Personality: Bio:1100 BCE - End of First Life, SacrificedSounds had always governed Korrina's world. In her first life she was born blind but luckily she was also born to a prosperous merchant family. While many other blind people would scratch out meager lives as beggars if they lived at all Korrina had more opportunities. Determined that she would not be a burden on the household Korrina's mother forced her to learn as many skills as her lack of sight would allow her. These ranged from sewing, to crafting and even a brief attempt at painting but the one that took hold was music.
She had a wonderful voice which was honed under the finest teachers in the ancient world. Though many of the instrument she learned to play in that life no longer exist the love of music and sound would be a constant companion in her future lives. Korrina had the misfortune in her teenage years to play for a group of her parents wealthy partners and business associates. An older woman in this group took a liking to her and proposed to her parents that Korrina be apprenticed with her for a brief time where her talent could be nurtured by masters from overseas. Delighted and a little relieved at this prospect, her parents agreed.
This woman was one of the sorceresses of Melos and she had singled Korrina out for sacrifice. It seemed that each of their sacrifices had a desirable aspect, beauty, grace, stalwartness. Korrina's musical skills had made her a target. She could not see what happened in that cave but she heard enough to know that death was coming for her. Three thousand years later she could still recall the slow
drip drip drip of blood leaking from Alexandros' neck onto the cave floor and the
thud his body made when it hit the stone. The last sensation of her first life was that of choking on her own blood.
In her next life Korrina was blessed with sight. Even before her memories resurfaced she was always oddly grateful for this, seeking out rich environments and bright colors. In this life she again tried her hand at painting with more success. When her memories started to return she didn't let on at first. In the beginning she believed them to be nothing but horrible dreams. As they came in more clearly though the lessons of her first life resurfaced. Lessons she'd learned from being blind, sympathy was a weakness, a limiter. Only the incapable let people feel sorry for them. At times the memories gave her terrible fits but as much as she could, she suppressed them. She sought solitude when she felt an episode coming and made sure that her parents never knew the truth. As more of her memories returned she continued her study of music, learning more and beginning to compose her own pieces. Her second life ended in her mid twenties due to natural disaster.
At heart Korrina has for all of her lives been a student of the arts. Though this didn't always mean music. While many of the six came to view their immortality as a curse Korrina always saw it as a great opportunity. Unlike others who found their calling in war or other such matters which after three thousand years begin to appear simplistic and repetitive, Korrina's passion was art which was renewed in form, desire and emotion with each new generation and culture. She saw herself not as an architect of change or improvement in the world but as a chronicler of its best and darkest moments. In various lives she did this by immortalizing events in songs, in epics and stories, even in paintings and sculptures.
878 CE - Korrina Encounters the GuardiansDuring the Danish conquering of England, Korrina was living in the only kingdom which remained under Anglo-Saxon rule. This was the Kingdom of Wessex. Korrina served as bard to the army of Alfred the Great, inspiring his troops and playing marching beats to keep the convoys from slowing. Alfred managed to maintain his kingdom of Wessex and push back the Viking incursions, this was with the help of the Guardians under the surface of everything and this was where Korrina realised she was not alone. She met Iason who served under Alfred after the Battle of Ethandun which pushed the Danes out of the area and allowed Alfred to re-established Anglo-Saxon rule over the western half of Mercia.
Korrina was horrified to discover that the group Alexandros had founded had been interfering in human history almost since it's inception, since it had enough influence to make changes. Korrina firmly believed that they were meant to be watchers in the world, not rulers. In her next several lives she began to feel as though the other five thought that their immortality and age old memory gave them some right to decide what was best for everyone else. In the 10th century the guardians were involved in several minor upheavals in England intended to keep Edmund I on the throne which would almost directly result in serious wars started by Louis the IV of France.
Disgusted with this Korrina left the Guardians in 940 leaving information with the other five regarding how they might find her should they want to reconnect in their next lives.
Korrina spent the next two hundred years of her next three lives much as she had her previous lives. She studied the art of each culture that she was born into always making sure to learn the ways of at least one instrument each lifetime. She never settled down with anyone or had children of her own. She spent too much time on the move and her philosophy of merely observing the world but not influencing it included having a family. She did however devote much of her time to the sons, daughters and grandsons and granddaughters of the other five. Though they did not come in contact with one another directly in that stretch of time in each new life she kept the Guardians informed of her new host country and identity though never an exact location, she knew the other five would be able to track her if inclined but she didn't want simply anyone in their shadow organisation to be able to locate her. They in turn kept her informed of their names as best they could. When it was convenient or possible Korrina would go to their funerals and spend time with their families. The five spawned some great names in history and Korrina never passed up the opportunity to observe.
1189 CE - Lytton Blinds Korrina in Order Attack on the GuardiansIn 1180 Korrina was approached by Alexandros. She regarded him warily as they were friends but several generations removed and on the opposite sides of a philosophical schism. However he hadn't come to fight or to bring her back to the other five. He'd come to warn her. One of the Guardians, a man named Jon Lytton had killed Myrrine for spurning his advances and vowed revenge against each of the Six. Alexandros told her that he'd gathered a small but dedicated group of religious fanatics and though he hoped to have them dealt with soon their many lives had taught both of them how quickly fanaticism spreads. He asked her to return to the Guardians current stronghold for her own safety till the problem was dealt with. Korrina thanked him for his concern but told him that she would not be drawn into his war. She told Alexandros that the Guardians were a recipe for disaster and now they were bearing the fruits of their arrogance and their foolishness.
The next seven years were largely unimportant. Korrina lived her life as she always had, that was until she became Lytton's latest target. As one of the Six that had rejected the Guardians and not being warrior herself like Iason, Korrina was among the most vulnerable. By 1187 Lytton had managed to integrate his fanatical movement into the Catholic Church, thus began the hunts. The Church pursued Korrina, its faithful believing she was a demon incarnate and its members loyal to Lytton believing her to be the key to power beyond imagining. After nearly a year of running Korrina finally gave in and sought out the Guardians for protection. Little did she know this was exactly what Lytton was after. He spent the next two years in pursuit of any of the Six who dared to leave the safety of the Guardians protection. He cut off supply routes leaving safe houses vulnerable until the Six (except for the yet to be refound Myrrine) finally met to discuss what to do. Lytton couldn't be allowed to run wild with the Catholic Church at his command any longer. Some said they should do nothing, simply bunker down and let Lytton run out of steam and resources. At this Korrina in a righteous fury pointed out that Lytton was a monster of their own making, he was there responsibility.w
They didn't get a chance to make a plan for Lytton had his own schemes. The Order attacked the Guardians headquarters and in the fight that followed so many were slaughtered. Lytton killed Alexandros personally. In the many lives she had led Korrina had never been a warrior. She'd always been feisty, she'd seen wars up close but she wasn't formally trained and in her attempts to defend herself Lytton's lieutenant Agnes slashed a knife across Korrina's face before she managed to escape leaving Xanthippe to her fate. Korrina for the first time since her original life was blind again.
She found herself rediscovering little things from her first life that she'd forgotten in the over two thousand years that separated her from that time. Little tricks that had helped her function. Though she was now blind Korrina was also furious with how powerless she'd been during the Order attack. From that moment on she was determined not to be the girl crying in the cave, begging for her life. She would be strong, and she would find Lytton and she would kill him. Korrina despite her lack of sight began to train with Iason, taking advantage of his years of experience in every martial art he'd ever been born into. He taught her how to fight despite her lack of eyes, to feel the movement of her enemies, the sounds they make, how their movements changed the air around her. After several months of training Korrina felt that she was ready. She was going to hunt down Jon Lytton and she was going to kill him.
1190 CE - Lytton captures Korrina and makes the first vampires.Unfortunately for Korrina she didn't know about the alchemical experiments that Lytton had performed with access to the body of one of the Six. She didn't know what he'd become after eating Xanthippe's heart. Korrina was vastly out matched by the first of the vampires. The end of that life she remembered thinking just how much it was like the end of her first. How scared she was, now powerless, how her own blood tasted in her mouth.
She spent the next four hundred years on a quest for revenge. What Lytton had done had sparked something within her. Before she had been content to be a watcher in the world. To learn the arts of her culture, their music and their ways and to enjoy herself in all of it. Now she had another purpose. For her the next several lifetimes she didn't pick up an instrument, she devoted herself to learning the ways of warrior as Iason had and using them to destroy Lytton. She held to her philosophy of non interference in the affairs of the world but she regarded Lytton as a special case. If it wasn't for the Six he would have lived and died a mortal man, his immortality was their fault and she'd be damned if she let it continue.
She never managed to kill Lytton or any of the vampires that he created from the hearts of the Six in the years to come. She got close a few times. Once encounter saw Korrina repay Agnes for blinding her, she burned the face of the vampire she'd helped create so badly that even their advanced healing abilities weren't enough to repair the damage.
1666 CE Antonio Stradivari returns music to KorrinaThis vendetta continued in Korrina's life times until the year 1666 CE when she met the instrument maker Antonio Stradivari. She knew his last name. His great grandfather had been an incarnation of Nikomedes. Korrina in another life had been beloved of his grandfather for a brief time. The instrument maker had a passion for his work that Korrina remembered in very few artists even in all her years. It was something not seen often. She stayed in Italy for several years as Antonio's friend. He reminded her of the simple joys in life that her malicious hunt for Lytton had caused her to forget. He reminded her of her love for music as she had never heard a note produced as pure as the ones that came from Stradivari's instruments. Before she left him he gifted to her a violin and a guitar which she treasured and now are in the archives of the Guardians.
It was not just the influence of Stradivari that dissuaded Korrina from her path against Lytton. Those of her next life would convince her that being consumed by hated and driven by revenge would never serve her well. After leaving Stradivari she was captured by Lytton and used the make the fifth of his vampire council. This might had been the end of her return to her senses and the final straw in her losing herself in vengeance.
In her next life, born the year 1674 in Salem Massachusetts she was given the name Mary Warren. Because of the sacrifice that ended her previous life Korrina's memories of previous lives came in fragments, incomplete and out of sequence. Like her first reincarnated life she would have sudden fits which her family for fear of what it meant kept closely hidden. These fits when finally witnessed were taken as a sign by the people of Salem that she was channeling the spirit of the devil. She was put on trial for witchcraft and being alone and fearful, only eighteen and her fragmented memories leaving her lost and confused she confessed to witchcraft and named anyone she thought would be believed by the townsfolk in an effort to save herself. After the trial was put to rest Korrina became ashamed of herself, as more and more of her past lives returned to her it only added to that shame. Knowing that to save one of many lives she'd have she'd sacrificed the singular lives of others eventually drove her to suicide in 1697.
Korrina spent the next three hundred years attempting to atone for her conduct as Mary Warren. She learned medicine and began traveling with various armies in that time. She bandaged the wounds of soldiers and used her music to sooth their spirits as they died. In 1943 CE
she was a member
The Mädchenorchester von Auschwitz ("Girls Orchestra of Auschwitz") who played at the Nazi work camp to raise the spirits (and the productivity) of the Jewish workers.
In her life directly prior to the present one, she was born in Japan. Captured by Lytton at the age of sixteen in 1998 Korrina's heart was used to make the last of his nine fully fledged vampires. Though he knew by this point that he could create lesser immortals with his bite and blood he was also determined that the eight fanatics who'd originally joined him and formed the Order would be immortalized on his level. He started by turning them into lesser vampires and when they captured one of the Six each one saw an increase in their powers.
Due to the alchemical creation of a true vampire from her heart Korrina's next life, just like hers as Mary Warren saw her memories return in scattered smatterings, sometimes incomplete and often incoherent. Born now as Viola Malovie, she had seizures that accompanied the memories that returned to her. During one of these episodes as those involving the attack by the Order on the Guardians she slashed her face with a kitchen knife as Agnes had done to her so long ago. Her parents being home stopped her before she completely blinded herself but Viola now had an ugly scar over one of her eyes which no longer functions. After this Viola told her parents about her belief about being perpetually reincarnated. As expected they took her to a therapist who was little better than a con man. He said she had difficulty dealing with her natural talent in music and seizures and so labeled them as supernatural in some bizarre attempt to justify them. She ended up on many different anti psychotics that further impaired her ability to remember her previous lives. She didn't remember enough about her communication agreements with the other five to contact them for support and she only grew more depressed and desperate as she saw the stress it was putting on her parents, not just emotionally but financially. When she heard them talking about taking out a second mortgage on the house she knew she was doing more harm than good to their lives.
That night she packed what she needed that she could carry, took her concert violin and a guitar and left the house for good. She had a decently made fake driver's license with the name Viola Orsin which she used to get far away. In a large city far from her parents where she could easily fall through the cracks she carved out a meager living busking with her instruments and playing various low profile bars and other venues that would have her. Her music was good enough that talent scouts sometimes approached her but she turned them all away in favour of her small life. She lived in deep denial about her past lives. Some almost token attempts to prove she wasn't crazy had seen her try to find Guardian outposts that had been abandoned or demolished hundreds of years ago. Unlike the other five she had never been close to the organisation and she still didn't remember what she would need to contact her immortal friends. Her fits and memories continued but she tried to forget them, rationalising any new information she received about her past lives and after one to many failures to corroborate the facts her memories gave her wrote everything off as delusions.
Extra: She wears an eye patch over her mangled eye but it's not uncommon when she needs to focus for her to move the patch to her functional eye leaving her effectively blind as she had been in past lives.
Korrina after her second life being blind took an interest in the various disabilities of the world in case she ever found herself born into the life of a deaf or blind person again. She knows several different forms of sign language, reads braille and has other such talents related to functioning with a disability. She carried a white cane strapped to the side of her violin case, partially as a reminder and partially in case posing as completely blind becomes a necessity.
