The sound of Addison’s alarm jolted her out of bed. She groaned as she realised she forgot to turn off her alarm the night before. Who actually wanted to wake up early on a Sunday? The woman lounged around for a moment as she debated what to do before settling on sleeping in for an extra hour or three. When she eventually decided to roll herself out of bed and grab a shower it was almost midday. Not that it particularly bothered the girl, she was used to be waking up and rolling out of bed whenever was convenient for her – besides what could she have missed on a Sunday?
Almost like clockwork her phone pinged with an email notification from the local gamers group. Addison had long been a member and had happily subscribed to the mailing list when she got given the opportunity. Reading the email revealed that there was a Street Fighter Arcade Tournament happening today – but what truly grabbed Addison’s attention was the words grand prize. Getting dressed and stuffing some a piece of toast layered in marshmallow fluff Addison headed down to the only place in Shine City she loved more than her own bed – the Arcade.
Addison made it to the Arcade with a ton of time to spare, but she didn’t mind since it just meant more time to warm up in preparation for her dominating the tournament. However before Addison had time to jump on a machine and start warming up her nimble fingers she was pulled away from her objective by someone calling to her.
“Hey, hey, pretty lady. What’s a girl like you doing in the Arcade?”
“Um…I’m here to play some games. Why else would I come to the Arcade?”
“Lots of girls come here to meet their boyfriends. But it’s pretty cool if you’ve come to play some games. Lemme guess…Dance Dance Revolution?”
Addison had to channel all her willpower into not rolling her eyes into the back of her skull. Unfortunately, the world was plagued with guys like…this. Still, since she had so much time to spare she supposed this might be an entertaining way to spend it. With a loud exaggerated gasp, she put on as girly a tone as she could muster.
“Oh em gee. How did you know?”
“Yeah, it’s a typical chick game. Once you get to be an experienced gamer like me you know who is looking for what.”
“Wow, that is SO impressive. So tell me, what does an experienced player like you play?”
“Ah, I’m all about the new game Zombie Attack! It’s an FPS so I don’t know if you’d be into it.”
“Oooh, I haven’t heard of that one before. Is it new? I’d love if you could show me.”
“Sure! Right this way little lady.”
Impressed that she managed to avoid vomiting her own mouth, Addison followed the guy to a typical arcade machine with two guns attached to a steel wire cable. She hadn’t been lying when she said she’d never heard of it – work had kept her busy lately and so when the arcade added some new machines, she’d never gotten the chance to try them out, but it wasn’t exactly any different from the other arcade shooters she’d played. She watched as the boy loaded the machine in with tokens. Why he had so many tokens she wasn’t sure, but the number of plays kept going up.
“It might take a while to teach you, but we have loads of plays, so don’t worry if you’re not very good. I’m sure I can get you at least 600 points. You see the leaderboard? Well, the number six score on it? It’s mine. 2300 points.”
“Oh my gosh! That’s so cool. So, how do I play?”
“Okay, first of all, you just need to aim at the zombie's head, pull the trigger and the game begins. Then you just have to shoot the zombies. They come in waves and if you take more than 3 hits then you die but if you can last the whole 10 rounds then you win the game.”
Nodding at the instructions like a seemingly diligent pupil, Addison let out a fake giggle before shooting the zombie's head and starting the game. She launched into shooting the zombies, drawing on all of her past experience playing these type of games.
“Wow, a headshot on your first try. Not bad.”
“Oh, you haven’t seen anything yet.”
♡
“Winner!” Came the robotic call of the machine as Addison blew the tip of the plastic gun in a mock burst of showiness. Her final victory using up the last of the plays that the gentlemen had so kindly given her. The scoreboard of the game flashed as at the top ten spots all now had Addison inscribed on them. When Addison turned to her gentlemen companion he was clearly gobsmacked and a tad embarrassed. A call over the PA for everyone participating in the Street Fighter tournament sounded and Addison blew the boy a mock kiss before turning her back on him and walking away.
The tournament was filled with all kinds of people, many of whom she recognised, but still a fair few she didn’t. As the competitors lined up and down on the machines ready for their fights, Addison stretched out. That shooting game had been a good warm up after all. With nimble fingers at the ready, she and the other competitors watched as the mechanical voice of the machines called out in unison…
“Ready?”
“Go!”

As Addison stared at herself in her full-length bedroom mirror weighing up which outfit to wear she kept an eye on the time as she waited for any of her friends to text her back about heading off to The Cornerstone. It turned out the grand prize was just a bunch of drink vouchers to a quiet bar. Not particularly grand, but a prize none the less. The only problem was that all of her friends were seemingly unavailable. Okay so it was a Sunday night and most them had work the next day but…so what? She had work tomorrow too but did that stop her from having fun? No.
Addison hadn’t ventured into Cornerstone before, she’d heard it was a good place to get a nice relaxing drink but the problem was what outfit was suitable for that type of establishment. In the end, she chose a denim jacket to wear over a crop top, a mini skirt and some ripped knee high socks and some casual sneakers. Casual enough she could go to a bar, but just enough to be allowed into a club if it turned out the place was a dive. She decided to catch an Uber to the bar since she knew at the end of the night she wouldn’t be in any fit state to drive – at least if the night was successful.
Entering the bar revealed a string of patrons, it wasn’t crowded, but there were more people can she was expecting. Addison made her way to the bar and popped onto a bar stool without paying much attention to her surroundings. The music was nice at the very least, it wasn’t exactly what she was used to but it wasn’t bad. As soon as the bartender walked by Addison grabbed his attention.
“Hey, I’ll take a vodka soda, please. Oh right, before I forget, I also have these.” Addison said producing the vouchers. “I won them today at the Street Fighter tournament.”
The bartender just nodded his head before accepting the voucher in exchange for the drink. Looking next to her Addison had pulled up a seat next to a guy drinking what looked to be whiskey and the guy next to him – they were both pretty handsome. Maybe there was a reason to come to this place after all if these kind of guys were the regulars. Neither of them looked like they were in the mood for conversation but if there was one thing Addison was good at, it was making friends.
“Hey fellas, think I could buy you your next drink? I have a ton of these free drink things to use up and my friends ditched me tonight.” Noticing the open box of cigars Addison promptly helped herself with a smile. “I hope you don’t mind.”
It had been a while since Addison had a cigar, they used to be all the rage a few years back but now she rarely saw them and she never really fancied getting them just for herself. She gave a polite thanks to the bartender when he brought her drink. Taking a quick sip she turned her attention back to her new friends.
“My name is Addison, by the way, but feel free to call me Addi – or whatever you want. So, what’s the story of the two handsome strangers in the bar?”
I hope you’re all having a swell weekend, mine is kinda busy but I’m still finding time to plague OOC’s with my existence. 8)
Congratulations @ProPro children are so exciting! Just try to update and stick with us where you can. I’ll be slightly altering the start of roleplay for the sake of not putting any pressure on ProPro to have an immediate post out since the opening of the roleplay kind of depended on some Avatar action. What we will do instead is have the group ready to observe the Avatar and then the White Lotus spots a United Forces patrol and so the group just kind of rush aboard the Airship. We’ll take a bit more time for character interaction at the start as well so that everyone can make a formal introduction and kind of see how the character relationships pan out. As for that, the rest should go according to our agenda. The roleplay will be opening at some point tomorrow. I feel like Monday is a good day because it allows for the weekly sweep to give everyone lots of time because you get all week and then the weekend so there is (hopefully) no major reason to stress. I won’t count anyone as having not posted until I check the following Tuesday and so hey if you end up being mega sneaky with a post before I can see it then congratulations.
Now, as you probably noticed, there hasn’t been an option to apply for villains. This isn’t because I intend to play all the villains in the roleplay myself; I MEAN IF I HAVE TO BUT I’D RATHER NOT. As I said before you guys are free to contribute book ideas, drive the narrative and create NPC’s as you see fit. The same applies for antagonists and villain characters. The reason why I chose not to have a set villain roles that people could apply for as primary characters is due to the nature of Avatar; it’s a really story-driven universe centered around the Avatar (no shit) and their friends. Even though it feels like Azula was in every single episode of Book 2 and 3, she was only in 20 overall. Mai was only in 13 and poor Ty Lee only got to be in 10 episodes. Each of the Korra villains mostly only appeared in their own books – Kuvira being the only real exception although the other villains all returned once or twice. I’m sure this roleplay will be the same in a lot of ways. There will be moments of genuine instructor and Avatar wisdom session for all of the instructors and while everyone in else in Team Avatar can interact amongst themselves or go with the Avatar into the spirit world via a portal or whatever it is, villains don’t have the same luxury. There is also the fact that eventually villains have to lose and while I’m sure some people have had great experiences in roleplays most of mine have included people not wanting to kiss goodbye to their beloved character. Which is fair enough if they’re your main focus within a roleplay. Anyway since we all now have a primary character with which we can focus on I’d like to open the roleplay up to villain creation for you guys! You don’t have to fill in the whole thing character sheet, just send me a filled in version of the below example via PM and we’re good to go.
Name Azula
Age 14
Goal To fuck shit up
Abilities #FirebendingQueen2k16
Superior Sibling Automatically better than Zuko at everything.
To answer any initial questions you might have your villains will be able to phase in and out of the story so if we need them a lot at one point then cool! But if you have nothing to post for them as then you’re not required to. I’ll be measuring your activity through your primary character so if you make like 12 villains then I don’t expect you to post for them all every week, so long as your member of Team Avatar is posted for then you’re covered. On the same note if you’ve created a villain and you happen to need to post for them more than your primary character (maybe they’re about to end the Avatar cycle who knows) but you only have time for one post then just say so and I’ll be happy to count it.
No, your antagonists do not need to be a part of the United Nations. They can do whatever they want. They don’t even have to be serious threats if you wanna make Team Rocket style villains that just show up to get blasted then you do you. I’ll also be slightly more lenient with villain powers. If you have any more questions then hit up your favourite unbiased GM.
Finally if you have any ideas for events that drive the narrative forward, allow for a lot of character interaction or are just entertaining (something like entering all the women into a Miss Avatar Universe competition only for them to discover neither of the men voted for them) then please hit me up – even if you have a whole idea for a Book like give it to me I’m happy to allow someone else to steer the ship for a bit. And feel free to plot together to come up with things that involve other characters. Maybe you really hate me and wanna see Kariya suffer so you decide to invade the Southern Water Tribe with a group of villains. () Or maybe you want to make your character suffer? Don’t be afraid to grab the limelight for a bit, every character should shine.
I hope you all remain invested in this roleplay and I look forward to creating a cool Avatar Universe with you. (Sorry for the uber OOC post)
I mean that is under the assumption that everyone actually sticks around and makes a character and brotherhood (at least to me) implies a largish number. That being said I'd be happy to play a regular old hoe if the GM wants you fewer glitched.
