[Location: Abigail's Room]
She looked intently at her mirror, checking once again if her clothing was appropriate for a first impression. The girl chose to wear a lightweight dress for tonight. It was ebony black with runs of grey and white, just dull enough to completely highlight her radiant red eyes. She blinks to herself and nods with satisfaction.
Now, she checks if all the frills and ribbons on her dress were properly in place; it would be embarrassing to have to doll up like this and have a lace undone
(Nothing seems out of place..) She thought to herself, pulling on the strings of her front-facing ribbon. Abi smacked her lips together and smiled at herself, leaning closer to measure if her eyeliner was even, and the wings sharp.
As a last accent to her features, she swept a tuft of her bangs to the side. This was a matter of debate between Abi and her mother
Speaking of which, the woman now enters Abi's room, creaking the ancestral door with heft. They had gotten used to the tenure of this house by now, meaning to have some renovations soon. Abi insisted to have her room fixed while she was at B.U.M.; it would be more convenient for both parties if nobody was living there while the people in charge of the fixing did their magic.
The woman heaved almost, just to get through the door and into the room. Stuffed animals littered the floor, some still holding the unopened letters of marriage proposal.
"Abigail, my dear." She swept the poor cotton creatures to the side with her feet, to make a way towards her sophomore daughter.
"Aren't you going to clean up your room a bit before you leave?
It's unbearably unkempt--""Nope." Abi was applying a last touch of lip shimmer to help her stand out a little bit more. First impressions mattered the most.
"It won't make sense tidying a room I won't stay in for a while, right~" Cheekily, she pushed the tip of her tongue out through the slit of her mouth, followed by a wink.
Kassidy just sighed at her daughter, brushing aside a little issue to make way for the bigger one: her only daughter was going to be gone again. It was every mother's fear and sorrow to see their little ones go, and Kassidy was no different.
"Could you at least curl your hair a little more?" She added. This was Kassidy's single favor to Abi: a personal touch.
"Fiiiiiine" Abi playfully groaned and got the curling iron from the bathroom. She took strands of her grey hair and carefully wrapped it around a hand-me-down curler; but they chose to call it an heirloom. The inscription K.G.B. was still ever present in carving. She knew just how important it was to be the image of a Beckett-- albeit the noticeable difference in features between mother and daughter.
As Abi was getting the last bits of curls down, Kassidy put her hands on Abi's shoulders.
"You behave while you're there, alright dear?
I don't want to hear a single complaint from anyone!" Just a few more minutes before Kass could shed a tear. She didn't want to get emotional, because Abi will get emotional and they might end up crying and Abi will look ugly on her first day of school.
"I know mommy~" Yet, Abi sniffled just a bit, not enough to run her eyeliner down.
"and remember!" Kass was close to actually crying, her bottom lip quivered.
"A Beckett is the best?" Abi now slowly inched away from her emotional mother to get her bag. She had packed a day in advance, anticipating the little drama that would happen before she left. This was just a light pack, though. The rest of her stuff would come by the next weeks. This bag was the essentials such as some spare clothes in case of a change, toiletries, make-up and pocket money.
Before they knew it, the blue portal leading to the academy opens just behind them. There was already a spot allocated for that: a clear room to avoid dragging other things through the gate. It helped a lot, considering the litter on the floor. Abi quickly ran towards the coat rack beside her door, tripping on the mountains of soft tributes as she did so. Her trusty black parasol should never leave her side; she almost considered it a friend.
Now, Abi swept a path using the parasol to avoid getting snagged once again. She stepped forward into the light, waving goodbye to her mom before the portal closed.
