It was starting to get late into the evening on a Friday night, Kari was walking along the street with Alexa, talking happily. The air was crisp and a soft breeze blew gently through the trees, with very few clouds in the sky, revealing the dim stars and the new moon and aside from the soft chirping of crickets there was little noise. They had been out later than intended, but she didn’t feel overly worried. They both went to school and lived in a safe neighbourhood; there were shadier spots in the city to be. Needless to say, the girl was excited for the weekend.
Kari sighed as they reached the street corner that marked the place where they must part to go home, she up a flight of stairs and through an alley, and Alexa across the road and down a few blocks. “I guess I’ll see you on the weekend sometime?” She asked hopefully, smiling slightly. She took a few steps, watching Alexa walk onto the road. Around the corner she could see a car driving erratically down the street. A sleek, black, sporty looking car that came screeching around the corner, heading straight for Alexa. It was as if everything slowed down, things began playing in slow motion as Kari reached out. “Alexa look out!”
The air night suddenly became cold and still, all noise seemed to disappear, the car seemed to slow to an unearthly stop, no noise, the lights seemed to dim and then street lights began to flicker. Suddenly the stillness of the night erupted into forceful wind, crashing around the pair violently, tearing at clothes. The trees on the street side shook fiercely and suddenly a branch came loose, falling onto the power lines. Instant darkness of lost power was followed by a few sparks from the severed cable before it came to rest of the other side of the street.
A soft light began emitting from beneath Alexa’s clothes, near her chest. The light grew brighter and brighter, to the point where there was nothing else to see, it began floating, all on its own and released a powerful pulse of energy which sent Kair and Alexa sprawling to the ground and the car sent flying backwards through the air, flipping in the air and landing upside-down a few metres away.
A few seconds later the wind died, returning to the strangely still and now very quiet night. With the light of the crystal extinguished after the blast and the power out on the street it was dark once more, the stars and new moon doing very little to provide light to see by. After a few seconds of silence more light entered the world, beside her a soft glowing surrounded an unearthly figure, whom seemed to be floating in mid air.
The figure was human in shape, but very slender, their body a bizarre white-ish blue, their hair seeming to defy gravity along with the rest of their body as it curled up over their head. The figure seemed tense for a moment, their eyes, one golden, one white, locked onto where the vehicle lie. The figure didn’t turn to the girl next to him, but eventually did speak. “Rise.” He said, for the voice confirmed that it was a male. After a few seconds, he spoke again. “Rise up. You are safe now.”
“Alexa! Are you okay?!” Kari shouted worriedly from her place on the ground.
