Current My roleplay is all tabletop these days, and the part of the guild I used to hang out in doesn't exist anymore. To my friends from this site, I will think of you, and maybe I'll see you again someday.

To my friends from chat: I guess I'll see you around, since I'm still not using discord.

I don't actively RP on the site these days, but I might be convinced to come back if there's a cool fantasy or sci-fi group RP that can capture my interest. Catch me on Second Life, Wildstar, or Chat.

My life has gotten really chaotic. I'll be back to RPing when I can.

I need a good generic fantasy RP, but I can't find one.

Personally, I like doing the old "roll down the line" where you don't pick which score goes in which stat, and you have to figure out a character and a class that fits the scores you rolled.

I like the idea of that, but I've never seen it actually work. Every time I've seen a group try it, it's always resulted in a hilarious bunch of cripples.

EDIT: except for that one ex-friend of mine who fudged his rolls.
Just saying, point buy is the more fair and balanced system. And with our GM, it wasn't "let's shake things up", it was "If you keep doing the same damn thing over and over I'm going to do something about it".

Haste is all well and good until your abuse of it draws the attention of a subset of the Inevitables from Mechanus who have come to stop someone from bending the flow of time. Also not fun contracting a magical illness that accelerates the aging of your character.
That last comment was really more in reference to the guy I used to play with. I haven't talked with you enough to get a fair picture of your playstyle, so I'm not at this point going to pretend that I can accurately guess the reasoning behind your decisions. Just saying that this guy I used to play with, that was exactly how he played- coming up with the numbers first and only later trying to wrap a character around them.

I'd still like to point out the point buy system and the fact that it's more fair- running the two sets of ability scores that have been generated so far, we have one character who's abilities total 19 points, and one who's abilities total 36 points. It's a pretty massive power discrepancy, and situations like that are why most groups I know have gone to point buy.

Most GMs I have run across require a lot more than that kind of tactic, they generally try to push their players more and make people think outside the box while also having the core bases covered. That is why I am giving us basic caster support and a meat shield with either class I picked as we lacked both.

Same for me, and I think that's part of the reason I like wizards more- usually, if our party just got into a routine for "do stuff this way, you win again", our DM would come up with ways that forced us to do something differently. Spam haste for most fights? He'd find some way to make that stop being optimal. It's no fun if it's just routine.
With that kind of powergaming, you sound exactly like this guy I used to play D&D with.

I don't play tabletop RPGs with him anymore, since he's more interested in trying to abuse the system as opposed to making a fully fleshed out character.

Personally I think that when you decide what class you want to play before you decide what kind of personality you want your character to have, you're doing roleplaying wrong.
Yeah I don't play Sorcerers either- I prefer wizards. I just don't like having a permanently limited spell pool- I'd rather have to do a bit of planning and have a vast array of options, rather than only having a couple of tricks I can throw a lot.

Clerics and Oracles have the same weapon proficiencies, armors, and HD

Hm, was under the mistaken impression that clerics could use heavy armour. I guess that's either a 3.5 rule or else I just misremembered.

Either way, I really hate the whole "only know a few spells but cast them a lot" style that Oracles have, so I won't be touching that class with a ten foot pole.

I think oracles have an actual voodoo thing.I hate you

I just like that Clerics can also actually get in to some melee fights and such, and I just generally prefer the rules set for clerics.

Also, a case can be made for point buy rather than die rolls!

Also, just went and read up on oracles- ew, sorcerer style casting. I really hate having a tiny spell pool, I pretty much never play sorcerers.
Out of curiosity, why are you doing dice rolls instead of point buy? I'm a fan of point buy since it puts everyone on equal footing to start off.

I have an idea for a character that would fit fairly well into this- a lizardman voodoo witchdoctor (just a cleric mechanically, though I've got some voodoo-themed custom spells that I'd like to run by you). Only thing is that lizardfolk tend to not be available in a level one start- would it be possible for me to join the party after they gain a few levels so that I don't unbalance things?

Edit: actually, found this, would this be an acceptable racial breakdown for playing a Lizardfolk?

I'm playing through Enemy Within again. I have pseudo-ironman, in that I have autosave on and my computer is crap so the game crashes ALL THE TIME and I have to load my autosave.
That's Paracom, baby!
