I'm also an aspiring novelist and an avid writer of short stories.
I believe hardship and bad karma (regardless of how much good one does) are necessary for character development, aptly explained by a well selling writer: "Be a sadist. No matter how sweet and innocent your leading characters, make awful things happen to them—in order that the reader may see what they are made of." —Kurt Vonnegut
@ Corsair and Mictlan93: So long as you're okay with spoilers, that's fine. I'll be involving canon characters (though I request all player characters be originals) and there may be reference to canon events from the Titian War and the outcome from the war.
@ DizzyIsabella: I'd like to be pretty close to canon for this - so as long as she's not his actual sister and just a half-sister through Poseidon, then that's fine. (So, depending on how long you would have liked her to be at camp, is how far out we would be from the first series - so we don't rewrite the fact there was a girl living in Poseidon's cabin all along. Unless you want her to be unclaimed and she just didn't have any indication of abilities from her parent for all those years.)@ Everyone: Are you guys interested in the drawn out deal with an overlaying prophecy and a series of other prophecies to deal with? Or do you prefer mostly camp life and we'll figure out from there? (The answer to this determines what the beginning to the OOC.)
*Disclaimer: this may contain spoilers for a book series. If you don't like spoilers, and don't know what Camp Half-Blood is, then don't read any more!*
I know there's been a few attempts at CHB RPs, but I figured I'd give it another shot.
Anyways, so this would obviously take place after the first series...So if you haven't read finished the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, do so if you want to participate! but have it be instead of the Heroes of Olympus series. That being said, I prefer this is a Camp Half-Blood only scenario - so no Roman parentage or referencing Camp Jupiter.
So my thoughts are that there was a different Prophecy of Seven (I have one written, but it just doesn't feel right...so we could work on it or whatever...) and a series of quests that lead up to it. So it would follow more like the PJ&tO series instead of HoO - where they use camp as a staging ground/base camp and it starts off with the quests seeming more coincidental than stepping stones.
I do have a series of quests thought up, which range from coincidental to clearly part of the bigger picture with the final one being the prophecy that set it all in motion.
Or we can do something completely different. I've just been jonesing for a CHB RP and was hoping to find at least a handful of others interested too.
I"m hoping to keep this to 10 characters or less...preferably 7 or less...And definitely limiting the amount of Big 3s (maybe 1 for Zeus and 1 for Poseidon. Hades could have one too, but only if they're from before the three swore the oath not to have any more children - which means funky time stuff; the reason for the Hades situation is because he is - ironically - the most honorable of the gods and has never broken his word) so it would be first come first serve. We'd do character sheets with approval needed, but that shouldn't be too much of an issue I don't think.
Sorry for the rambling - I do advertise it in my name - and if this does garner interest and go to IC/OOC, my OOC post will be a lot less rambly.
Are you still looking? I've never done a Magic Girl RP, but I am familiar with the concept and am intrigued by your idea. (I'll admit when I was younger I started writing with fan-fictions and one of my first ones was Sailor Moon.)
*** Moderate Casual to advanced in writing capability - meaning at least two detailed paragraphs. Non-negotiable. *** Comfortable writing in third person, past tense. *** Willing to write without coding aside from italics - and use it for internal thought/emphasis of a particular word only. *** Able to write for your character(s). *** Able to provide a writing sample upon request. *** Up front about comfort level regarding mature content. (I will not turn away anyone that says they're not comfortable with 18+ content; any plots I have planned work with/without adult content.)
I live in the -05:00 UTC time zone (USA East Coast Time). I do work full time and have a family, but can get on every day to at least read posts. Making posts - usually I can do on average every other day (everyday if my schedule allows) but there are times where life just gets in the way. I will do my best to let you know when life gets in my way and hopefully be able to give you a timetable for how long it will be before I can post again.
I like romance; I prefer having it in my RPs. However, I am open to not even having romance involved if that's what you prefer.
That being said, I don’t mind writing adult content if it’s in the context of the RP. It should be a realistic expectation and definitely not turn into a plot point (being that it’s really the only thing the characters have going on.) It’s okay to admit you’re uncomfortable writing it or just don’t know enough about the act to portray it with your writing - I am just as happy to fade and/or fast forward the RP past it if the situation comes up as write it out if it means you're comfortable with what's happening.
Violence is okay in my book, but just keep it realistic and within reason (i.e. no violence so absurd it’s cartoonish.) Everything can be justified and I’d like to be able to get a real reason if I ask (answers along the lines of "That's just how it works" are not real answers.) I’m a dark humored person with even darker outlooks on things (for a long time my main focus in writing was horror, for example) so don’t be afraid to have a dark setting or twisted characters.
I like to ask questions, particularly when it comes to minutia or how/why something happened. It’s just how I am. Please never take it personally, and always feel free to ask grill me just as bad.
If you don’t take it personally, I won’t take it personally. Some characters are nice, some characters are mean, and some characters just stab people in the face for minor transgressions (yes, I have a character like that and it’s a lengthy explanation as to the justification for it.) What happens in character, though, is purely in character. Trust me, I won’t feel shy about telling you I have an issue, and I would hope you will do the same, so long as we all keep it civil.

Fandoms:
(Original Characters in the Fandom setting only; canon characters are background use only)
## ++ Percy Jackson and the Olympians ## X-Men Evolution Harry Potter Resident Evil Firefly/Serenity Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter Warehouse 13
Original Plots:
1)The Road To Hell ("Slice of Life" Action)
Sometimes, even innocent actions can lead to malice. Ariel learns this the hard way when she gives directions to some old acquaintances, only to find out it lead to her roommate's abduction. She's determined to make things right; she just hopes it's in time.
The Basics: This is set in a USA college. Either we can start off with our characters knowing each other, or have them meet for a first time. The abduction will happen after the start of the RP. This does not require romance, and you do not have to have a male to counterpart my female. Only real requirement is college aged character that would be willing to go along with Ariel on her quest to save her roommate.
2)Questing We Shall Go - *Long Term RP* Fantasy (up to my partner if this has mature content or not)
This scrappy band must not only deal with the random monsters and getting money, but with each other as well.
The Basics: This is for 4-6 characters total (so 2-3 characters each.) This is generic fantasy setting (I generally use Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 for my classification of 'generic') where pretty much any fantasy race is allowed, any fantasy class is allowed, and demons/warlocks = generally bad guys (exceptions can be made.) I may ask a lot of questions, and you should too; it's to make sure we're on the same page about everything. The characters don't have to always get along, they just have to be working together when it counts - like responding to "Heroes Needed" cries for help, bounty hunting, and pretty much anything else that could pay the bills. Death should be a possibility - being a hero for hire is dangerous work after all - but that doesn't mean the adventure will stop. We'll just figure out a way to work in the new character so it's not completely interrupting/obvious.
Background Plots: If desired.
1) There's a war raging between the ruler to the north and the ruler of the lands our adventures start off in/call home. This can come to light early on, or evolve as background stuff (i.e. we'll discuss it in the separate chat) that could slowly intertwine with what our characters are doing. Either way, eventually it comes down to our adventurers to help solve the problem.
2) Demons weren't always evil. They actually lived side by side with the other races in as much peace as any of the races can have along side the usual quarrels. Something changed all that and at some point our group would end up being commissioned to find out why and fix it (or die trying.)
3) (This is taken from the plot of a story I'm going to start writing, so is intended for one of my characters, but we can discuss for a change of plotting if you'd rather it be your character.) Decades ago, two warring elvish kingdoms agreed to a truce upon the marriage of the son of one kingdom and the daughter of the other. The princess disappeared a week before the wedding, and hasn't been heard from since. The unrest that feel between the two nations managed to not break into war while the king searched for his daughter. Only a few years ago, the bridegroom prince took the throne after his father's demise, and more recently the princess' father has passed on. War brews again between the two nations as the scorned bridegroom takes up a warpath to find his wayward bride.
3)Rewriting the Future (Post-Apocalyptic Science Fiction/Time Travel, Adventure)
Sheets of paper have appeared all over the settlement - posted on walls and doors, and stuffed into letter slots and even stacked on counters in the few shops there are left - over the last several days. The only thing on it is a simple message:
Wanted: Someone to travel back in time. Weapons may be necessary, but not provided. Safety not guaranteed. Contact Liam Christianson at the Academy if willing to participate.
The Basics: It's the future, and the future sucks. Humanity struggles to survive, clinging to life in whatever crevice they can find. Something went wrong in the past, and there is someone out there who has the means to go back and fix it. All he needs is a little help, and unfortunately all of his associates seem to be unwilling to go. Traveling back in time is tricky - little knowledge remains of what was, and they only speculate at exactly what date is best to return and attempt to fix what went wrong. Success means rewriting history as you know it - most of the population being killed off and forced to live in colonies underground - and ensures you will cease to exist. Failure - well, that's what got you to where you are now.
This may get dark depending on what we plot out - and the something that happened to lead to this bleak future. What happened, who/what is the opposing force in the future, and when in time they need to go back to fix things is all up for discussion.
Pretty much, the only requirement is a character that is willingly going into the past with Liam.
4)Blood and Shadows (Action, Fantasy in a Modern setting)
The Korihari are feared by those that know the name - the most vicious drug lords, bloodiest gun runners, and deadliest assassins the world knows are members of the organization. Each division of the gang is lead by their own clan head, and the heads of the Korihari have had an uneasy peace for centuries. Until one decided to leave the organization. Members don't simply leave, after all. So when one elder drops off the map with her valued clan members also seeking to leave the Korihari, the other elders seek blood. They won't settle for anything less than the heads of those that have dishonored the family. But it's not just ex-Korihari working with the former elder; a group is on the rise, working with the former Korihari to destroy the Korihari to put an end to the largest criminal organization terrorizing the country. The war may shake the world during the day, but everyone knows the best place for spilling blood is in the shadows.
The Basics: Pretty much, my character is the elder that left, and yours is one of the ones that wished to leave as well, or joined up with the group looking to destroy the Korihari. This is a long overarching plot of taking down the Korihari with potentially dozens of mini-plots with them taking down each elder and their second in commands. This does work best with multiple characters, but can work with each of us playing only one.
The Setting: The idea is that this would be set in modern times - maybe even a bit futuristic if you want - with technology appropriate to the time we use available. So if we do the future, cybernetic augmentations and androids would be possible along with laser guns and such. As for the fantasy aspect, I am talking fantasy races like elves and teiflings and orcs and such are all available along side magic. But magic in this sense is more sorcerer than wizard (for those of you that don't understand the reference, it's more natural ability than it is having a spell book on you.) We can talk more about everything and shape the world if there's interest.
5)The Cost of Living (Slice of Life, Drama)
Life sucks, that's a fact. So when two friends make a suicide pact and see it through - their dying thoughts are that everything will be better. Unfortunately for them both, one survives. The other, left in limbo attached to their friend whose life is even worse than it had been. But they don't know only one of them survived.
I'm generally open to ideas/plot pitches, so long as they are within interests.
If you're interested in anything, post here or send me a PM.
