I have a chronic addiction to creating more and more characters until I overwhelm myself. I've now stopped myself from making 4 new separate characters. Help me.

@CoyoteLovely Maybe I myself don't want to escape it... But my job and my social life may not appreciate it. Oh well! I guess I have no choice but to keep roleplaying!

Getting back into RP'ing is like a black hole. You put one toe in and the next thing you know you've been sucked down into it with no hope of escape.

@A Lowly Wretch Sounds great! I'm just waiting maybe one more day before I make a decision to either move forwards, or to possibly give this more exposure. In the meantime I can answer any questions you have!

APPEARANCE
"Yeah I get it, I'm not that scary. Why the hell would I want to be?"
Everett, otherwise known as Griffin, makes every effort to appear to be the most undiscriminating and friendly fellow you'd ever meet. Nothing about him is particularly imposing thanks to his average height, and while his build may be particularly stocky and muscular it's simply hard to find yourself feeling even somewhat uneasy around his shorter stature and winning smile. His eyes hold a dark green that could almost be directly compared to the color of pine needles and his dark obsidian-black hair coupled with his olive colored skin gives him a laid back and calming persona. If you were to look at him it would be easy to tell that while he's comfortable in the way he looks, he truly doesn't care too much about outward appearances. His long curly locks always seem to just barely be hanging over his eyes and the only way he seems to be able to tame the black mop upon his head is to stuff most of it beneath the dark brown beanie he's never seen without. His features, while fairly firm cut, are nothing to take special notice of and if anyone was honest the only thing that truly stands out from Griffin is the bright smile he carries with him. His clothing, just like the rest of him, remains non-descript as he only wears whatever he feels like is necessary for the day. He'll wear simple jeans and a t-shirt, sometimes even a nice jacket if he feels like it but other than this one could never identify him from just his clothing. The only true constant is that he always wears the same colors: dark browns, blacks, and greens. One simple scar runs across his neck although he never acknowledges it and simply laughs off any questions about the particularly nasty looking mark. Because he always wears longer sleeved shirts, most don't know that he has an entire sleeve of tattoos up his right arm although he doesn't intentionally hide them, and whenever asked about them he simply states that they're of 'personal nature' and leaves it at that.
PSYCHOLOGY
"It's not that I'm being too nosy, I swear. I just... Hate not knowing if something's wrong."
MAIN GOAL ⫻ Griffin lives by one motto: No plight goes ignored. He has a bleeding heart, and he wears it for all too see. His job, his education, everything takes a backseat to his one goal and only serves to help him achieve it. PHILOSOPHY ⫻ Griffin thinks that the world is unfair, and its cruel nature chooses who gets to feel pain with no reason. To him, the fact that so many people in the world are hurting and others are simply living their lives unaffected by this is a cruel trick of fate from the universe. If someone can help, they should help no questions asked. Never should someone be left on the side of the road because whatever biased Gods exist decided to screw one person in particular over. The very fact that he's able to live his life without all the suffering others endure means, at least to him, that it's his responsibility to help carry others burdens.
SECRETS ⫻ Griffin chooses to hide the true reason he's chosen to help people. Many believe it's due to his sisters murder, however he will never admit that he blames himself for her death. He's also terrified of anyone finding out that he robbed the local convenience store when in high school, and was never caught for it.
DESIRES ⫻ Griffin wants to see pain stop happening to good people, and in his eyes anyone who doesn't want to hurt others is good. If he believes someone is intentionally hurting others, he sees that as the ultimate evil.
SEXUALITY ⫻ Griffin is as straight as an arrow. Truthfully he doesn't care about if someone else chooses to be attracted to anyone, to him he just prefers it the old fashioned way.
FEARS ⫻ Griffin fears rejection. Nothing made him feel more powerless then when he learned his sister died while he had done nothing, and he's terrified that if someone rejects his help it will happen again.
REPUTATION ⫻ Griffin is the quintessential "Good Guy" of the town. Most people know him, they all know if they ask for help he'll be there, and he's always kind. The only problem with this is that it's then quite easy to take advantage of him, and everyone knows if they need a sap to manipulate, Griffin is their guy.
PET PEEVES ⫻ Bullies, bad music taste, and know-it-alls. Also people who use the word 'literally' incorrectly.
QUIRKS ⫻ Griffin loves to go silent and observe the world for a little while. This often leads to some people growing slightly uncomfortable as he simply stops talking and begins to watch.
BACKSTORY
"Everyone has something that they're ashamed of. We can either let it remind us of who we are, or destroy us."
Griffin loves to pretend his life is perfect, and there's nothing going wrong in his life at all. For the most part this is true but he's hiding from one horrible truth: he let his sister die. The two of them grew up in a relatively safe childhood, and were always the closest of siblings despite their larger age difference. Griffin loved his sister more than anything in the world, and even as they grew into adults he always cherished her and supported her in everything she did. Then, one night, on the night he turned 18 he received a call from his parents explaining that his sister had been murdered. Over the next few weeks they found that she had been in abusive relationship, and one night her boyfriend had gotten too far down the bottle and had lost control before going into a drunken rage. The idiot never realized what he was doing and by the time he came to his senses, it was too late and there was blood on his hands. To Griffin this destroyed everything he had thought about the world... And he would always remember the fact that his sister had told him only a week prior that she was beginning to grow worried about her boyfriend and his destructive tendencies.
"Give him one more week. Just one more. I'm sure you'll see it's all fine." He had told her, knowing that a break up would only cause his sister more stress at the time. That event changed everything for him. The world was cruel, and chaotic. His sister had been a good person and she had been beaten to death in her very home. Never again would he stand by and ignore a call for help like that. Hopefully, some day, he would recover from the shame of not protecting her. Telling her to stay with her boyfriend is his greatest kept secret, and he won't ever tell anyone of that mistake. Ever since this event he's shaped his life by it. Every tattoo upon his body is a work in progress, reminding him of every-time he tried to help someone, no matter how small. Each time he feels like he may have made a difference he goes to get another mark upon his skin, slowly growing the sleeve of ink.
From then on he set out into the town in order to force himself into avoiding self pity. He got a job, he paid his bills, he bought his own place... Anything to keep him busy in-between going out to do his usual charity. Eventually, he hopes that if he does enough good deeds he'll be able to push passed the loss of his sister.
SKILLS & TALENTS
"Jack of all Trades doesn't really suit me... I'm kind of only good at one or two things ya' know? And then I'm decent at the rest."
[Athletics] ⫻ Griffin loves to run. He played football in highschool and although those days are behind him he'll never be able to shake his love of the sport. Because of this he's maintained his strength, still runs in the mornings, and has decent hand-eye coordination. It's certainly nothing to truly boast about however it does keep him in decent shape, and he takes a silent pride in the fact that he was always the fastest in morning warm ups.
[Mechanics] ⫻ As his occupation, Griffin works with cars at the local shop. Fixing them, washing them, changing the tires or simply giving them a new paintjob he's learned to do most of it in his time working there. It's certainly not his greatest passion however he does enjoy it and works hard there. Even though he won't admit it, he has quite a knack for anything mechanical and proves to be incredibly talented with the machinery.
[People Skills] ⫻ The only thing truly remarkable about Griffin's skills are his abilities to understand people. He can read emotions with the best of them, he always seems to have an encouraging word for those who need it, and he can easily tell when someone is hurting. The only thing that seems to be beyond him is his ability to tell lies from truth, as he has an unrealistic faith in the people he communicates with and simply can't admit that they may not have the best intentions.
ABSTRACTION
"I always thought I was good at walking in peoples shoes but this is ridiculous."
SIGIL & LOCATION ⫻ His sigil rests directly on the left side of his chest, just above his heart. It's shape seems to be two circles, one black and one grey, both circling each other and about to touch however they are just out of reach, much like an incomplete ying-yang.
ABSTRACTION ⫻ Astral Projection: Allows Griffin to leave his body to walk the land as an invisible ghost
ABSTRACTION DESCRIPTION ⫻ Astral Projection allows Griffin to entirely abandon his physical form and roam the earth in an invisible, incorporeal form. When he does this his own body grows unconscious and will remain that way until he chooses to return to it. While in this form he has the ability to freely walk through objects, fly, and even communicate with other Awakened so long as he chooses to allow them to be able to see him. The form does have limitations however as he's entirely unable to interact with any sort of physical objects unless he chooses to enact the second part of this ability, which is Astral Possession. By doing this he can enter someone elses body and see through their eyes while also feeling what they feel. He can communicate with them though telepathy and even somewhat affect their senses however he cannot in any way control them, their actions, or their decisions. He is simply a passenger along for the ride, and other Awakened can choose to remove him if they have enough time to concentrate on the task. When possessing another Awakened he also proves to be able to hone in their concentration for them, allowing them to think faster and even somewhat amplify their own abilities.
IN THE PRESENCE OF THE MOUNTAIN ⫻ When near the mountain, Griffin gets an entirely new set of abilities compared to his regular Astral Projection. When in this state he can leave his body and freely interact with the physical world around him just as his regular body might. Beyond this, he now can fully possess people, however if they choose to reject him he finds it difficult to control them. AURA SENSING ⫻ Griffin can sense anyone in pain, whether physically or mentally, so long as he's within the range of vision of them. The stronger the pain and the more likely he is to sense it quickly. His only other ability is to sense when people are truly happy.

Okay! Here's my first draft, I hope you guys like it! Let me know if you want me to change anything!
Okay wow. I'm busy reading everything now and I just have to say right now, I'm very impressed. A lot of detail and love went into this project and I'm getting super-hyped to get involved just while looking at it. It's gonna be a small while for me to post my character sheet, mostly because I'm already swarming with ideas and I really want to put a lot of care into this one. Hopefully I'll post mine in the next hour or two.
But still, seriously good job to all of this. So glad that you posted the recruitment page.
@BingTheWing I didn't wanna go into that in the original post since it was so darn long already, but good question! America and and Asia both were largely unaffected from the Crisis, and so the two of them banded together in sending support to other countries. Eventually, them and a few other select areas that had avoided too much damage were what really spearheaded the creation of the Order.
@Sep Thanks for noticing! I spent the better part of my night on this one. I've really wanted to make a roleplay out of this for a while and this was the first time I got the courage to see if people liked it.
The World Must Have Been a Very Different Place Before the Sky Broke...
It's funny how much the unknown can scare people to death. They would rather pretend that a mystery doesn't exist at all rather than admit the fact that they're clueless about the universe. It was once thought that humans were pioneers, brave explorers, fearless in the face of the task to learn all there was to learn about the world around them. They considered themselves an unstoppable force and the only thing that could hold them back was their own lack of willpower failing to propel them to even higher and more incredible heights. They were a powerful force that nothing could reckon with, until they were all shown the harsh reality of the truth: they lived in a world where they were powerless, and somethings could never be understood.
It all started when the sky broke. Above Russia, to be exact. Without warning a massive crack appeared upon the horizon, shining with a brilliant blue light that blazed in the night sky the like the Aurora Borealis. It covered the entire skyline of the tiny town it had appeared above and terrified absolutely everyone. There were accusations of attack, terrorism, aliens... But soon after one day, then two, then three days passed they begun to become fascinated by what seemed to be a harmless and unexplored phenomenon. People described it as if there was suddenly light pouring out of a fissure that broke the clouds, and for a while that was the only news story anyone talked about around the world. Researchers and respected scientists came from around the globe over the next few weeks to study it, and soon they deemed that it wasn't dangerous. It was something for the entire world to fixate on, and to fall in love with it's incredible beauty... And then it vanished. Just like that, gone. Twenty-four hours later, another opened in Brazil. This one stayed for a month just as the last, and the world tried to study and understand it with no avail before it disappeared after thirty days. The next one appeared in Africa and at that point things turned from fascination and playful joking about what people had become to call 'the Rifts' to something much more sinister. Suddenly people began to ask why these Rifts had such a firm pattern, why there were here... And what they could be doing. Every government in the world began to send people to study this Rift as quickly as possible and yet nothing anyone did to try and determine its secrets seemed to work. According to any sort of sensors or scans from their machines, the Rift didn't exist. They learned absolutely nothing about what was becoming an impossible mystery.
The Rift continued to follow it's pattern of only staying for a month, this time opening up above Britain. Once it disappeared this time however, it opened back up above Russia once again. For the next year the world watched as it continued its pattern over and over again... Russia, Brazil, Africa, Britain, again and again as the world was becoming forced to face the fact that they didn't know what it was, or what it meant. However they didn't seem to be dangerous, and so the general public began to move on. For nearly a year nothing changed and the newfound phenomenon was all but passed as an occasional side-note to the average onlooker. That was then things began to change. Odd news stories began to pop about grisly murderers, impossible crimes, and horrifying accidents. At first they were brushed off and largely ignored, that was until things were suddenly proven to be impossible to avoid taking notice of when the entire world was forced to watch as a hulking beast was shown on live broadcast absolutely destroying a small town within Brazil. After this everything began to go from bad, to worse. Humans began to appear all over the world with vastly different and terrifyingly powerful abilities that defied the laws of physics and nature itself. Some could fly, others controlled the very world around them, and the entire world saw them begin to appear from no where. It didn't take long for people to realize that those who were gaining these abilities were all connected in one way: every single one of them were beneath the Rifts when they first opened. Soon these superhumans, who were quickly deemed 'Rifters' by the media, began to be subjected to hunts from the terrified people who knew nothing of these strange new abilities. Most of these people were terrified, and had no intention of ever harming anyone however that all ended now. The world was in a state of terror and it would never be the same again.
The RolePlay
Okay! Sorry about the long slab of text up there, but I wanted to sort of set the world I wanted to have this Roleplay in. The idea is that the actual roleplay will be set 8 years after the first Rift's opening within Russia. A large war broke out between the Rifters and the Governments of the world, and it lasted nearly an entire year. For the most part, the Rifters began to band together to fight back against the world for attempting to hunt them down although a few did attempt to remain peaceful and resist the war. Unfortunately, the Rifters were far superior to anything the worlds governments had thanks to their newfound abilities and the world truly didn't stand a chance. That changed however, when the world created what was known as 'The Order'. It was essentially a global super-force made of the the entire worlds most powerful Governments, and with the world now bound together under one name they were able to work hand-in-hand to eventually defeat the Rifters with sheer numbers and advanced tactics. Once this had been done, the Rifters were forced to sign a peace-accords which essentially stated that they could live in peace so long as they stayed within the boundaries given to them by the Order, and that they never returned or they would be destroyed. Because of this, every single one of the Rifters who had sided against the Order were forced to live within Britain due to the entire country having been heavily damaged and nearly destroyed from an incredibly powerful Rifter who had used the ocean to flood the entire land mass temporarily. The roleplay is set within Britain, where things are far from perfect however the Rifters have since begun to make a life for themselves. They've mostly split into smaller factions based on their ethnicity, however aside from occasional turf wars and harassment from some of the smaller gangs which have cropped up, they've created a fairly decent community based around their abilities. The Role Play will be pretty free-form, with only some guiding on the plot, but truthfully I just want to see what people do with this idea!
The Rifts
Every single Rift is unique in the type powers it gave when it first opened, and the Rift only gives its powers once. If someone was underneath it the first time it ever opened, they could gain abilities, however if they were underneath it the second time they would receive nothing. People from the same Rifts can receive different types of abilities, however they all fit a certain theme based on the Rifts. Everyone is unique in their abilities, so even if two people have powers which are similar in theme they both have ways of using them that would be different to the other.
The Russian Rift
The Russian Rift is the most baffling to the worlds scientists, as it grants people what appears to be the ability to defy the laws of physics. Whether this is manipulating gravity, ignoring the effects of gravity, warping energy, or teleportation these people seem to entirely ignore fundamental laws of nature. There has even been one or two extremely rare demonstrations of Rifters being able to have incredibly limited manipulation of time, although it seems that they can only see through time. None have been able to truly control it.
The Brazil Rift
The Brazilian Rift is quite possibly the single most prevalent reason of why the Rifters almost won the war. It seems that the Rift gave people animalistic tendencies and abilities, giving them the name 'Hybrids'. These people seemed to have been fused with particular animals and are given abilities that animals may have, but on a far superior scale. For example if there were a hybrid of a snake, their venom would be far more deadly then any known species. The reason this Rift is so infamous however, is because of certain hybrids known as 'Titans'. These hybrids have gone entirely feral, and have appearances much closer to that of their animal parts then their human parts. They are impossibly strong, terrifyingly deadly, and seem to heal from the deadliest wounds. Most were killed within the Rifter wars, and now the only ones that are left were those which somehow managed to reign in their feral tendencies.
The African Rift
The African Rift is certainly the most mysterious and unexplored of all the Rifts, mostly due to the reclusive nature of those who come from this area. From what has been studied, it seems that this Rift has granted people the ability to manipulate their own bodies and minds. It has been studied that people from this Rift show powers of telekinesis, superior strength, shapeshifting, and mental telepathy. Often times people avoid those from these Rifts due to the fact that they simply know little about them. It is common knowledge however that the Order was able to enlist a few from this Rift in order to take down the few Titans who remained un-killable after the war.
The Britain Rift
The Britain Rift is the most common and most diverse of all the Rifts. Because it opened up above the largest population, this Rift has seen the most use of its powers. It appears to allow its users to control and manipulate the eco-sphere and nature itself in incredible ways. From controlling earthquakes and levitating stones, to causing storms and summoning waves of the ocean these people can use the earth around them as a weapon and a tool, and each is unique in their abilities to be able to do this.
Okay so that's basically all I have! It's been a long time since I've been on this site, and every time I've tried to come back I've basically overwhelmed myself. So I decided to simply make one roleplay I could dedicate to and hopefully make a a good community out of! Please let me know if you're interested, have any questions, or want to know more! Thanks for reading!
Derric stayed on the floor, essentially unwilling to move at this point. He had come to the conclusion that his concussion was worse than he thought, and the bright flashing light was simply a by-product of his attempting to work out so soon after receiving a head injury. He stayed there for several minutes as he contemplated whether it was worth the effort or not to pick himself off of the floor before he felt a presence at the door. The presence had the same feel as the one he had felt on the bed earlier... Or even before that, the one he had felt before the fighting tournament.
Deciding to figure things out once and for all, he stood up and carefully made his way towards where he felt this strange phenomenon, which in this case was the door. "I know you're there!" He called hesitantly, unsure if he would receive an answer or not.
