About me as a player.
When I make a character I consider every aspect of the character—and the context of the universe it's in—from its nature and demeanor, to its ambitions and motivations; and quirks, strengths, and weaknesses. Did I need to say all that? No, not really, but I felt like correctly using 'and' five times in a sentence. The reason I give such consideration to these characters is because I come to RP to for the challenge of being someone other than myself. What I would do in a character's situation does not interest me, and it's not the point. Knowing the character as well as I know myself means I can do what the character would do and really feel the weight of those choices.

About me as an author.
I consider all play-by-post games I play in to be a form of interactive, co-authored stories, where in the characters all play a part; and as a consequence all authors play a part. When I engage in collaborations I try to make my character's goals and motivations as clear as possible to the other authors I'm engaging with, and trust they will respect the game and not meta-game that knowledge (particularly: Using out of character knowledge to make in-character decisions). I've observed that this is the most difficult line for other players to walk and I find myself entering into collabs sparingly with anyone I've witnessed not delivering on a pattern of excellence in this regard.

About me as a person.
I have years of experience in LARP, Table-Top, MUDs & MMOs and more. I've been role-playing longer than the average millennial has been alive, and have played just about every kind of character—in every kind of medium—there is. I've also written a bit of fan-fiction (FiMFiction) and original fiction, as well as served as a serious editor for both. I don't mention my experience to brag. It's just a fact. I'm not being modest either since I don't believe in it. Modesty and Arrogance are two sides of the same coin. Understating one's abilities is just as dishonest as overstating them. Doing either is a sign of insecurity, and a deception perpetrated with the intent to garner respect or sympathy. If I'm starting to sound like a super villain, well, there is a reason why.

Hey all, I just thought I'd check in after getting caught up on the RP. I know I've been gone for a few months, because I last posted right before dead week. Now that I've graduated and taken some time to recover from 6 years of mathematics education I thought I'd try to get back into the RP and make some posts. A little heads up, I'm working on joining the Navy IRL and if that goes through I may get assigned to a ship and be out of contact again. Sorry I've been so... sporadic, but I just wanted to say that I like the RP and am trying to contribute where I can.

Also, I saw we got a new engineer (@AtlasRize) which is nice. I'd be happy to colab anything Engineering if ya'like.
@LegionPothIX discordapp.com/channels/26220093325613..

also… holy shit, sarah's a little bitch in the making. i love it.

I clicked on the link, and discord loaded, but it's not a channel invite so nothing happened.

And, also, yeah, there isn't a group of people in the world with more capacity to be unspeakably cruel than kids. Everything they do is somewhat extreme, from being amazingly adorable, to brutally honest, to unbelievably manipulative. That's what makes playing them so fun. Even I don't know what's going to happen sometimes.

Also, when I said olivias were just *the worst*, well, Sarahs aren't any better lol.

@LegionPothIX Hey, don't worry about. They're NPCs, so I'm not attached. And a permanent invitation to the discord is the title of the OP. ^^

I generally feel the same way when I make NPCs but have encountered some resistance to the idea in the past. Glad you approve.
@Draken I'm a math ed major and so I gotta use it sometime, right?
I'd post more, but I've got a lot of IRL going on right now, and not a lot of IC going on right now.

@Draken Rorq was hanging out with Karen since you mentioned the geologists, so feel free to take her with you when you leave.

@Heat BTW, where the fuck is that amazing gif from?
"Fuck fuck fuck!"

The ordinarily composed Lieutenant was screaming at her equipment as she kicked it into the dirt. Not a woman who wastes words, Lt. Rorq had three reasons for the three fucks she gave and didn't even begin to pack as she desperately tried to get back to the ship. Instead she quickly switched her machines to passive scan mode while having them forward their results through the linking pylons that boosted their comm signal as much as it did. "The ore vein I had my eye on when we were in orbit," she explained the first fuck to all those present, "It moved."

Cobalt, and other ferromagnetic metals, had many applications in computer, engineering, and other technical designs. Since they left orbit, she had geo-tagged a number of worthwhile veins of materials worth mining for the Vitae even if the planet didn't prove stable for long-term colonization. The initial readings, thanks to the planet's interference, seemed to imply that some geological phenomena had mixed a number of metals together through vein melting and intermix. New evidence, however, suggests that was no the case.

"That's not all, that interference field shifted too!" That was the second fuck as she quickly postulated, while manipulating her machinery, that the field is a byproduct of the swarms. For a collective field of planetary scale to affected by microscopic creatures, they must outnumber all the drops of water in the ocean. The implications from electrostatics alone were massive and unnerving. While she couldn't be sure whether or not the nanites were machines, even if they weren't, neuro-electric activity through a cobalt shell would be equally as disruptive as synthetic electrical current. At least, on the macroscopic scale of microscopic entities.

She finished programming her machines to automate and relay the scans for as long as they were in range, or, for as long as they remained operational whichever was longer. The explanation of the third fuck came as she turned to the biologist who had been hovering over her minutes before. "The vector field has ordinality, direction, and acceleration." The statement spoke for itself, as neither of which are naturally occurring phenomena among non-intelligent life. While she couldn't even begin to guess at the type of intelligence, be it rudimentary primal intelligence, or highly sophisticated advanced intelligence, she knew one thing. It was time to go. She frantically locked back from the biologist to the military escort as she snugly secured her pack to her back.

"We need to get to the ship before they do."

@Phoenix Maybe on the next one. I didn't realize you had changed your response (or at least, I only remember reading the next-to-last line of the current one) so I just went went ahead and did it like any other NPC. I know a few Olivias IRL and they were always just the *the worst* so that's what I went with for this one. I made Sarah as much of a dick (if not more so) as I tried to make Olivia out to be. Ezma is the only good person in this post.

I don't have any discord info for this group, so if you could point that out we could better coordinate in the future.

Slateport City
Beautifly is in the Eye of the Beholder

After leaving the Pokemon Fan's Slateport chapter house Sarah caught the tail end of a conversation, an argument really, that she heard many times on T.V. It was the age-old argument.

Among the group of youngsters, some older, and some younger than Sarah there was a light that attracted her attention well before the words they spoke told her what was going on. It was the light emitted by pokemon evolution. From the snippets of conversation she had heard it appeared that Olivia had enough to get the beautifly she desired. It had just fluttered up to its trainer as Sarah jogged over.

As the exuberant child bounded onto the scene her arrival did not go unnoticed by the other children or their pokemon. Her Pokemon Lens was secured to her belt, while the other children's pokemon gauntlets were either strapped to them, or tucked away somewhere safely. "Wow," Sarah said as she looked to the Beautifly that had just hovered up to her trainer.

"Quite," Olivia quipped back.

"So you're going to be a contestant, then?" Sarah asked as she caught her breath.

"Only the greatest beauty coordinator in the city. Maybe even the whole world!" Olivia said with a mark of smug determination as she reached out to her Beautifly.

"That's super neat!" Sarah said, gaining some ire from Ezmarelda before she continued. "I have one of those too," Sarah lied as she pulled her Premium Ball off of her belt, "Being the best... it's a lot of hard work." She looked thoughtfully at her ball as if she was realizing something too for the first time. "I don't know if we can do it." Sarah added while lecturing Olivia, who was largely unimpressed.

"It is." Olivia said with a hair flip, some people just aren't cut out for it." She added, "A lot goes into making a prize winning pokemon," she said as she started counting on her fingers, "First you need a good pokemon, like my beautifly." The complement made the beautifly smile, but then Olivia kept talking. "Obviously it'll need a specially formulated diet to shine up its dull coat." The beautifly's eyes drooped and it sagged a little in the air, but Olivia kept talking. "Of course then there's grooming, and accessories and don't even get me started on fashion advice."

"You're wrong." Sarah interrupted. She was quiet at first but then pointed her Premium Ball at Olivia. A universal symbol of intent. "First you need to know what your pokemon is capable of. Then you need the determination to accept that or change it."

"Don't be ridiculous," Olivia said, "I'm not going to battle you."

Sarah frowned but it was Ezmarelda who spoke up, "Are you afraid of a little competition, Olive?"

"That's not a very winning attitude, Olivia!" another girl called from the rear.

"Fine." Olivia said in a huff.

The other trainer directed her beautifly to the center of the ring of girls that had parted for Sarah to join. In response Sarah tapped the button on her ball which caused her ditto to spring forth. It's imposter ability activated immediately and it copied the opponent beautify.

Sarah pulled her Pokemon Lens of her belt as it read "Beauty Contestant Olivia would like to battle!" Though, this time Sarah was given the option to allow others in her Pokemon Fanclub network to spectate, and she checked the yes box, before hitting yes again on the do not ask again option.

After listening to her Lens Report, Sarah tabbed over to the list of moves her Ditto acquired from the transformation, and the list was disparagingly short indeed. After that she was ready to battle. She called to her pokemon with the first move of the match: "Squishy, use harden!"

Olivia on the other-hand too a different approach, "Let's finish this quickly. Use tackle."

After bolstering it's defense the transformed ditto-beautifly also engaged in tackle use, and the two pokemon flopped about in the air for a few moments. Olivia's pokemon tried desperately to win her approval by making its attacks as artfully executed as it could manage, meanwhile Squishy's lax attitude, and defensive state encouraged it to pay the other pokemon little mind.

"You... You don't have any idea what you're doing, do you?" Sarah said to an increasingly flustered opponent.

"Shut up and fight!" Olivia shouted back before redirecting her focus to her pokemon, "You're making me look bad!"

"Tell you what," Sarah said as she offered a bit of free advice. "When your pokemon evolved it learned gust, but you didn't bother to check your Gauntlet. It's a lot stronger than tackle."

Olivia looked to her opponent and then back to her pokemon. "Is that true!?" The pokemon cocked its head as if it didn't understand the question, before Olivia decided just to test it. "Use gust!"

Sarah grinned as she commanded her ditto. "Me First."

The two beautiflies flapped their wings at each other, one slightly faster than the other, and a small air-front built up between them, and then exploded. Air rushed out of the circle of cheering kids as the beautifly crashed, and the Ditto transformed back. Sarah quickly scooped up the slimy pokemon with both arms—between which it was barely contained—while she kissed what should be its face. She then turned to Olivia whose harsh gaze shot daggers at her, before turning an oppressive disappointed stare to her unconscious pokemon. "Rule #1." Sarah said, allowing herself to gloat a bit, "Your opponent is not'cha friend."

"But how!?" Olivia asked more to herself than to her opponent. "They were the same."

"They're not the same." Sarah indignantly explained the one of the common misconceptions about dittos, "Squishy is a lot more durable than most bugs, even if he's a little slower." she squeezed her ditto with excitement and its eyes bulged a little like a beach-ball sized stress-ball. "I've also had him all my life, and we know each other very well." She shrugged, "You know nothing about your pokemon, or mine, and that's the point." the emphasized words were further accented with finger quotes.

"That was really mean," Ezmarelda said while coming to the defense of her (admittedly bad) friend. "That's going way too far."

Sarah hoisted her pokemon up to reposition it for comfort before looking back to, or more accurately, down on Ezmarelda. "Lots of people wanna to be the best," she said while returning her ditto to its ball so the lens could work its healing magic. "Not all of them gonna be nice."
@Phoenix

Sorry about my absence in private, but in short, all my professors gave me the opportunity to remake a previous assignment in addition to the homework i had this week. So I spent the last 90 hours doing a month's worth of homework. I'm back on track now, and wanted to know if you wanted to colab the battle I planned for the girls, or if you want me to just do it while controlling those NPCs myself.

I can get it done today but I need an answer.
@nitemare shape

I explained my absence in private, about 20 min ago via Discord, but in short: all my professors gave me the opportunity to make up previous assignment in addition to the homework I had this week so I spent the last 90 hours doing a month's worth of homework. I'm back on track now and updated the colab for you to respond to. Rest assured I have a new angle in mind that I don't believe will conflict with anything you or Fallen are planning/doing.
@PhoenixCool, looking forward to it. Been busy with classes, midterms, and all that so I'll check back when you mention me again.

Edit: Or were you meaning to get Sarah involved with the kid trainers in your latest post? Because I could totally see her siding with Ezma and challenging Olivia to a battle.
