Synopsis:
A retelling of the story with Hades & his ride Persephone. Hades struggles to give his new wife the love she wants, while battling the urge to claim her. In the meantime, Persephone struggles between her desire for freedom, her duty to her new husband; she wishes to be free, but Zeus has made it clear that the new marriage is binding, & she must stay with Hades in the Underworld.

Persephone awoke to find herself alone in bed. Every morning, or at least what she assumed morning was, she would awake to find her husband Hades disappeared from the other side of their massive bed. Not that it was too terrible for her to endure; Hades wasn't one for much conversation, & even seemed to avoid it. Persephone didn't understand what the God wanted from her even now; why would he forcibly take her to the Underworld if he didn't even like her company?

With a slow, drawn out sigh, Persephone dragged herself from bed & quietly padded to the wardrobe to clothe herself. Outside the palace windows it was dark & silent as usual. The Underworld seemed to always be in the transition of dusk, with pale, violet skies & a cold, quite blanket of nothing for miles. Other than the River Styx that flowed in winding patterns all over the lands, nothing seemed to happen.

"I just want to go home..." Persephone mumbled to herself. She clutched the fabric of her new dress before realizing she was creasing the material & released it. She missed sunshine, flowers, & companionship. If only her husband would talk to her, her days would be less of a struggle. All she could do now was wait for the six months in this hell to be over & return to her mother. & she was only half of a month in.

Sylvia watched her sister-in-law with a bit of a worried expression, feeling like she was responsible for her happiness. Right now, the young woman was content with rebelling by secretly meeting with men & teasing them, but how long would that last? Surely she wouldn't continue such actions after she married. But Sylvia knew better; if Cendres wasn't taken more seriously soon, she would probably head down a very destructive path that might eventually destroy her sense of self.

Forgetting her own problem for a moment, Sylvia approached Cendres as she suggested dinner & gently took the younger woman's hands in her own. Her eyes shone with compassion as she gently squeezed down her fingers, creating somewhat of a vice grip that was uncommon for the delicate Elven woman..

"Miss Cendres, I would like to help you as well." Sylvia said softly, "Aranhil has told me that he wishes to decide your future husband. At the risk of tricking him a little, I want to ensure your happiness by giving you a bit of a choice. Is there any man in the courts that you feel you may love? Please give me a name, any name, & I will see to it that Aranhil takes him serious as a worthy candidate."
Lovely.
I can't wait.

Synopsis:
After much effort & trial, Hades finally earns the love of his wife Persephone, & the two become inseparable. Demeter does not like the change in her daughter, & kills her own daughter to separate the couple. Hades eventually grips with the fact that his wife has been lost, but doesn't lose hope, for he knows that one day, the pool of souls will release his wife back into the world, & he will have her again.

In the year of 1888, the world has been afflicted with an eternal winter as Demeter mourns the loss of her child. Humans have evolved by growing their plants & food in green houses. In addition to the never-ending cold, a serial killer known as Jack the Ripper has been terrifying the public. Kore Jameson, Persephone in a new body, is growing more concerned every day; Jack the Ripper seems to favor her, from the mysterious letters she's been finding in her private green house.

"I don't want to return to my mother," Persephone announced softly into her warm pillow. Laying submerged in their sea of covers & pillows, Persephone curled up against her husband, dreading what was to happen the very next day. Thanks to her mother's frustrating meddling, Persephone would have to leave her home with Hades in the Underworld to help bring fertility back to the earth for a whole six months. While she wanted her mother to be happy, she was happy when she was at Hades' side. It took some time, but he'd wooed her with his surprising gentleness & warmth.

Pouting, Persephone wrapped her arms around her sleeping mate & buried her face into his chest. She hoped he would simply spend time with her today, so when tomorrow came, it would be just a bit easier for Persephone to leave him & their home. She wished sometimes that Demeter would understand that Hades wasn't the poison she believed him to be, but her mother was forever resentful to Hades for "stealing" her child, even when Zeus himself gave permission. Now Persephone was bouncing back & forth between her lover & mother, as though they both had some equal claim to her. What would Persephone ever do if she became heavy with child? Would she have to leave both her baby & husband behind, or would she have to separate them every half year?

It was time for action. Sitting up in bed, Persephone left Hades to sleep quietly & went out to the courtyard where the Underworld's produce was kept. Reaching into the many baskets kept there, Persephone grabbed a pomegranate, much like the one her husband had fed her so long ago, & brought it back inside with her. She crept to her traveling pack & hid it at the bottom, deciding she may need this later. If her mother wouldn't become more agreeable, she would just eat more seeds, therefore forcing Zeus' hand in ordering Persephone to stay in the underworld with Hades' for the rest of their immortal lives. Persephone hoped it wouldn't come to that, but she was already mentally preparing herself.

She also considered telling Hades of her plan, but he would probably stop her & insist that her mother deserved some time, & that they had a duty to preserve spring & summer. Persephone honestly believed Demeter needed to grow up, & needed to start taking care of the seasons herself. When Persephone was in the Underworld, Demeter pitched fits & let the world perish in the cold, like it was somehow their fault she was sad.

Persephone closed her travelling pack & snuck back into bed with a mischievous grin when she realized her fingers & toes had grown ice cold from being out of the comfortable covers. Sliding closer to Hades, she placed her icy cold fingers on his cheeks to wake him & smiled down at his sleeping face.
Andreios knew the young woman all too well. No sooner had she gotten back to her room than Ava decided that she was going to try to escape her fathers estate, even if just for a few hours. She had done this last time as well, only leaving for a couple of hours at a time, that time increasing with each escape into the outside world. The lure of freedom was just too much for her to ignore.

Putting on some boots & a riding outfit, Ava decided she would go for a short ride & then come right back, & no one would be the wiser. She put on her cloak before going outside. Being everywhere was currently covered in snow, she would be able to use her old specialty in water magic to escape. Leaning over the balcony edge, the mage felt an alarming amount of power in her body as she quickly built a set of stairs with the snow & hopped over the edge of the railing. She quickly & quietly made her way down after, her snow stairs crumbling after her feet no longer made contact with them.

Ava felt so proud of herself & her stealthy exit. & to think, just two days ago, making the snow stairs was so hard to do. Just where did this increase of power come from? Oh well, she'd worry on that later. Turning on her heel, Ava was shocked when she ran into something solid, stopping her dead in her tracks from continuing to the stables. What in the world?

"M-master Andreios?"
James' laughter, in response to Andreios' comment, was instantaneous. While he didn't have the satisfaction of beating the slave back into submission for lashing out angrily, the tone of his voice, the iciness in his eyes... it was even better than he hoped for. Ava felt terrible on her end, no longer squirming in embarrassment, but looking down at her plate in disgust with herself. She could hear the annoyance in Andreios' response & assumed her was bothered by the news of her childhood affections. So he really did think little of her; as much as she expected this, it was still saddening.

"I-i'm going to bed," Ava announced, standing from her seat at the dinner table. She had barely touched her food now, but she really wasn't that hungry anymore. Besides, she didn't know if she could take being around Andreios right now, just after she assumed he'd spurned her. She should leave the room to keep her head held high for another day.

"Ava be sure you are ready for a meeting with Lord Whitley tomorrow morning," James ordered his daughter, causing her to stop in her tracks. Whitley was one of those rich men that she didn't want to be tossed with, & unknown to her knowledge, had already been her fiance in the past. While James wanted to torture Andreios, he wasn't stupid. Ava was nearing the age of an old maid, & needed to be married as soon as he could, more or less, sell her off to the highest bidder.

"N-no," Ava replied simply. She tried to keep her voice firm & proud, but she was too devastated & nervous to speak up against her father, & with good reason. No sooner had the words been uttered from her mouth did James stand. He quickly closed in the space between him & his daughter, the young woman letting out a sharp yelp as his palm smacked hard enough to make her face recoil from his hand. He was a bit apprehensive that Andreios would step between them as Ava held her cheek in her hands & staggered backwards, but he wasn't going to tolerate this behavior from Ava. She was already back to the behavior she was exhibiting right before she ran away two years ago.

"You will be ready for Lord Whitley's arrival," James announced once more, leaving no room for discussion in his tone; his word was law, & Ava would follow it, or she would suffer. Ava didn't confirm or deny his comment, but instead left the room as she felt hot tears running down her cheeks. If she was embarrassed before, she was mortified. James paid no mind & went back to his seat. He was eerily calm now as he began to eat his supper again.

"See to it that Ava does not leave this estate tonight," James ordered Andreios, "If she makes it one step outside the threshold, she will not live until morning."

With this chilling statement, James went back to his quiet meal.
Ava swayed in her chair a little at the dinner table, feeling a bit dizzy for some reason. Ever since she'd touched Andreios' strange pendant in the stables, She felt a little... off. She wasn't sick or in pain, it just felt like something wasn't quite right. But what could possibly be wrong? This day was just like any other, except for the arrival of Ava's new bodyguard.

Was there any chance Ava had met Andreios before today? That thought stopped her in her tracks, & to herself, She tried to recall Andreios' face. She just knew it, she had to know him from somewhere. If only she could figure out from where.

"The boy from the south!" Ava suddenly said aloud, gathering the attention of Andreios, her father, & the servants. James almost dropped his soup spoon as he started at Ava in open shock, but quickly recovered & straightened himself out.

"There was a boy that visited when I was little," Ava explained with a rush, "He only stayed with us for a short while, but-"

"Yes Ava, Master Andreios is that boy," James interjected, keeping his voice low, almost dangerously so. Ava naively missed her father's tone & smiled happily, glad she had figured out what was nagging her. Deciding to grind a bit of salt into Andreios' wounds, James smiled & straightened himself out, preparing himself for Andreios' reaction; would he be able to contain his anger?

"Do you remember what you told me when he visited?" James asked aloud, "I think I remember you telling me that you wanted to marry 'that nice boy'. Your excitement was so cute." & it was the truth. In less than a week, Ava had taken a shine to James' new pet project, disgusting him to no end. His daughter wasn't going to be involve with a lowly servant, he would be damned sure of that.

"F-father!"

James continued to smile & watched Ava try to hide her face in embarrassment, horrified that he would out her to Andreios like that. But he wasn't finished, not just yet. Turning, James extended his smile to Andreios, the superior glint in his eyes hard to miss.

"It looks like you're my little girl's first love," he announced, hoping Andreios felt the stab in his chest. This would be yet another thing that would follow the slave around for as long as he lived. Ava hadn't been taken away once, but twice.
