Everything had gone... weird. Only just a while ago, the clouds had been thick in the sky. Yet now, the sky had fallen, as if the weight of the world had pushed it downward.
What could this be a harbinger of? Rain? Or something worse?
He was being foolish, though. This was life, not some whimsical story. It just happened to be rather foggy, nothing more.
So why had he become so nervous? The world seemed to move, restless in its eerie tranquility, before ceasing again. Mihai'en had known instinct before, but never something on this level. This was primal, unsettling, and inhuman. This time, however, he knew it wasn't in his head. The forest itself had taken note, if only briefly. Creatures of all shapes and sizes stopped, and for what seemed like forever, the forest knew true silence.
He breathed.
Everything returned to normal.
Whatever it was, it didn't last long. The woods again picked up its routine, as if nothing had ever happened. Even Mihai'en felt a sense of relief, but he refused to stop listening. Sounds traveled, around him, from all manner of beasts that coloured the world around him. But another sound, harder to hear but much more distinct, found itself traveling on the winds. Quiet, almost a murmur, but sound nonetheless. Mihai'en turned to his companion. "Shiro, do you hear someone... talking?"
