Bio

Call me Laser. I run on NZDT and Wellington coffee.

Actually, that's a lie, I don't run at all if I can help it.

Always keen for new RPs, books, music, recipes, and conversation. I'm occasionally funny and will tell you the same 7 stories over and over - what else do you need from a friend?

Most Recent Posts

I created this RP because I was feeling nostalgic for all the old "Gifted" RPs I used to do on Neopets. As such, this is meant to be a very chill and friendly experience so if you're at all interested, say hi in the OOC or just get started on a character sheet.

Rules

1. Be chill. No fighting OOC, no powerplaying or other rude stuff.
2. No Over-Powered characters. Keep it to one power, or two closely related powers (such as pyrokinesis & being fireproof). No mind control or mind reading, it's always OP.
3. Gifted teenagers should be 14-19 years old when they first develop their powers. As such, try to keep adult themes on the down-low. Reference to abuse, drug use, self-harm etc. is permitted but should be vague. Cussing is fine, but don't abuse it. Absolutely no sexualizing minors, please. It makes me very uncomfortable. Yes, teenagers have sex, but absolutely no explicit details about your character's sex life.
4. The posting standard is "legible". Spelling, grammar, and font should all be reasonable but one-liners are permitted.

Vibe Check

What's a teenager's worst nightmare? Six years ago you might have answered "acne", "flunking", or "getting rejected in front of the entire student body". But today, there's only one answer: becoming a Freak.

For reasons unknown, over the last two years teenagers all across America have started spontaneously developing powers. Sometimes only one will appear, but typically a handful will pop up in the same town at around the same time. These outbreaks have been the subject of a lot of news attention, especially when the powers turn out very destructive - with entire buildings wiped off the map and hundreds dead, special laws have been passed concerning these Freak teenagers.

Now, when potential Freak activity is reported, it doesn't take long before Special Agents from the newly-created Bureau for Special Intervention show up to root out the source of the activity. Freaks will be taken away to special facilities, with only a handful of them ever to be seen again. Though a small minority have decried this as "cruel" or "unconstitutional", most people agree that hormonal teenagers with that kind of power should be locked away in the interest of public safety.

Today, BSI Agents have just shown up at Nemoton High School. After a string of mysterious incidents around town, not everyone is surprised - but everyone is worried.
Hello and welcome!
Kalama Guynn & Rowan Childe

Central Courtyard

It had been all but impossible to focus in class. Kalama was exhausted from several nearly-sleepless nights filled with guilt and longing. The lectue on the Salem Witch Trials could have put her to sleep, if she wasn't so afraid of what dreams may come if she dozed off. She took a deep breath of the crisp autumn air and pulled her puffy jacket a little tighter around herself, trying to decide if she wanted to go back home or grab a coffee.

"Hey Kalama," Rowan greeted her, walking out of the building. She noticed dark smudges beneath his eyes and a certain desperation in his typically-peaceful demeanor.

"Oh hey Rowan," She replied, feeling an odd sensation as he came closer. A magnetic pull, like the one that had been haunting her dreams recently. Was she going crazy? Hopefully it was just sleep deprivation. "I was thinking about getting a coffee at Poor Yorick's and going over my notes. You, uh... you want to start a study sess?"

He hesitated for a moment. All of his instincts had been going haywire lately, ever since he convinced that squirrel to take an almond directly out of his hand last week. The deer incident would have convinced him he was losing his mind, if there hadn't been other students around to witness. Now his instincts were pulling him toward his flatmate, as relentless as the tide. "Sure," He accepted her invite with a strained smile. She didn't look too good either. Maybe the weird energy in the apartment was getting to her too. "Should we invite some of the others? My notes this week ain't the greatest."

"Good idea," Kal answered, glancing around at the students trickling out of the lecture hall. They had all done introductions on the first day of class, but she was struggling to match names to faces. "Hey! If anyone is interested, we're going to be studying at Poor Yorick's," She called out, hoping that there would be some other takers. Being alone with Rowan might mean confronting the weird feeling between them, and she wasn't in any kind of mood for introspection with the shadow of what she'd done to Daria hanging over her head.

I think a 2 week trial of the posting order is an excellent compromise. We can all see how we like it and change things up if needs be.

Posting order is up. First IC post coming soon!
@EurmalEye the primary benefit of a set posting order is that everyone gets an equal amount of posts. For example, if we have 5 players and 50 IC posts, then everyone should have exactly 10 posts. This is better for people who are only able to get online for a few hours in the evening, since they won't get left behind by other players with more free time. The downside is that if 5 players all take an average of 24 hours to post, the RP will only advance by 7 posts a week.

An open posting order means that those with more free time will have more posts. For example, if we have 3 players who are able to post during all daylight hours and 2 players who are only on in the evenings, our first 50 posts might see 12 posts each from players A, B, & C but only 7 posts each from players D and E. The advantage here is that the RP can advance much faster and there's no pressure of other players waiting on you. The downside is that it's easy for some characters to get left behind - it can suck logging on after a long day of work only to find that the conversation your character was right in the middle of has ended before you got to say everything you needed to.
Might do, @Blazion. 5 is my tentative minimum coven size, if we don't get another I'll take a second character. Everyone else is welcome to double up as well :) I'll start the RP tomorrow, and also start working on a second CS.

@sassy1085 thank you for your input. I like this easygoing vibe!
If we do set a posting order, each person's window would be fairly short - I'm initially thinking 24 hours before the next person can post, with an additional 24 hr extension available if needed.
Hey everyone! I've finished the official thread and it's now open for business. Please check out a poll I've posted on the OOC thread! :)
