The roads seemed pretty clear of humans and the Demons, as far as I can see.
As soon as the thought crossed my mind I felt myself cringe. The smell of Demons was quite putrid, a mix of death, blood, rotting flesh, and burnt skin. I halted immediately, crouching on the tree branch I had just leapt onto and contemplated my options. There were no humans nearby, or these Demons would be making a beeline for them. No, they were... Resting, I suppose was the right term, though I don't believe these creatures needed to "rest" the same way humans do.
No humans nearby meant no danger for the moment. I still needed to eat my fruity breakfast, and that Cliff bar would not be enough fuel for when I take out those Demons. I quickly sniffed the air before holding in a gag and covering my face with the crook of my elbow. Four. I think there are four Demons. If humans could smell Demons to the same extent as I, they'd be running for the hills before the Demons even begin to give chase.
Holding my breath, I crouched down lower, ready to spring to the next one on my left. As I was in human form, this position would look rather awkward to an outsider. I quickly shook that thought out of my mind before pushing off the branch, launching myself silently to the next tree. I landed hands first, as always, and tilted my hips to the left as I dug my crescent-shaped claws into the bark of the tree. The momentum spun my lower body so I landed parallel to the branch, and I landed almost soundlessly on my socked feet. I repeated this process and leapt from tree to tree, pausing every once in a while to listen for humans and check for Demons. There were no animals around.
I finally reached the perimeter of the Demon's stink bubble, meaning it was time to finish my breakfast. I'm getting bored of avocados and oranges.
