Deucalion watched everyone gather without a word. He did his best to refrain from forming an opinion too early on, because his first impressions were always excessively harsh and that didn't assist with the mission in any way, shape, or form. So he watched quietly, listening to how everyone interacted with everyone else. There were even a few who had known the commander from earlier engagements. That could be a good sign since it meant at least a few members could survive difficult situations together.
There was talking, too much of it. He didn't have a problem with conversations among team members when there was a point to it, but this seemed more like stalling. I understand there is a need for communication, but wouldn't that be better done on the ship, in air, instead of here, on the ground, while nothing is being done?"
