I have a chronic addiction to creating more and more characters until I overwhelm myself. I've now stopped myself from making 4 new separate characters. Help me.

@CoyoteLovely Maybe I myself don't want to escape it... But my job and my social life may not appreciate it. Oh well! I guess I have no choice but to keep roleplaying!

Getting back into RP'ing is like a black hole. You put one toe in and the next thing you know you've been sucked down into it with no hope of escape.

The OOC is now open! If you guys are still interested, feel free to take a look! There should be much more information here now.

It's funny how much the unknown can scare people to death. They would rather pretend that a mystery doesn't exist at all rather than admit the fact that they're clueless about the universe. It was once thought that humans were pioneers, brave explorers, fearless in the face of the task to learn all there was to learn about the world around them. They considered themselves an unstoppable force and the only thing that could hold them back was their own lack of willpower failing to propel them to even higher and more incredible heights. They were a powerful force that nothing could reckon with, until they were all shown the harsh reality of the truth: they lived in a world where they were powerless, and somethings could never be understood.

It all started when the sky broke. Above Russia, to be exact. Without warning a massive crack appeared upon the horizon, shining with a brilliant blue light that blazed in the night sky the like the Aurora Borealis. It covered the entire skyline of the tiny town it had appeared above and terrified absolutely everyone. There were accusations of attack, terrorism, aliens... But soon after one day, then two, then three days passed they begun to become fascinated by what seemed to be a harmless and unexplored phenomenon. People described it as if there was suddenly light pouring out of a fissure that broke the clouds, and for a while that was the only news story anyone talked about around the world. Researchers and respected scientists came from around the globe over the next few weeks to study it, and soon they deemed that it wasn't dangerous. It was something for the entire world to fixate on, and to fall in love with it's incredible beauty... And then it vanished. Just like that, gone. Twenty-four hours later, another opened in Brazil. This one stayed for a month just as the last, and the world tried to study and understand it with no avail before it disappeared after thirty days. The next one appeared in Africa and at that point things turned from fascination and playful joking about what people had become to call 'the Rifts' to something much more sinister. Suddenly people began to ask why these Rifts had such a firm pattern, why there were here... And what they could be doing. Every government in the world began to send people to study this Rift as quickly as possible and yet nothing anyone did to try and determine its secrets seemed to work. According to any sort of sensors or scans from their machines, the Rift didn't exist. They learned absolutely nothing about what was becoming an impossible mystery.

The Rift continued to follow it's pattern of only staying for a month, this time opening up above Britain. Once it disappeared this time however, it opened back up above Russia once again. For the next year the world watched as it continued its pattern over and over again... Russia, Brazil, Africa, Britain, again and again as the world was becoming forced to face the fact that they didn't know what it was, or what it meant. However they didn't seem to be dangerous, and so the general public began to move on. For nearly a year nothing changed and the newfound phenomenon was all but passed as an occasional side-note to the average onlooker. That was then things began to change. Odd news stories began to pop about grisly murderers, impossible crimes, and horrifying accidents. At first they were brushed off and largely ignored, that was until things were suddenly proven to be impossible to avoid taking notice of when the entire world was forced to watch as a hulking beast was shown on live broadcast absolutely destroying a small town within Brazil. After this everything began to go from bad, to worse. Humans began to appear all over the world with vastly different and terrifyingly powerful abilities that defied the laws of physics and nature itself. Some could fly, others controlled the very world around them, and the entire world saw them begin to appear from no where. It didn't take long for people to realize that those who were gaining these abilities were all connected in one way: every single one of them were beneath the Rifts when they first opened. Soon these superhumans, who were quickly deemed 'Rifters' by the media, began to be subjected to hunts from the terrified people who knew nothing of these strange new abilities. Most of these people were terrified, and had no intention of ever harming anyone however that all ended now. The world was in a state of terror and it would never be the same again.

The actual Roleplay of When the Sky Broke will be set 8 years after the Rift War. At this point, the World is very happily living under the new rule of the Order, and the Rifters are attempting to make a life for themselves within Britain. It will (obviously) focus on the Rifters as they make their lives in their different factions and how they live their lives. I plan for the plot to be fairly complex and to have a decent amount of intertwining plot lines so unless you're prepared to try and keep up, I would suggest maybe not joining this roleplay. That being said, I will only be directing a small portion of the plot! I fully encourage you all to begin developing your own narrative and storylines, and I will adjust the main plot alongside those! It's no fun just having the GM direct everything and you just be along for the ride. Get creative!

Every single Rift is unique in the type powers it gave when it first opened, and the Rift only gives its powers once. If someone was underneath it the first time it ever opened, they could gain abilities, however if they were underneath it the second time they would receive nothing. People from the same Rifts can receive different types of abilities, however they all fit a certain theme based on the Rifts. Everyone is unique in their abilities, so even if two people have powers which are similar in theme they both have ways of using them that would be different to the other.

@Surtr Awesome, thanks so much! I also don't really disagree with you on his Abstraction. At first I certainly leaned towards healing but I decided it seemed too obvious. I wanted to focus more on his need to bear others burdens by literally putting himself in their shoes. As an idea, maybe we can add one more weakness that would fit that theme? Would you be okay if we made it so that if he's inhabiting someone and they get injured, when he returns to his body he'll also receive that injury? I feel like it would add quite a unique danger to his abilities, and it would make it so that he's literally bearing their burdens.
A note to all! The CS sheet is NOT up yet! I am working on it, however I was kidnapped away to go eat lunch. I'll get it up asap!

EDIT: The CS sheet has been up in the Characer tab!

The Rifters live in what remains of Great Britain, which has now been reduced to a pile of rubble thanks to a massive flood which swept the land. Fortunately for them, a good deal of the structures remain although they are somewhat badly damaged. This does not stop them from using these ruins to create a new life for them however, and through much hard work and perseverance the Rifters have created a decent society for themselves. Although most of the alliances have not managed to quite get their hands on electricity yet, they are quickly approaching recreating modern lives for themselves in order to continue their now somewhat peaceful existence. This does not mean all is well however. There are many border disputes across the various alliances on who gets to maintain which lands, and there have been several gangs known as the 'Wastelanders' which have begun to crop up, insisting that being trapped in Britain is not what the Rifters are made for. Tensions are beginning to brew, and only those which choose the right side have a chance of keeping peace.

Legend:
Gray: The Wastelands, where the water damage was too sever for anyone to attempt to live in

Green: The Tradezones, where any alliance can travel to in order to trade and live with no borders

Yellow: The Mystics, otherwise known as the homeland for those from the African Rift

Blue: The Stormlands, otherwise known as the homeland for those from the Britain Rift

Red: The Wildlands, otherwise known as the homeland for those from the Brazilian Rift

Purple: The Temporalzone, otherwise known as the homeland for those from the Russian Rift

Black: The Reaping Grounds. Little is known about this area other than this is where the Britain Rift opens, and those who enter there are dismembered within less then a day, and returned to the border as a warning for all others.
Considering a Russian Rifter. Maybe a scientist-cum-oracle?

Ohhh I could definitely see that being interesting. I'm going to be working on getting the OOC up today, and hopefully people can start to work on some CS as they please. There's a lot of detail I want to put into the OOC though so I wouldn't expect it being up until later today, unless I can just find some time to work on it this morning. We'll see!

The World Must Have Been a Very Different Place Before the Sky Broke...

The RolePlay

Okay! Sorry about the long slab of text up there, but I wanted to sort of set the world I wanted to have this Roleplay in. The idea is that the actual roleplay will be set 8 years after the first Rift's opening within Russia. A large war broke out between the Rifters and the Governments of the world, and it lasted nearly an entire year. For the most part, the Rifters began to band together to fight back against the world for attempting to hunt them down although a few did attempt to remain peaceful and resist the war. Unfortunately, the Rifters were far superior to anything the worlds governments had thanks to their newfound abilities and the world truly didn't stand a chance. That changed however, when the world created what was known as 'The Order'. It was essentially a global super-force made of the the entire worlds most powerful Governments, and with the world now bound together under one name they were able to work hand-in-hand to eventually defeat the Rifters with sheer numbers and advanced tactics. Once this had been done, the Rifters were forced to sign a peace-accords which essentially stated that they could live in peace so long as they stayed within the boundaries given to them by the Order, and that they never returned or they would be destroyed. Because of this, every single one of the Rifters who had sided against the Order were forced to live within Britain due to the entire country having been heavily damaged and nearly destroyed from an incredibly powerful Rifter who had used the ocean to flood the entire land mass temporarily. The roleplay is set within Britain, where things are far from perfect however the Rifters have since begun to make a life for themselves. They've mostly split into smaller factions based on their ethnicity, however aside from occasional turf wars and harassment from some of the smaller gangs which have cropped up, they've created a fairly decent community based around their abilities. The Role Play will be pretty free-form, with only some guiding on the plot, but truthfully I just want to see what people do with this idea!

The Rifts

Every single Rift is unique in the type powers it gave when it first opened, and the Rift only gives its powers once. If someone was underneath it the first time it ever opened, they could gain abilities, however if they were underneath it the second time they would receive nothing. People from the same Rifts can receive different types of abilities, however they all fit a certain theme based on the Rifts. Everyone is unique in their abilities, so even if two people have powers which are similar in theme they both have ways of using them that would be different to the other.

The Russian Rift

The Brazil Rift

The African Rift

The Britain Rift

Okay so that's basically all I have! It's been a long time since I've been on this site, and every time I've tried to come back I've basically overwhelmed myself. So I decided to simply make one roleplay I could dedicate to and hopefully make a a good community out of! Please let me know if you're interested, have any questions, or want to know more! Thanks for reading!
@A Lowly Wretch

Ooooh that's a good question. I would have to say it would certainly go under the Russian rift, unless they're controlling said-liquids. When I actually make an OOC I'll be certain to put a lot more specific rules on the power-sets but the Britain Rift only allows control over the liquids, not the ability to change it's molecular base. So changing a substance would be under the Russian Rift but the ability to control the liquid would be limited at best.

As for the second the question, I'll be sure to make some character sheets. I'll definitely allow the use of purely text, or some pictures if some feel like it but providing art-work definitely won't be required.
