The year is 2020...
The world now totals 5 billion individuals. Only a miniscule percentage now stands between them and complete destruction.
It is an age of extraordinary individuals, of heroes and villains.
It is an age where everything is bigger - a super-age.
Super Heroes. Super Villains. Super Monsters. Super Science. Super Economics. Super Politics. Super Culture.
It is an era of fear, but also of hope. It is an era of Chaos.
For how can you keep under control beings who might as well be gods?
Welcome to a world of badasses.
Power...
All humans desire power. Few are those who wield it in any meaningful way. Heroes are individuals who wield power in a much more literal way.
Powers come in many forms.
Some are supernatural in natures, others are born from obsessions.
Some are favourable or extraordinary genetics, others are utterly alien in nature.
Some are attained after hours and hours of labour or hard work, others are discovered by pure accident.
Some believe that it is the innate potential all humans, others believe it is the providence of the chosen few.
Power grows through exertion. The more it is used, the more it pushed, the stronger and bigger it grows...
A Path…
We all walk a path and for superheroes, such a path is traditionally seen between the selfless and selfish. Between heroism and villainy. Of course, reality is much more gray, but some ideas are hard to kill.
[The Path of the Super Hero – You and Badassery]
Human life is fragile, and nowhere is it more obvious than in a world of giants, where a misstep can crush hundreds of lives.
Heroes have been with us forever, but certain periods were more favourable to them. The last century has seen a revival of heroism – starting from low-level vigilantism to outright godly superpowers.
As more and more heroes appeared, it became evident to world leaders that they had to be controlled in some way or another. In the 70’s, committees were established to monitor heroic actions, still called back then acts of vigilantism or hooliganism. With the end of the war against the USSR in the mid 80’s, heroes around the world decided to organize themselves supra-nationally. The Heroes Association was born.
The Heroes’ Association is the worldwide organization that oversees the training and control of heroes. They are similar to the UN, and much more reliable. Their stated goal is to protect humanity, at all cost. They have national branches in pretty much all countries.
That said, many heroes are now contracted by cities, governments, or even corporations to take care of various jobs. Low level heroes are often deployed against low level villains.
Being a hero is hard job, and sometimes utterly unrewarding.
But if you don’t do it, who will?
