What would my character's position actually be called, at first I though "Raider," then I thought "Security Guard," but neither of those sounded right, so I stuck "General Infantryman" in there as well, though that doesn't sound much right either. Would "Marine" be a better term? What do you guys think?
See, I've given up, I really can't be bothered, I checked on here just now to see all this extra page worth of stuff and just thought "yea, no."
EDIT: Actually, one last thing: You really had to just show how much thought you put into your argument against me? I still think this is all really overdone for something that started with age to experience rationality and ship classification.
@WilsonTurnerWhen you talk about spacing, do you mean my CS, cause I'll space that out. Also, don't hate on meh sword, let's just say it's an NCO sword, as the Federal Armed Forces had some historical representation in them (as such is why there is also a flag in the middle of the battlefield.)
As for not arguing, just saying what I disagree with. I say this: "......"
As for everything else, TL;DR, sorry, not speaking on the whole ship thing. We aren't even going to see the ships anyway. Though I did skim it slightly, and pirates would engage ships of the navy, look at Somalia. :) (Though the idea of the pirates that I think of is from the indie game Faster Than Light, where as a military cruiser, you'll mainly either fight rebel scouts or pirates.)
Honestly though, I think I'm done with this debate. Can we just bury in the dirt please? Thank you.
EDIT: Read your post a bit more and noticed you mentioned FTL. -_- Now don't I look like a dingus.
@WilsonTurnerPlease, stop the arguing for crying out loud, its irrelevant and irate. As for the flamewar, take a joke and chill out about the whole 783 victories thing, who cares, its sci-fi. This doesn't exactly need to be representative of reality. We aren't going to bicker about your CS, so just leaves our to par. Don't take that to offense. "I speak of peace between us, no sort of war involved."
Here's an attempt at a character for you, let me here some thoughts. And yes, I know it's long-winded, and very much so.

Comment:
4 weeks into being stationed at Kislo, the Rebellion launched a full scale siege on the outer mining colony in attempts to secure a F.O.B. in the sector. The rebellion would bombard the Federal colony hoping to hit a refinery or fuel store and destroy use the explosion to cause collateral damage to the colonial defenses. On the 9th day of the siege, the rebels were landed on the ground with scouts. First Sergeant Erik Tan would lead Kiro Squad out of the Kislo colony behind enemy lines to ambush a rebel fireteam, steal their uniforms, secure their scout fighter, and fly it back to the Rebel Cruiser "Halin's Liberty" and overload its reactor, destroying the command ship of the Rebel ships sent to carry out the siege. The siege would be lifted, and Kislo would be safely under Federal monitoring once again. First Sergeant Erik Tan would receive a Federal Insignia of Valor for his grand example of strength and power along with the promotion from First Sergeant to Sergeant Major.
@WilsonTurnerI never said dreadnaughts were a form of battleship, I compared them to a battleship, that's about it. I never said fleets engaged a pirate ship, and a pirate ship can engage a scout vessel, even a light-cruiser if it felt so, depends on the pirate ship. A pirate ship could be anything, not just tiny little fighters and armed civilian ships. You make it seem like we can't move fast in space, this is supposed to be a far future, the ship the characters will be on uses lasers and faster than light warp drive. A ship could respond to a ship quickly and efficiently, especially if it is on standby, all it would need to do is align and jump to the situation. As for mobilization, if I may compare the ships in this reality to those in Halo, you can see how the Pillar of Autumn prepared itself for boarding in less than about 10 minutes, not to say they won, but that is irrelevant, and the Halo jump drives would be very rapid to charge and engage, they are also quick to charge in most other sci-fi games. As for weapons HITTING stuff, the weapons and all other systems have developed in proportion to the change of battlefield, lasers, tracking missiles, high-velocity ballistics, etc. High-grade ballistic tracking equipment already exists, so do ballistic predictors, so I can only assume they develop as well. As for his age, I suppose it is a bit young, but the situation of the equipment and the dreadnaught is fine, there's nothing wrong with it being called a dreadnaught, sounds better than battleship anyway. Though in a time of constant never ending war, there would be plenty of battles with the OPFOR, so I would assume he would be in combat at least 1 day a week, though I would find that as a commanding officer in the ranks, he would be constantly looking at a holoscreen commanding multiple battlegroups across a star system coordinating different battles all at one time, which would count him as the head commander of the battle. Generals can command multiple battles at once, so why can't this man? He would be leading multiple battles a day, for multiple days a week.
@WilsonTurnerMeh, dreadnaughts in space, completely different story, I'm pretty sure you could find that most sci-fi games, movies, etc. would have dreadnaughts as their heaviest ships (or super-carriers in terms of Halo, but shush.) As for a battle every 11 days, if the nation is in consistent war, I could believe that a battle occurred more than every 11 days, possibly an engagement twice a week. A battle doesn't have to be a fleet on fleet engagement, any form of engagement between his ship or a ship he commands vs. another would be a battle, even just one of his scout ships against a pirate boarder or something of that sort would be recorded in a file as its own battle.
