Just so you'll understand how this fight will go:
The katana is much sharper, but with one blunt side, whereas the broadsword has both sides blunted. However, both can cut through bone equally well. Katanas rely on speed, whereas the broadsword relies on brute strength and force (of which Phoenix has plenty- she is RIPPED). Both are two handed.

(Interestingly, they were invented and developed at the same time, on opposite sides of the world...)

That's how you're trained in the military, in the middle of whatever, you pay attention to that which is vital. Anything directly related is secondary, anything else, tertiary.

No, Rose is only paying attention to a few key elements- Uprising's body, Tess (as she had a visible power), and access points/entrances and exits. Otherwise, she wouldn't be able to adequately control the situation.

She doesn't know that your character has healing abilities, how could she? She's been focused on solely protecting people and kicking ass, and player knowledge is not character knowledge.

The Phoenix spotted Tess as she collapsed to the ground, just as a smoke bomb went off by the security guard to whom she had entrusted the body of Uprising. Putting her priorities in order without a second's hesitation, Rose expanded her wings behind her so as to remain aerodynamically stable as she ran towards Tess. Upon reaching the girl, she picked her up, and held her between both of her arms a la Pietà. She swept her wings downward, taking off into the air as soon as they were out of the mall, continuing in pursuit of Dean and Uprising. Once in the air, she spoke to Tess, reassuringly.

"I'll take care of you once we've taken care of these two."

She flew through the air, without flapping her wings even once, gliding smoothly with the wind. Quickly approaching a speed of 40 mph, she overtook Dean, and quickly overtaking Dean as he ran, and landed softly a few meters in front of him. Setting Tess down on a car, she turned to face Dean as he approached. She held out her left hand in front of her, placing her right hand on the hilt of her sword, while expanding her wings to their full length to discourage Dean from running any further.

"Stop running. Set the boy down, and you may be on your way."

Casting a sideward glance towards Tess, she silently prayed to any god that might be listening that she wouldn't have to fight the boy. A one sided blade versus a broadsword would not be a fair fight, no matter the skills of the wielders.

Appearance:
Her entire body, and her eyes, is a pinkish-red, kind of like the color of a rose-wine. Save for her raven hair. It is pulled back into a long braid that reaches past her knees. She stand about 5'4'', and while is not very impressively tall, she is broad shouldered and well toned. She dresses in red jean-shorts, and tends to favorer a simple-red tank-tops that have big 'R' on the center in white. Heavy, leather, combat boots and leather fore-arm-armor. Her gem is a square cut on her right shoulder.

Personality:
Some see her as a 'mother bear' type, and it is easy to see why. She enjoys being active and productive, it is rare to find Balas simply 'doing nothing' when she can be doing something useful or giving aid to another. She has a hands-on nature that make her seems to have a bit of an 'warrior of old' kind of persona. Often laughing and smiling, even in the heat of battle, and does not shy from combat. But when the going gets rough and the danger truly significant, Balas's energetic smile will fade away and she will demonstrate a very focused, deadly serious nature, revealing a much more no-nonsense side of her more similar to a battle commander. She does not tolerate serious threats to her allies lightly and will be the last willing to leave a fight to ensure other have a full chance to retreat.

Bio:
Balas Ruby is a very old 'foot soldier' gem, even by many gem standards. So much so that those of the same type as her are no longer called balas rose but 'Rose Spinel'. Long and faithfully she had been a warrior of the home world, for countless millennia she lived on the Gem's front lines until the stood as a dominate and rarely challenged force in their part of the universe. From there she had been reassigned to security detail on Kindergarten projects. She didn't only think that working as a guard was a waste of her abilities but she didn't like the results of the Kindergarten program. She always had half a mind to do something about it but she was but a single warrior, not a leader or strategist, and didn't believe she was able to convince others to follower her lead. But lucky for her, someone else came along. Rose Quarts.

She gladly joined the crystal gems in defense of this planet, and fought fiercely on their behalf of the crystal gems until, and she can't quite remember how, she was corrupted and became a horrible worm monster, as adult steven explained to her after she had been restored. She was pleased to once more give her skills in service to the earth and the crystal gems.

A bearded ax. Normally appearing as a massive, pinkish-red, two-handed bearded Axe. The pole nearly longer as she is. The full length of the blade of her ax head is foot and a half. She can shrink it down to a smaller, single handed bearded ax when speed is more important than power.

Sonic wave generation: Balas demonstrates the ability to produce powerful sonic waves. Allowing her to release powerful short range bursts of sonic energy from her hands or ax, or much more powerful, larger bursts from her mouth as a roar like blast.

She really enjoys shiny things, especially red shiny things, and her personal space is often filled with various trinkets of the sort

I'll work on her today, and see what I can do with her! Apparently the cost for a commission like this is $20 to $25, according to my more accomplished friends. But really, pay whatever you think it is worth.
