The Shift: A Human-to-Animal Shapeshifting RP

"As subtle as smacking someone in the face with a brick." A rather loud voice rang out among the depressing silence of the zoo, relatively near those that had gathered. Nearby in an overgrown tree, Darren rested leisurely ontop of some of the thickly twisted and connected branches. He was slung over them in a half-haphazardly manor, both legs slung over one side while his head and chest rested on another. His body was twisted in such a way that it couldn't have been comfortable for most people, especially with his face half-buried into the rough tree bark like that. But the man looked to be rather comfortable, at least to those who could actually see him. With his dark clothing on and such still motions, it was hard, if not impossible to see him in the tree. Though after a few moments he untwisted himself and sat upright, stretching with a soft, tired-sounding groan.

"I wasn't aware this was a meeting spot for people, if I had known it was, I might have just stayed away and gotten some shut-eye elsewhere. But its hard to find a place where it is so quiet, you know? Everything is so loud." A grumble escapes Darren as he promptly slides right off of the branches he had been resting upon, not even bothering to try and catch himself on any of the other branches. He lands with a rather heavy sounding thud, it was a decently sized drop, but he stood up with a slightly preterbed expression, mostly masked by his sunglasses. He does not lift his head or square his shoulders or anything of the such, showing absolutely no signs of aggression, not even in his voice.

"Meeting in an abandoned zoo is sort of creepy for normal people, so I figure there must be something important going on here. Are you all going to continue your chattering so I have to relocate my napping spot or is it safe for me to climb back into that tree?" Darren wasn't really looking at the other man or the girl with the streak in her hair, in fact, he didn't even have his eyes open yet. He just stood there, somewhat swaying on his feet while fighting off a rather ferocious yawn.

Name: Rai'adin Des'triage
Nickname: Rai
Gender: Male
Age: Appears to be in his late twenties
Magic User Type: Druid
Appearance: Rai'adin

Personality: Rai, mainly due to the fact that people avoid him often, has a rather solitary mindset. He does not mind being alone and finds more comfort with plants and animals than he does most people, as he knows they do not simply judge one based on their appearance. When getting past his loner tendencies, Rai is actually a rather pleasant fellow to be around. He is very accepting of others, no matter how twisted or monstrous others might see them. He is easy to laugh and a shoulder to cry on. He has a very, very soft spot for those that are weary down to their soul or unable to take care of themselves.

Powers: Communication with animals and plants, ability to adopt characteristics of them, even the power to change into them if he so chooses. Is able to draw out the life energy of the plants nearby to heal wounds, infection, and disease. Is able to release a paralyzing toxin from his skin, along with being able to spit the toxin from his mouth.

Skills/Talents: With his ability to communicate with plants, Rai is rather adept with alchemy. He can easily find the correct mixture of things to either make toxic poisons or very powerful medicine. Aside from his alchemy though, his only other really interesting trait is being able to carry a rather catchy tune and to sing. Though he does not sing often, not even when asked. While neither really a skill nor talent, most, if not all animals, tend to like him instinctively.

Equipment/Weapons: Rai does not really carry a lot of things with him, as he tends to gather anything he needs from nature. But on his person at all times he carries a small satchel that rests under the flap of his shirt, on his right hip. It is filled with various vials and occasionally rare herbs that he gathers and grows. It is the perfect size for him to carry around in any given form, too. Strapped across his back most of the time, he carries a rather odd bone-crafted staff. The staff is solid white and does not show any sun-bleaching despite the amount of time it is in the light. One end of it is rounded while the other has been shaped into a paddle, there re intricate etching all over it.

Bio: As a child, Rai was abandoned by his mother, who was unable to use magic and in fact was terrified that her son caused grass to sprout when he stepped on barren dirt. She left him deep within a forest, figuring some animal would come along and kill him. And he was in fact found by an animal, but one that happen to have been a druid that was living in the wild as a beast. Instead of killing the toddler, the other druid took pity upon him and took it upon herself to raise him. She kept him far from other humans for a long time while allowing him to freely explore and learn about himself and his magic.

After he gained a firm grasp upon his power, she often took him into the city with her while she traded animal hides for various other goods, giving him a good chance to meet with other humans and to see how they functioned within a city and the such. He never really liked the cities though, as he always found them to be too cramped and with too little plantlife or animals to be of any good. Though he did meet a few people that were very friendly to him, much despite his growing 'abnormalities'. If anything, people just seemed curious as to why he had plants growing in his hair and feathers sprouting off of his arms. But overall, they tended to just avoid him and the older druid.

By the time Rai was a teen, he did not need help taking care of himself any longer. He was fully able to change into a beast to protect himself and to hunt, he was able to commune with the plants and animals so naturally that even the older druid was a bit jealous. Satisfied that the child she had found and raised for most of his life would be able to survive on his own, she left him on his own without a word one evening and was never heard from again. While this bothered Rai a bit, he had already grown use to being on his own within the forest. So he merely continued to live as he had before, though his interactions with people grew a bit more frequent, especially once he began to learn alchemy.

Full Name: Reginheraht Fuchs
Nickname: 'Regi' , 'Rein'
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Appearance: Rein stands at roughly six foot two and appears to be a bit skinny for someone of his height.
Role: Linguistic Intelligence

Personality: With an insatiable love for all words spoken or written, Gin is an overly enthusiastic chatterbox that can be rather hard to shut up once he gets going about something he takes a great interest in. He is friendly enough, but is always very blunt and upfront about his thoughts, ideas, and emotions. He loves nothing more than when someone will sit and talk with him about things, especially their own passions and goals in life. His curiosity for language of all kinds often leaves him reading or writing alone, but it does not last very long. He cannot stand silence and needs constant background noise or companionship, otherwise he becomes rather fidgety and a bit neurotic.

History: Rein was born in Wolfsburg, Germany. He was born into a rather full household of seven people, all of them rather lively and a loud, diverse bunch. As the youngest child of such a household, he spent a good amount of time with each of his siblings and was never short of companionship while he was younger. They doted on him a lot and bought him anything he asked for, which was usually notebooks and novels. Because even though he could not read them yet, he knew he could get someone to read them to him.

For the most part, he did well in school, but none of it really held his interests and it lead to him skipping quite a bit of it. Though he was not stupid and could easy pass any of the classes if he wished, but he never saw a point in doing any of the work if he already knew it. Instead, he used his free time to study other things that he actually found amusing, like foreign and dead languages, even Egyptian hieroglyphics. Rein pretty much quit bothering with school after a time and devoted himself to his studies of language, only fueling his dream to one day be able to 'read anything and everything'.

Others: Usually carries around a laptop or a notebook, so he can write things as they pop into his head. It is not uncommon for him to be able to pull out a pencil or a pen from nowhere, either. His arms and clothing often have things scribbled down upon them, sometimes in different languages or in Morse code.

Darren

Name: Darren Kamato
Age: 27
Gender: Male

Shift into: Tiger

Appearance: Darren stands at roughly six foot five with a slim, yet muscled build. His hair appears black, though in the right light and if one looks carefully, there are tiny bits of orange and red. His eyes are a deep, sea green color.

Personality: Darren has a rather solitary mindset, he does perfectly well by himself and seems to enjoy time alone. But he does not push others away because of this, though he is somewhat reluctant to really get close to anyone. His trust is a difficult thing to obtain, but it is something one does not loose, even if it is betrayed. Towards those he has decided to trust, Darren is easily the friendliest, happiest fellow to be around, but he does not flirt. He loves a good laugh and loves to roughhouse and the alike, he can be either the best friend or loyal protector depending on the situation. To those he does not trust, though, Darren is a dangerous factor. He is a bit territorial over those he deems friends which can lead him to be overly aggressive and pushy towards strangers, or even those close to him if there is a conflict within the group that goes unresolved. Thankfully though, he rarely gets angry, having learned to control his more aggressive tendencies.

History: At the age of fifteen, Darren ran away from home, mostly for his parents convenience. They had discovered that he could turn into a tiger one evening after he had gotten hurt and became terrified of the 'monster' their son actually was. After leaving home with nothing more than an old cellphone and a few hundred dollars in his wallet, his 'free' lifestyle began. But it was not long after he was on the streets on his own that an elderly woman found him curled up in an ally corner, starving. But unlike his parents, the old woman did not fear him. In fact, she was worried about the young teenager that was far too skinny and beat up. She did not seem to mind the fact that he could turn into a tiger, in fact, she seemed to welcome it.

His life with the old woman was rather pleasant, he was able to walk between being a tiger and a human freely, as the home was large enough for his feline form. And anything he might have needed, the old woman happily bought him. And since her home was so far out in the country with no one else around for miles, he could run around outside as a tiger freely as well. He loved the sense of freedom he got, and since he was able to run around as he pleased, he was quite adept at hunting within his feline form. But all good things come to an end, eventually the old woman became very ill and died. Her grandson eventually arrived at her estate to find Darren in his feline form. And in his panic, having not really dealt with anyone aside from the old woman for nearly four years, he killed the grandson and fled from the home. He has been on the run since.

Other: Darren is not his real name, but it is the one he tells people to call him. Only a rare few know his true name.
