[ NAME ]** Kijani Ryane **
[ AGE ]** 20 **
[ GENDER ]** Female **
[ COMMUNICATOR OF ]** Thoth **
[ MYTHOLOGY OF (YOUR GOD) ]Thoth was the god of the moon, sacred texts, mathematics, the sciences, magic, messenger and recorder of the deities, master of knowledge, and patron of scribes. His Egyptian name was Djehuty, which means “He who is like the Ibis.” He was depicted as an ibis bird or a baboon.
According to one story, Thoth was born from the lips of Ra at the beginning of creation and was known as the “god without a mother.” In another story, Thoth is self-created at the beginning of time and, as an ibis, lays the cosmic egg that holds all of creation. He was always closely associated with Ra and the concept of divine order and justice.
Thoth was credited with creating the art of writing, inventing the calendar, and controlling space and time. Since he was the god of the moon, he had celestial functions and replaced the sun god, Ra, in the sky at night.
Thoth helped the funerary deities as a messenger and bookkeeper for them. He was responsible for recording the verdict of the heart-weighing ceremony that determined if the person was able to continue on to the Afterlife. If the person’s heart (spirit) balanced with Ma’at’s Feather of Truth, they passed. However, if the heart was heavier than the feather then the person did not pass. Thoth always provided guidance for the deities and regulated common everyday complaints and created new laws. Thoth suggested that if a problem couldn’t be solved, then a group should get together as an assembly and discuss it.
[ APPEARANCE ]
[ PHYSIQUE ]Kijani is 6 foot even with dark skin, golden brown eyes and thin, neat black dreadlocks. She has a lean, athletic build. She usually wears the higher end of fashion, having a preference for bespoke suits and high end shoes. When not wearing a suit, she’ll usually go for brand name jeans, sneakers, and fancy tops. Her wardrobe is massive, and she’s always dressed for success, no matter what the occasion.
[ HEIGHT / WEIGHT ]6’0’’/ 140 pounds
[ PERSONALITY ]
[ PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION ]Kijani has a tendency to be haughty and arrogant. She believes she’s more mature and therefore better than people her age, and tends to show that in her bearings to others. Most of the time she’s aloof and proud when in groups, sociable but not dishonest. She doesn’t pull punches in her speech or manner. This personality does not make her friends, and in fact pushes people away easily. She doesn’t care, or at least pretends not to. She is also a little on the hedonistic side, preferring the finer things in life.
If anyone were to get past the bitchy exterior, they’d find an intelligent, fun loving young woman full of passion. Kijani loves to read and has several nerdy passions, a secret joy for epic fantasy novels and a bookcase full of the kind of novels that you would think a girl like her would scoff at. She also has several nonfiction loves, such as stories of historical badass women, spies and secret societies. And she’d be happy to talk a person’s ear off about them at any time. She is happier when she’s not trying to be the best, and her personality would reflect that if someone was to become close with her.
[ LIKES / DISLIKES ]*Books, wine, good food
*”stupid” people, small spaces, being in the dark alone
[ BIOGRAPHY ]
[ Place of Origin ]New York
[ BIO ]Kijani was born to two very wealthy, intelligent people who so happened to be horrible marriage partners. Her parents met up at a party, one thing led to another which led to a pregnancy, a marriage of saving social graces, and a baby Kijani. Her father, a top-level computer programmer, never gave her the time of day despite living in the same house. Her mother trotted her out when she wanted other people to see her daughter as a status object, but was aloof and critical otherwise.
When Kijani was about 10, she was kidnapped and held for ransom for about 2 weeks. Her parents paid, she was released, but she was never quite the same after that. In that time period, she’d come to the conclusion that she wasn’t wanted, and that the only person who would ever look out for her was herself. She legally emancipated from her parents at 16 with no argument.
Once freed, she finished high school and dove straight into college, double majoring in business and world literature. She is excelling in all courses and already thinking about grad school.
[ REASON FOR CHOICE ]Thoth saw an intelligent, bored young woman not living up to her full potential. He took Kijani’s desperate need to see herself as different from others and gave her a real reason to believe that she was. Then made sure she was around others just like her – just to drive the point home.
[ POWERS ]
[ RELICS / FAMILIARS ]Kopesh – Nothing super special or sacred about it to her knowledge; just a weapon to defend herself if necessary.
Scroll of Thoth – This is the important one. The Scroll of Thoth never runs out, and has an endless length of papyrus to keep record on.
[ POWERS ]I. Translation: Kijani can understand all languages, even ancient ones. It was a definite surprise for her to wake up and be able to understand everything she heard on the subway going to the city.
II. Read Memory: Kijani can remember everything she reads, and then put it down later on the Scroll. It comes in handy for keeping track of things, especially conversations. Kijani could sit and write an entire dialogue happening between two people in a regular notebook, then put it on the Scroll for record. This skill is always “On” for lack of a better word. She hasn’t found a way yet to forget a book.
III. Paper Control: Kijani can control the density and strength of paper products. That means turning a book into the weight of a brick, or toilet paper into rope, so on and so forth. This is what she prefers to use for self defense, rather than the kopesh that she’s a bit afraid of.
[ INVOCATION ]Thoth’s invocation is twofold. When he appears, he speaks into every Communicator’s mind and allows them to conference mentally from miles and miles apart. The limits of this power (how many people, how far away, etc.) are currently unknown.
As the god of the moon, Thoth’s second ability involves the pull of gravity. He can increase and decrease gravity within a given space. This is definitely a more extreme power, and Kijani is not aware that this is even on the table.
[ OTHER INTERESTS/SKILLS ]Besides the obsessive reading, Kijani is skilled in various forms of dance. She is very physically flexible and does yoga and tai chi in her spare time.
