working again?" "Nah, I'm just taking care of some stuff."

Panic isn't really in their repertoire most of the time, so it'd be interesting to see what they start to do when their usual status quo is actively threatened.

Anyway, I figured that we'll kind of take it from there and see how things start to play out.

What do you guys think of that?
Stair - Awesome. Hopefully we'll get up and running soon.

DJ - That's what I assume. Of course, there's always the "new guy" who doesn't have a reputation, which is perfectly fine, but anyone of any note is likely to be known within the Continental "community."

Also, random question, did you take your username from SSX or Paradise City?
Apologies - This is still an active idea, but with the lack of movement on the RP thread despite the abundant interest here, I had assumed no one was really all that interested.

We are still looking for people, so if you're interested in joining, please take the time to write up a character sheet, found here.
Hey guys, I'm still lurking around. (Had some projects at work that took some time, and this kind of drifted out of my mind.)

I'd love to start it up, but there was literally ZERO response for something like a week straight, and so I kind of figured no one was interested. (I mean, when we're looking for people to post regularly, and when only Stairweller took the time to put up a profile, I didn't think anyone else was going to post.)

Instead of me posting up a character on this, I had been planning to write mostly in an "NPC" kind of role, writing as different characters to keep things moving, yet keep things together. As such, I'd had some ideas of where I wanted things to start out, but again, because of the no real response, I let things wane.

If people are still interested in doing this, and we can get some traction moving, I would be more than happy to handle things.
Hmm... It seems like initial interest has waned. Are there still people interested in doing this? Or should I just shelve the idea?
Definitely interested, though I'm somewhat hard pressed to see how character interaction would work. The way I see it, everyone's day to day lives would be, more or less, separate, only meeting up for brief moments either in The Continental itself or if they happen to be assigned to the same operation, something that I'm assuming is somewhat rare.
What I had planned initially was a crime syndicate who was looking to take down The Management. They hire mercenaries, who attempted infiltration at first, but proved to be far too easily sniffed out. Now they've begun to reach out to the assassins themselves. Some will have enough greed to win them over for a price, while others are loyal to The Continental. This lets us break The Continental's rule in a justifiable way, which is what makes the situation work, in my opinion. Such begins the erosion of trust within The Continental, and you've got your two sides and plenty of interaction opportunities. Seemed ripe for some excellent "us vs them" opportunities with strong stakes, and betrayals, double agents (for both sides), and other fun things which should create some useful roleplay situations.
This post will be kept up to date with important information, such as rules and important narrative references. And remember, this is a group project, not just a "GM" and "Players" kind of deal. Please feel free to voice your opinions and suggestions and we'll add things in here.

I've added a link in the original post to the character sheet. If you're interested in joining The Continental, please read through, fill out, and post a character sheet in that section. Look forward to seeing what you guys come up with!

The following form should be completed in-character, as if it were being written by the character him/herself. This should let other writers get to know who your character is, and some hooks for other writers to work with in bringing the story to life.

Please be as detailed as you would like - The more detailed that your character is, the more personal, character-based things that we can incorporate into the story.

There is always business to be done, and as long as there's business, there must needs be The Continental. Forty floors of exclusivity, the building has catered to a specific clientele for over one-hundred years, with one very specific rule: No business may be conducted on Continental premises. While several have tried to bend or even break the rules as the decades have gone by, Management is zealously committed to this standard. Few have ever defied this maxim without incurring serious penalties, and those that do have their membership permanently revoked. Please heed our one rule, and as always, we hope you enjoy your stay. Welcome to the Continental.
