"We knew the world would not be the same. Few people laughed, few people cried, most people were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad-Gita. Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty and to impress him takes on his multi-armed form and says, 'Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.' I suppose we all thought that, one way or another." - J. Robert Oppenheimer
There are stories about the origins of humanity. The given one, the one forwarded by the inquisitors, was that we were born amongst the stars and united into a coalition to form a single-minded collection of people. Some, however, know the truth of the matter - humanity wasn't born amongst the stars, they were born on the ground, crawling and climbing like the beasts that the inquisitors so diligently place themselves above. Our home was planet Earth, a little blue dot in a solar system on the outer rim of the Milky Way.
It was our home until we ravaged it with bombs and wars. A third world war began and nothing else followed. For the nations that weren't completely obliterated, Earth was quickly becoming uninhabitable. Weather patterns seemed to shift radically and it appeared that a winter was beginning that would finally snuff out the small flame of mankind. But we're a resourceful people and before we were wiped out entirely, we engineered some of the greatest machines in history - the Exodus ships. The ships were massive, more massive than anything mankind has built to date, and could house hundreds of thousands of people. Seven of them were made and launched into the deep abyss of space. Three reached their destinations and the other four seemed to disappear entirely.
New homes were found, colonised and made fit for humanity's survival. These new homes became Capital Worlds and from them, mankind jumped into the future, becoming an interstellar species. Great constructions called gravity anchors were dropped, allowing for rapid travel between star systems. We found enemies and friends yet through it all, we seemed to constantly edge forward, inch by inch.
That's where our story begins: the newly created Port Hope, the biggest space-station ever made by mankind, constructed to not only serve as a midway for trade ships but to house a large population. Although the port was controlled by the Inquisitors, a group of Zealots who fiercely upheld the idea of humanity being an interstellar species, life was good on it. It was a hub of trade and activity and most people were prosperous. All except you maggots, of course. Juvvies, they called you or the idiots that somehow ended up in juvenile detention for the rest of their childhood. The only reason you weren't executed like the rest of those caught by the law was because the law wanted to appear at least a little bit human. You turn eighteen, you get a repeat hearing and more often than not, you are taken out and executed. It doesn't matter your sin - murder or theft, rape or simply not being the same, you all end the same.
You got the wrong end of the stick with life and it's about to be cut short very soon. Or maybe, we could remember what it was to be human again. Maybe you lot might just have a chance? You'll just have to run when I say so.
And though you be done to the death, what then? If you battled the best you could, If you played your part in the world of men, Why, the Critic will call it good. Death comes with a crawl, or comes with a pounce, And whether he's slow or spry, It isn't the fact that you're dead that counts, But only how did you die? - Edmund Vance Cooke - How Did You Die?
Dear Prisoner #____
You, my lovely soul, are going to die. It won't be long now - the wheels of time shift ever onward and your time is coming worringly close. In three days time, the inquisitors will take fifty of you and begin experiments for the Cronus Project to increase the longevity of human life threefold. As these are the first human tests, the expected outcome is a rapid burst of vitality before inevitable death several hours after.
I have a proposition for you, my young friend. I believe time has had its sway for far too long and fate has gorged itself on the decadence of our society. Our people used to have a saying -c'est la vie- but life is more than simply death. You will know what to do.
- J
Earth is a distant memory, a past left long behind. Most don't even believe in it anymore and what was once our home faded into myth and legend until our memories are nothing more than hushed whispers. We've become an intergalatic species with the ability to move between worlds. The human empire has steadily battled onwards, colonising planet after planet until it has become a force to be reckoned with. At its helm is the Inquisitors - a group of Zealots hell-bent on furthering the human species, even if it means forgetting what it is to be human. Although the empire is led by a coalition of multiple parties, the Inquisitors have a deep trench of power and control most of the trade hubs, including your home - Port Hope. You were born on the port, either as a child of a noble tradesman or an honest technician. Most have never made planet-fall before and seen true nature. You grew up as any other child, going through the Inquisitor-approved education system to raise you into an upstanding citizen of the Port. Or, at least, that's what it was meant to do.
For whatever reason, you were arrested and after a quick trial, sentenced to incarceration for the rest of your young life. Criminality is put-down in the Port and the only thing that saved you from a similar fate was because the backlash of killing a child would be monumental. So, they wait until you are eighteen, give you a retrial and more often than not, you are then executed for crimes against the state.
That's how it used to be, anyways. The Inquisitors will do anything to forward humanity, even if it means killing a few children so as to increase the lifespan of the entire population. Project Cronus, as it was dubbed, is an experiment that each of you have been put forward for, unbeknownst to you. That is, until you received the strange message on the intercom in your cell. Whatever this person, J, wanted, you don't really care - if they can get you out of this hellhole then you'll comply. Whatever they have in plan for you is almost certainly better than death. So, when it finally does get to the beginning of Project Cronus, just like the voice said, fifty of your fellow inmates are removed from their cell and marched to seperate quarters. On the way there, however, the Port goes into a blackout with critical failure in all areas. Most of the guards rush off after a quick order on the radio and the remaining two don't look very motivated.
Like three days prior, the voice returns, telling you to get past the guards and get to one of the nearby hangers. However you do it, you get past the guards and get to the hanger where a lone ship, the Auburn Liberty is waiting. Once everyone is strapped in, the ship, acting under some sort of autopilot, leaves the hanger immediately. After almost an hour of travel, everyone begins to feel woozy until finally, each of the escapees fall into a sleep with the last image of glass panels descending over you.
The Inquisitors are a group of zealots that believe that the past is irrelevant and the future is the only path. They have a massive amount of power which is mainly derived from their iron-hard military and fighters. Most people hold them to be protectors of humanity and although their decisions can sometimes cast a harsh light on them, the public still align themselves with their way of life. Although they don't have direct control over the Human Empire, they control vast swathes of territory and most trade routes meaning they're a very large force to be reckoned with. The majority of their social hierarchy is made up of common soldiers which carry out the laws of the Inquisitors. The actual Inquisitors originated from a group of fanatical technocrats who believed that physical perfection could only be reached through progression and technology. These warriors implemented biotech into their bodies to become physically supreme and became some of the most feared fighters in the galaxy.
The Inquisitors are currently trying to forward Project Cronus to increase the length of the human lifespan but extensive testing is required before general administration. They're also trying to implement an act to have mandatory couplings between young adults so as to produce stronger generations of children.
There are a range of offences that can result in spending the rest of your young life in prison and ultimately, execution. These include but are not limited to:
Murder
Theft
Sexual Assault
Manslaughter
Defamation
Homosexuality
Systems Tampering
Drugs & Narcotics (both dealing and using)
Illegal Biotech Upgrades
Ohhhhhh, mysterious! I wonder what could go hereeee!
I like having some level of trust in my RPers so I won't make this extensive, just the basic stuff:
Respect each other. I know people may have disagreements but remain friendly and respectful at all times!
Keep the drama in the IC please!
The GM and Co-GM are here to help, if you need anything at all don't be afraid to reach out to us. Similarly, I AM THE LAW! (and so is the Co-GM... kinda?)
As per guild rules, if there is any sexy times then just fade to black or take it to PMs. Apart from that, I demand awkward relationships - they're a bunch of teenagers that have been locked up for the past few years. What do you think they'll do!?
If you're gonna be away, have some writer's block or you're just not in the mood to write, just say it to us! We won't bite... Promise. I'm not liable if Smarty bites... He does that on occassion. Also be warned, I'm fairly certain c3p is poisonous so...
The main one - have fun! Sounds corny but seriously, it's the reason why we do these things so enjoy it!
Pro-tips: 1. If you copy the template into microsoft word and replace "???" with "(your colour choice)", you save the hassle of changing it all 2. Instead of just using entering your character's name, you can put it in a cool and stylish font at 1001fonts.com for only £9.99. Very nice!
I'll put "*"s to show where these fonts can be entered! (Just remove everything between the "*"s and put in an image thingy!) Note: Remove these stars from the CS when finished! 3. Remove the . part of the [ . hr ] to make it work! C:

[sub]This part is optional but you can include a little bit about your character. Just a basic synopsis of their intentions and a little glimpse of their background. This is used for someone who just wants to peek through character sheets so they can see the range of characters! (Entirely optional though and keep it to about 2-3 lines)[/sub]
