Kayleb stared after the pale teacher and the teacher with the top hat, the bright light's traces in his eyes. He looked at the strip of leather he'd been given.
'Thanks, I guess!' He called after them as they left.
Did she really just smear her blood on her skirt and give it to him as a hall pass? Then again, there was that top hat guy's light show to think about. But after seeing the demon arm and hearing the kind of rumours coming from a place like this, Kayleb had already cordoned off an area in his mind that he labelled as 'magic stuff', to which he entered the 2 events that just unfolded. Must be magic was the thought that Kayleb would get used to quickly in a place like this. Kayleb shrugged it off as magic and seriously stared at the 'hall pass' he'd been given. Even if it was magic, smearing blood on a piece of your skirt you just tore off... That's pretty interesting. And Kayleb figured he'd see a lot more interesting things before the day was done. Kayleb started grinning in anticipation.
Kayleb! You're grinning like a crazy guy! Saydie said, interrupting his thoughts.
'What, really?' Kayleb said, covering his mouth in an unsuccessfully bid stop grinning. 'I might be crazy.'
I don't want you to be crazy! I hate it when you're crazy! Saydie said, a not of panic entering her voice.
'Hey, Saydie-' Kayleb started, realising he'd reopened old wounds.
I don't want you to be a crazy guy! I don't want it to be like last time! If you did that I-
Kayleb hugged Saydie for a few seconds, resting his chin on her head, calming her down.
'I know Saydie. I promise I'm not crazy.' Kayleb said, grin long gone.
Really? Saydie asked.
'I made a promise to you, remember?' Kayleb reminded her.
The 2 made a promise all those years ago, after an incident that Saydie and Kayleb hadn't managed to get over yet. Even now, Saydie was still worried.
'It's fine. Even after all this time, I still can't say I regretted what I did that day...' Kayleb said, a dangerous glint in his eye.
Kayleb...
'It's fine. Breaking the promise I made to you is something that won't even happen when hell freezes over. So don't worry.' Kayleb said, releasing his hug and putting his hand on her head. 'We're siblings, right?'
You know I hate being pet. I'm technically your older sister. Saydie pouted. But the fact that she let the topic go meant she forgave him. Kayleb chuckled a little as his grin returned.
You're still grinning like a crazy person.
'Alright.' Kayleb said, slinging Saydie into his hoody. 'Let's go find that teacher that the pale lady mentioned.'
With that, Kayleb crunched through the snow towards the large door and where awaited his new life of magic and education.
