@Burning Kitty... That's one of the literal two things the gm said not to choose.

Thank you for actually reading the first post. I appreciate that.

I mean my character would be one of the ones experimented on in Vault 109.

Okay, so the only way a character like that would work in this roleplay would be if you didn't use he/she until the discovery team found vault 109. My plan was for them to find it while heading to Fire Island. If you still want to make a vault dweller that's fine, just know you won't be doing basically anything for quite a while.

Here is the link to the OOC. Please post character/character ideas in the OOC before posting them in the Character tab.

In the Winter of 2066, Anchorage was fought over and taken by the Chinese. It was taken back on January 10, 2077, then abandoned almost completely. Those who remained struggled to rebuild their broken society, and the first major faction within Anchorage was born. The loyal band of followers, formed under the care of the Fairview family, was aptly named the Fairview Followers. This band of wanderers thrived in the few months before the Great War, and even after the radioactive dust from the nukes in the southern states cleared, the people of Fairview continued to live happily in their little corner of the world, occupying much of downtown Anchorage and providing people a safe place to rest on their journey, or even make their home.
Alaska remained mostly untouched by the nuclear fallout that ruined the rest of the country, why that is is certainly not a mystery. Anchorage had already been beaten into the ground, and most of the buildings had been reduced to not much more than piles of rubble, so it’s no surprise that China decided not to waste any more of their precious weapons on an already ruined city. Shockwaves from the bombs hit Anchorage, but most people in Alaska are no strangers to earthquakes, though these were, decidedly, a bit higher on the Richter Scale than the normal quakes.
It was in the months to come that the dangers of post-apocalyptia became apparent. Though radiation levels in the very center of Anchorage were moderate, the rest of the city remained relatively safe from rad damage, until the rain began to fall. Throughout the month of November the entire state was submerged in a torrential downpour of black rain, which came up from the south and saturated the soil in radiation, increasing the radiation levels throughout the land.
When the radioactive downpour finally ceased, Anchorage had lost many more citizens, and -save for a select few that were preserved from the rain- those who hadn’t perished were so soaked with radiation that they would be transformed into ghouls over time.
Years after the rain had washed the rubble of the once bright beacon that was Anchorage, a new creature began to make it’s presence known among the townspeople. It crept in the shadows, preying on unsuspecting citizens, both human and ghoul alike. The bodies were never found, but many have ideas on where in the wastes they may have been taken away to. Vault 113, one of two vaults around Anchorage, seemed to be the most popular opinion, though none were brave enough to make the journey and find out. Rumor hinted at the vault being off the west coast of Anchorage, on what used to be Fire Island, back before the war.
The island sure was a fiery one during the battle. The entire landscape could be seen from the mainland and was engulfed in a glowing red haze of smoke with the occasional lick of flame visible amongst the burning timbers. Embers, still hot from the fire, drifted from the island all the way to the mainland, littering the ground in ash, and causing miniature blazes in dry patches on the coast. When the fires faded and the smoke cleared, the only thing that seemed to remain of the island was a blank black landscape, speckled with the skeletons of trees and piles of charred lumber from what used to be cabins used by hunters.
The island seems to be uninhabited now, but it's unknown if creatures still roam there.
Please post your characters here after they have been approved. Thank you!

This roleplay will focus a lot on character relations in addition to action, so character sheets don't need to be nearly as detailed as they usually would be for a typical casual roleplay. For most questions you can get away with using one or two word answers. That being said, you're welcome to put more work into your CS if you feel it is necessary.

Attacks are growing more frequent, and whatever is lurking in the shadows is becoming increasingly careless- leaving mangled bodies behind. They litter the streets and more turn up dead each week. The problem has caused the factions to team up, selecting members to participate in a potentially deadly mission of discovery. It's assumed that whatever the creature is, it originated somewhere on Fire Island. The team's job is to make their way across the Northern Wastes, and then find a way to cross the stretch of water separating the mainland from the island. Finally, they are to search the island for answers and return to their respective factions, hopefully with answers, and a plan to take out the creature.

Glad there is some interest in this. I'll work on getting an OOC up tonight and post a link here when it's up.

I'm interested in my character wearing a blue 109 jumpsuit.

What exactly are you thinking with this? Having a character who just found a jumpsuit or being someone that the group meets during their travels who has been to the vault?

Right now I'm really just looking for input on the plot, and checking to see if there's any interest for this kind of roleplay. Thanks for reading and please comment with questions or comments! -K

Though the invitation to move closer and view the map hung in the air Atari kept her place at the edge of the room, simply relaxing back against the wall into her previous position when the Admiral’s “At ease” rang through the room. The terrain concerned her little, and she had no say in the specifics of the mission. Instead of butting in and questioning things she let the captain take care of it and went back to studying the others, all but tuning out the idle conversation. It was but a buzzing in her ear.

Szabo seemed the most into the conversation, and his apparent additions sparked interest among the other Spartans, causing them to jump in with a few words themselves. Legs and Warren were both listening intently, leaning in towards the group and studying the map. It was likely that at least one of them would recommend a potential drop point to the captain, as each of them had jobs which made them more adept in determining such thing than the rest of the squad. It made no difference to Atari where the drop was, she could do her job almost anywhere. She preferred a higher point, working with all the others, both friend and foe, below her as that made tracking enemies and taking them out the absolute easiest, but it didn't make too much of a difference if she was on the same plane as the others.

Atari was paying just enough attention to hear Legs ask when they were leaving, and it would have been a lie to say the same question hadn't crossed her mind. She decided then that it might actually not be a bad idea to pay some attention to the conversation, and pushed off the wall, taking a small step closer to where the map was.

Another downside to being short is that when tall people gather somewhere it can be near impossible to see over or around them. Such was the case with the group surrounding the map, and Atari rolled her eyes and sat down in a chair instead. She leaned back and folded her arms across her chest, listening, but not making it nearly as obvious as Warren or Legs, both of whom made it blatantly obvious that they were interested in the mission, possibly excited even, which was certainly justifiable. Their first real mission as a squad would be enjoyable to others who liked the idea of working as a team. Atari simply wanted to get out and prove her worth as a Spartan, and she didn't need a team for that, and it was clear she didn't want one.

All throughout their training, years and years at the base, Atari had made very few friends. Her days consisted of training and she didn't often fraternize with others in the program. There were some trainees that she had spoken to a handful of times, but overall she knew no one on a personal level, and wanted to keep it that way. She hadn't always been her cold, stoic self. Before her initiation into the Spartan program she had been a fairly normal little girl, in a fairly normal family. Her older brother and younger sister were her closest friends, and she had a group of kids in the neighborhood that she spent many days with, laughing and playing together. Unfortunately a side effect of the program was that you were forced to grow up very quickly. And for Atari that meant saying goodbye to her fun-loving childish nature. It would only serve to hinder her mission.
@Zi Saw it, thanks Zi. :)

The scene which played out between Legs, Solton, and Szabo was almost laughable, but Atari held her tongue, knowing that any peep she made would likely be held against her. Still, she smirked as the captain ripped into both boys, which shut them up entirely. Solton had stayed quiet both when Leg took a dig at him, and when Szabo reprimanded him, and she wasn't sure she could keep her composure if similar words came her way.

She drew her eyes across the room while Szabo went from taking care of the outburst to addressing the brute; studying everyone while she tapped her fingertips against her arm. It was already apparent that this team was going to have serious issues if they couldn't get their act together. Sure in the field they would likely be able to take care of business without too much problem, but back on base would be another story. Between Solton's salty attitude, Cynthia's overly emotional wussiness, Leg's cocky outbursts, and her overwhelming desire to stay as far away as possible from the rest of the squad, there wasn't a doubt in her mind this was a disaster just waiting to happen.

When Solton got up from his chair in the center of the room and moved to the wall she smirked. His eyes were blazing and she guessed that behind his mask silence he was absolutely furious. It was impressive to her that he could maintain his composure, as the same could rarely be said about herself, which was one of the reasons she hated working with other people. She tried to catch his gaze from across the room but was interrupted when she heard Szabo call out, "Officer on deck!"

Though she was nearly small enough to be ignored entirely when the officer walked into the room, she turned and stood at attention. Her gray eyes were locked on the door, and she stood in tall -or rather as tall as someone her height could- awaiting instructions from the superior entity entering the debriefing room.
