I think that was more because that they just came straight outta left field and can crash into Killer repeatedly with Counter in the grave and burn the enemy to death post-Scout searches. Magazine gave the deck a way to drop Scattershot in the grave and recycle it with Firestorm Guards, so I think that's their big power play.
That left field statement came to mind not long after I posted my previous post since people at those type of tournaments would only ever expect to see the accepted meta decks of the time. Anyway, after some testing and discussion with UE, we've decided that Volcanics are in the clear :). Fun deck by the way, that Scattershot play is hilarious to use! Oh, and speaking of UE, he told me that he would be happy to offer his abilities as another Co-GM for the pseudo-reboot. He's a good candidate for that I think, and would be able to take over when I or whoever Dread appoints as the new, first Co-GM isn't around.
Yeah, sounds about right. Would Volcanics post-magazine be okay? Krein? Edit: Scar ain't leaving, mb.
I'm currently looking into and about to playtest the deck. I've only faced them once before but I've read that they went undefeated at a YCS and apparently have their own themed Raigeki and ways to recycle 1500 damage. Let me get back to you on this.
Hey guys, still here. Even though I said I'd quit, I'm not exactly the type to give up on an rp that easily. Still, this rp is still on the verge on death, and I will leave for good if it comes to that. A pseudo restart sounds great, and I may even join back if things run a bit more smoothly. Might also change Alexander's deck, cuz I'm not feeling all that great for the Six Sam anymore.
Great to hear, man, I was hoping you'd stick around to see if things will pick back up! By the looks of it, a pseudo restart is where we're headed. Would greatly reduce the clutter and coherence issues we have at the moment, and would re-open CS and deck evaluations for everyone currently involved. We'll likely need a new thread for that though, but that shouldn't be too much of an issue.
Yeah uh... I'm pretty sure most if not all of us can agree that Nekroz aren't exactly decently strong. There are other decks that fit that description that, while powerful, can't just generate advantage like nobody's business and easily find solutions to problems. Even if you didn't intend to use Fubuki in many or any duels, I doubt giving her a meta deck was the best call. Other than making the already mentioned power creep (and opening up opportunity for others to do the same), it's not going to sit well with anyone that there's a "police" character not controlled by the GM that's extremely hard to beat and can just stomp on everyone else. As for Joseph... I don't think that "OCG/TCG" existed in the anime, so I'm curious as to why you even brought that into the RP :/. At least in my point of view, I don't think that something like that will be too difficult to overlook or change. Heck, once you change his deck you can just make something up by saying he had certain cards that until just recently, "weren't released from the OCG" yet if you still want to go with that. I'll agree with you on that tag dueling thing, it really has made the RP slow down to the point where it'll die pretty soon if it isn't jump started. Perhaps a pseudo reset is necessary. We don't need to start from the beginning of course, we can just restart right when the Khan makes his morning announcement to the duelists. Other than changing the whole tag duels to regular duels, it'll give you more ease in remaking your characters and whatnot. If we do that I can still manage to add in Ava and Lyall's duel against each other so that with it, things will go off with a bang.
I opt to use 3 Tenkis in my build since the monster I'd rather see in hand is Kaust. Pollux is certainly nice to have in hand early on, but if you don't draw into him you should at least have another chance of being able to draw into Algiedi. She is somewhat like Pollux, but special summons a level 4 Constellar from the hand when normal'd. In a case where you don't have either, there's still other cards such as Siat and Cyber Dragon to pair up with Kaust or another Constellar. Back to Tenki, it can also be used to search Fire Fist Bear. He can make use of any Tenki already on the field and can search out a Tenki himself if you don't already have another. Well, doesn't seem like I can help you much with your character's then. The only thing I can try and say for the Joseph/Kenta issue is simply to pretend other things were done and said, but.... I dunno. Also, just a question, but what kind of things did you have in mind for your characters when you made them with their previous decks? Telling that might help in finding you a solution.
Ah, well it wasn't clear to me by your post that that's what you were referring to. I doubt that the RP needs a total reset on that subject, at least not yet. I don't know what exactly you had in mind for your characters, but I think that replacing their current decks with Gishkis and Constellars shouldn't be TOO much of an issue since the two should still follow the same "formula". You know your characters better than I do though, so it's all up to you. I highly recommend giving Constellars a chance though! They're likely my second favorite archetype following Lswarm, and I find them a lot more fun to play with because they're not as linear and autopiloted like Satellars. If you decide to give them a go I'd be happy to help coming up with a decklist.
I just read through the recent set of posts just now and... In retrospect, I do understand the current situation has been mostly brought about by myself and I sincerely apologize for it. I blame most of the drops on myself, and to be honest I feel like I should've put things into perspective a bit better when drafting up my characters. I recently got to see the results of YCS Tacoma and the recent surge of Nekroz there only serves to prove your point further. I'd like to think that salvaging/remaking the RP is possible, but in that case I'd honestly drop the two characters I have going at the moment and switch to some more off-meta decks in hopes that those would be a bit better in this RP. Once again, I sincerely apologize for my actions having caused this incident and hope a resolution will soon come to pass. On that note, though, I am able to rework multiple older archetypes into a more updated version of themselves if they need buffing.
There'll be a pretty big plot hole in the RP if Fubuki and Joseph just spontaneously leave. I'd say you keep them, but change their decks. Of course, that means you'll have to go back and do a lot of editing, but it should be worth it. I currently don't have a suggestion for Fubuki, but I know that for Joseph, Constellars are the way to go :). They're the original Tellars afterall, and are a more balanced Rank 4-5 deck that have access to some cool and powerful monsters. Ptolemy can replace Diamond as the favorite monster too, because I'm pretty sure Diamond IS Ptolemy in a later point within the DT story. EDIT: Wait no, I think I've got one for Fubuki. Gishkis. Still follows the concept of Ritual Summoning, but again, more balanced. From what I've encountered before, they're still capable of pulling off strong plays, and for a new favorite monster.... Maybe Noellia? Or Emilia, but it'll all depend on what you use in the deck. Speaking of Constellars and Gishkis, it'll open up some good interaction between them and Lyall because of the relationship their specific archetypes had within DT.
Well, the Millennium Eye was and is still an important artifact in Yugioh lore, just like the rest of the Millennium Items. In any Yugioh RP, they would likely be a major part of the plot, so having them around as a mere fashion statement doesn't really make much sense or add to a character in the end. Now, seeing as we already have Shadow Realm powers running around, I could help to come up with an idea of how we could implement them into the RP's story, if you'd like at least. On that note, I would also gladly fill in as another Co-GM to help out with this kind of stuff, as well as examining CSes, Decks, post quality, etc. As for the deck issues, I think Option 1 is a given. In pretty much every Yugioh RP I've been in (or started myself elsewhere, for that matter), using meta decks (and by extension, decks built with no other goal in mind than a surefire OTK) wasn't allowed simply because of the power creep and annoyances they create. Sure, they can be great and fun to use irl, but no one really likes being on the other end of it unless they're also packing meta or a deck made to counter it specifically. Even if you want to disagree with this point, the statement before it still stands, and as UE has already mentioned, deck/power balance for an RP like this is very important. I wouldn't suggest allowing banned card because then everyone is going to want to use them, and uh... Konami banned those cards for a reason in the first place. I can think of a few ways to bring up the power scale of a few of the old school decks, such as Blue-Eyes considering I have an up to date, legal Blue-Eyes deck that uses the current mechanics of Synchro and XYZ and is absolutely crazy when/if it goes off. We'll need to remake a few decks obviously, within the limits of the banlist, but of course remake them to be a more efficient and powerful version of themselves. Like I said, I know I can do that much for Blue-Eyes, but others I'll have to take a better look at. I think it's clear Option 3 is... pretty unlikely. Nobody likes a staged duel to win simply because a rigged victory isn't satisfying, and nobody for sure likes a rigged loss because they know they had things to counter whatever the other guy was throwing.
Well having decks at different power levels seems like it would only be a problem if we were to using something like DN rather than RPing the fight. If we RP out our fights it might be a little implausible but i think we could have our decks be fairly balanced. RPing a fight essentially makes it so that any deck can beat any deck. Just my thoughts on the matter of deck balance
That's kind of what put Scarifar and Unending off though. Sure we can just orchestrate our duels to make it seem fair, but in the end that isn't exactly a satisfying experience since you only won (or heck, lost) because the duel was rigged.
Damn, two drops within the same time frame, this is actually pretty disappointing to see :(. I was hoping to RP with you again UE, but if you really want to go, I won't stop you (your reasons can't be argued against afterall). And Scarifar, if it makes any difference I was going to go and interact with your character(s) once UE and I got our characters' duels out of the way... I do have to say though, I can definitely see where Unending is coming from. With all due respect, I do think that some of the characters and posts need a bit more work and substance, especially considering this is the Casual section. And on the subject of the decks.... yeah, I know I've touched on this subject before, but considering we're already seeing two members drop out because of this I feel it's time to address it again and with my new thoughts since I last discussed it. There REALLY does need to be a better balance with everyone's decks. I'm not talking about going in and saying, "Hey, this card's pretty broken, take it out," I'm talking about going in and bringing everyone's decks UP or DOWN to the same general power scale. As I said before, on one end we have a very old school Blue-Eyes deck, and on the other end we have Nekroz/Satellarknights, decks that are literally current contenders in the current meta. It isn't fair or reasonable at all that the power creep apply to this (or any) Yugioh RP, or that certain decks (such as that DD Dynamite OTK) even be allowed to be suggested (because seriously, nobody likes dueling against decks that are solely designed to OTK). I don't mean to pick on anyone that much with this stuff, but we really do need to come to a general consensus on what the power cap should be so that we can avoid stuff like this and keep the RP enjoyable for everyone. UE and I agree that "Tier 2" and lower decks (such as his and mine) are the decks that while strong, are still balanced and reasonable enough to go against. I know that you, Dread, mentioned that orchestrating duels would give everyone a fair chance, but honestly I don't think that anyone's going to be too happy in knowing that the only reason their outclassed decks beat this one guy is because they had to RIG their duel :/... I still want to be part of this RP and definitely want to see it become a fun experience for everyone, but these problems do need to be addressed for that to happen. I have a couple of suggestions on how we can fix these things up, but I would like to hear what everyone else has to say too.
