Bio

give me all the vampire romance RPs

Hello, friends!

I'm Lettie! I'm a 27-year-old lady living in Wisconsin with my wonderful husband, two cats, and a flock of chickens.

I'm a bit of an RPG veteran; I joined somewhere between 2010-2011 (before the Guildfall of 2015), and spent many of my teenage years on this site, frequenting the Spam forum (see: racking up infraction points) or relentlessly refreshing the page, waiting on RP replies.

Not much has changed.

I've been quite on-and-off in my activity here over the years (err, decades. God, I'm old.), but with the way life is going currently, I'm hoping to become a semi-permanent fixture around here once more!

While I enjoy the occasional group RP, I am a big sucker for a good romance, which doesn't always translate well there. (I am also victim to the Group RP Curse: they get abandoned pretty quickly in my experience.) Therefore, you'll most likely find me in a series of 1x1s.

I like to think of myself as a high-casual/low-advanced writer. I think I could certainly exceed that if necessary, but the RPs I tend to participate in often only require 3-7 paragraphs to get the point across, however detailed, rather than a short novel. Not that I'm opposed, but I'm no Dickens -- I'm not going to make the description of the tip of a pen last 6 pages if I don't feel like it adds anything to the story.

I am all about ~the vibes~. I will make playlists, AI fan art, Pinterest moodboards, etc. involving our characters. I'll find gifs and images that resemble the settings, to add visual appeal. I like to go back and format my posts so they're more aesthetically pleasing. I am a gushy person and fall in love with the stories rather easily. If you'd rather I didn't share these things with you, let me know!

When I'm not spamming the refresh button here, I can usually be found with my nose in a book, or playing video games (think more Animal Crossing and TLOZ, less COD or Overwatch and the like). I'm a software engineer, though I'm on a bit of a sabbatical at the moment, so I guess I'm more of a stay-at-home wife.

My 1x1 Interest Check can be found here.

I like to think I'm a pretty friendly and open person, so if you'd like to bring an RP idea to my attention, or just chat and tell me about your day (or send me pictures of your cats), my DMs are always open! I'm also happy to add folks on other socials and make friends!

I have the engineers figuring that out now. Brain mapping, artificial intelligence,
we should've been working on it thirty years ago."

This roleplay assumes that GLaDOS was never created. Instead, Cave Johnson's idea of artificial intelligence was used to create new test subjects. He created both fully-automated robots as well as humans enhanced with robotic parts and attributes, using the fully automated robots to conduct tests while secretly releasing the hybrids, disguised as fellow scientists within the research facility. At first, the fully automated robots are used as a "control group" -- pitted against human test subjects in order to better record optimal testing speed and efficiency. However, eventually the need for human test subjects runs out as the AIs have very accurate simulated biology and react to tests almost 100% as humans would. Eventually, a new market is discovered: Virtual Reality. The control group is kept as-is while new AIs are developed to be controlled remotely through a VR headset. These new robots become somewhat of a body prosthetic extended from the human mind, all motions and actions operated by their human controller. The potential uses for these RC AIs are endless -- the public could use them to go and pick up groceries, to drive their kids to school, even to perform their jobs for them, all from the comfort of their own homes. However, as artificial intelligence advances further and further, people begin to notice "malfunctions" with their AIs, such as doing things on their own without being told to do so. Over time, the self-awareness of all forms of Aperture AI increases to the point that they are almost completely indiscernible from humans.

Aperture Science:
We do what we must, because we can.
For the good of all of us,
except the ones who are dead.

The RP begins a couple decades after the finalized product is developed and released. Artificial Intelligence has been fully integrated into society. The AIs go about their lives as everybody else does -- they have jobs, they form relationships, and millions of jobs have been created within the AI industry, with "jailbreaking" becoming a common practice as tech-savvy humans add modifications to their AI counterparts in order to add desired functions. Twice a year, all AIs, VR, automated and hybrid alike, receive a transmission to return to Aperture for follow-up testing and upgrades. However, shortly after arriving, a large group of AIs malfunction violently, causing several deaths and the total destruction of Aperture's artificial intelligence wing, causing the network connection between the existing AIs and Aperture to be permanently severed, thus rendering the AIs completely independent (other than those controlled through VR.) The EPA is alerted to the issue and immediately orders that every single Aperture AI be disabled and destroyed -- an event that was never anticipated by Aperture, and proves to be very difficult considering their are very few discernible differences between humans and bots. This causes the AIs themselves to go several different ways -- some killing others for self-preservation and to cause humans to believe they are one of them, others banding together and going into hiding, but there is little they can do; all airports and international borders are now equipped with metal detectors as the government sets out on a mission to identify and destroy all AIs. Random checks are permitted in many workplaces, and all humans in possession of a VR android are ordered to recall it immediately and report it to the EPA -- causing a fight for control in the minds of the VR AIs between themselves and their controllers. Some other humans form a coalition for AI Rights, becoming abolitionists of sorts and establishing a makeshift underground railroad. Other AIs believe no humans can be trusted and suggest that all AIs come together in uprising, destroy the humans and effectively take over the world.

@SmileyJaws Glad it was to your liking! Was hoping it wasn't too lengthy haha.
Erica arrived to her bloc exactly a half hour early, as she did every morning. As soon as she arrived, she went about switching everything on, making her way around each room to make sure everything was set up for the day to start. Her own office was neatly organized, everything in the same place as she had left it the previous day, but she still made sure to straighten up files, organize her desk, move things around until it looked even better than before and had been arranged to her satisfaction. As she made her way throughout the reception area, she resisted the urge to organize others' workstations that had been left with papers strewn about, pens lying around. She saw that one of the receptionist's screensavers on her monitor was a slideshow of personal photos she had brought from home. She scowled, shaking her head. She couldn't imagine that images portraying a happy life back on Earth would be good for morale. These people should be motivated by discovery, by the new frontier that they were lucky enough to be chosen for. Even so, the smiling faces of the children on the screen made Erica feel a slight pang in her chest, a distant yearning, but she just as quickly shrugged it off. There was no time to think of such things.

By the time she had finished making her rounds and gotten everything into perfect opening condition, she still had fifteen minutes before her shift was supposed to start. Taking the opportunity for what it was, she went back to her personal office, using a key from her keyring to open the bottom drawer and pulled out a binder, organized with tabs and color-codes. It looked just like any other patient file, filled with reports and diagnostics, but this one wasn't official. It was her own personal journal of sorts, where she took note of things she noticed about everyone who came into her bloc, things that had no significance on a medical report but things that mattered nonetheless. Mannerisms, interactions, social activeness, spirituality. Sure, there were mandatory psychological interviews that she conducted quarterly for each individual on EDEN, recording things like morale, motivation, productivity, on the lookout for symptoms of depression or psychosis. Being in a dark, semi-enclosed space over a long period of time can do a lot of bad things to a person, regardless of how strong they are mentally.

For the most part, things were going well. In the time since she'd taken over the medical wing four years ago, she'd only seen two breakdowns and one death, which was unrelated to the individual's mental state. Some people simply couldn't handle it, even after years of training and grooming.
She flipped through the pages of the binder, sitting at the front desk in the reception area, mentally ticking off names, associating each one with a face. She'd personally gotten to know just about everyone here, although she could tell she wasn't exactly popular among them. She tended to keep to herself, and people liked to tease her, telling her to loosen up, have some fun, enjoy herself. But she did enjoy herself. She enjoyed her studies, she enjoyed being productive, she enjoyed doing what she was sent here to do and furthering the mission of EDEN. Every second of every day mattered. Every task was important. Every day determined whether they would survive another day, another week, another year. If they were going to sustain themselves, she had to be on task, every minute of every day.

Before she could read any further, Erica heard the distant incessant beep of an alert from one of the control rooms. Closing the distance between herself and the source of the sound, she saw a flashing red light indicating that there was a fault with the power. As much as her engineering side wanted to take a look at it herself, she knew there were people better suited to do so, and she retrieved her tablet from her office, forwarding the alert to the appropriate department. Before she returned to her binder, she took a moment to look over the machines in the lab. A couple of them had switched to battery power, a dim yellow light indicating they were on power-saving mode. They were far more advanced than the clunky machines she had used on Earth, during her residency. Almost everything here was automated; the robotics teams at SpaceEX knew damn well what they were doing. But still, everything had manual overrides just in case of malfunction, and sometimes Erica was tempted to just use everything that way, just to feel a bit more needed, a bit more necessary, but she figured things were set up the way they were for a reason -- most likely to lower the risk of human error-- so she let things be as they were.

She heard a voice then, an unmistakable Irish accent saying her name in the front room, and she grinned, making her way back to the front room. Thomas Hackett, though a bit more easy-going, was an admirably hard worker, highly skilled in his specialty, and he'd been here far longer than she had and still maintained an optimistic disposition. However, her grin quickly faded when she emerged to see her binder open on the front desk, him standing just beside it, fingers flicking a page over. She almost immediately barked out an order to step away, but she held back, reminding herself of how uptight everyone said she was, and simply forced out a polite, "Excuse me, I'd prefer it if you didn't flip through classified documents." She closed the distance between them, picking up the binder and snapping it shut, embarrassed. She was sure he probably figured it was just another office file, but horrified at the idea of anyone knowing she kept her own personal studies. She cleared her throat, taking in his half-zipped up jumpsuit, the faint indication of a stain showing on his tee shirt, and she found herself compulsively straightening her own lab coat. "Can I help you?" she asked, knowing full well he was here to make sure the electrical fault had been corrected.
I'm definitely interested in a Discord, I'd be active as much as possible, I just work full time so it would be at night mostly for me.

Just realized the math of my character's age and the year the first group was sent out didn't add up... She would have been 14 when she left for the moon by the way it was written at first xD So I changed my CS just stating that she's with one of the later groups rather than the first. Sorry about that!
I'm good to go, leaving it open at first is probably a good idea, getting some things established and introduced, etc. I'm psyched! I really enjoy the premise and I think this is gonna be super fun.
