Most people who take opiates do so responsibly ergo there should be zero regulations on there sale and distribution. Or whatever other simile you want to dream up.

There are assloads of regulations on the sale and distribution of firearms. What additional regulation do you propose?

Conservatives don't do jack shit. The only thing they have done is try to make everything difficult for Obama for 8 years, and changing Healthcare to be worse.

Well conservatives in government also roll over and sell out their libertarian-leaning base in misguided "compromises" then celebrate the "victory" by playing up the theocratic elements of the deal.

SMALL counterpoint -- my personal experience with fed-controlled healthcare has left me firmly and completely convinced that anything and everything done to fight US single-payer is a win. I get that it's appealing to the uninitiated, but I don't wish what I got on anybody, and when the GOP fights it, I'm happy with the GOP. Can go deeper on that again if you missed the last episode of mdk backstory, but be warned my feelings are strong.

MORE TO THE POINT: Conservatives don't do jack shit, because conservatism is about small government that doesn't do jack shit. That's.... kind of our deal. No federal regulation of any kind is going to motivate those three Broward County cops to go in and do their fucking job -- to pretend otherwise is a waste of time. I mean we can push whatever law you want through Congress, but the three trained locals holding the weapons? They are the real law. We're all gonna be a lot happier with our real law if I handle mine and you handle yours. Hell, buy your own gun, if god forbid you need it you'll find the individual matters a whole lot more in the real world than the virtues we signal in D.C.
<Snipped quote by mdk>

Well after an exhaustive search I was unable to find a single case of an AR-15 being used to inflict harm...

Well of course. But restricting responsible gun ownership in response to mass shootings is like taking cars away from sober people to combat drunk driving. If a law was gonna prevent criminals from doing criminal shit, then the laws against murder should've pretty much nipped this whole thing in the bud, yeah?
I'm not against the 2nd amendment in the slightest, honestly. It gives far more benefits than problems, and most anti-gun liberals do about as much unbiased research into that as conservatives do with climate change. However something I will stress that @Xandrya brought up is, at least liberals are trying. They'll look at a mass shooting and go "something should be done" which is more than I can say for any conservative/republicans that I know. All they'll do is say the left is stupid and they hug their guns like 17 deaths is 'no reason to go overboard.' It's honestly disgusting.

I dunno. I mean I get what you're saying here and there's a valid emotional anchor to it, and you're not wrong for that. It's just.... the left is railing against the NRA. Dana Loesch went to CNN's town-hall/circus and sat through some disgusting rhetoric (from the 'trying' left), and like.... hang on, here's a list of all the mass-murderers in history who were NRA members:

comprehensive list

Frankly I've gotten used to the lashing-out, because it happens all the goddamn time (not only from the left, that's just where I notice it because I'm biased). I'm not judging anyone for lashing out after a bunch of kids got fucking murdered. I'm also, ya know, I'm not stoked on legislating that lash-out when it's so blatantly misguided. Like.... we just watched as three armed cops sat outside the school and let a bunch of kids die, and the response is "Let's take away guns, so that only THOSE SAME COPS can stop a killer?" Really? And I already feel bad about wording that as strongly as I did (which isn't that strong TBH), this is an emotional moment, feel that shit, I don't mean to condescend. Just saying. My answer's gonna be no, when we get to the part where they're pitching a "solution." Heads up on that.

School shootings have gone up since we made them "gun-free zones." I don't think it's insane to talk about letting teachers arm themselves to protect their students (provided we're also talking about training the volunteers).
Look AR-15s make us safe

I mean....
That is why Australia is such a hub of international gun running.

I'll recommend the award winning Mad Max documentaries.

I'm so hyped on Mad Max 5: Brexit. I know it's early but I think this is gonna be the best installment in the series, possibly even better than Fury Road.

Where was this study when I needed it??
unrelated hot take: Fergie's national anthem wasn't that bad.
Really looks like you're trying to use someone else's ban to intimidate a new member.

Naw, they were (somewhat rightfully) responding to some almost-certainly-too-on-the-nose cheekiness from a very old member (this guy) who oughta know better, but that's just my read.
Your definition of butthurt is clearly different from mine. That or your perception is flawed. I'm beginning to see now what mdk is referring to if you thought that the exchange I've participated in this thread involved my feelings being affected. I am sad for you and anyone that you attempt to engage in an intelligent discourse with if this is an example of how you conduct yourself in those instances.

Let's, uh.... let's not personalize this whole thing any more than we've already done, yeah? Anyone got some politics going on? Politics, anyone?

edit: I know, I know, I just did that. Thought I was being funny, this suddenly feels like I started a more serious turn and I don't wanna do that. Let's do the politics thing instead, that's better.
I strive very hard to turn arguments about controversial topics into conversations and discussions with differing viewpoints. I never believe I'm right and you're wrong, just that we disagree, and I like to state the reasons why I feel the way I do, while listening to someone else's.

Im referring to your previous quotes you made about the diasabled, if a politician came out in support of that sort of treatment for them, I'm sure youd vote for them based on that too, mate.

Here we see two different approaches to debate.....
