Katherine remained still, barely breathing in the field, she watched quietly as a four legged dog-like beast ran through the desert. It looked like it was having a blast, being free, no compromise, no restraints. She smiled as she whispered to the beast to guide the rest of it's pack towards the pair of actors on the motorbikes.
She was hired for her ability to "sculpt" beasts for various movies, mostly sci-fi, fantasy and occasionally nature films where they wanted the feel of a "real live" extinct animal without the budget for CG. Occasionally, they liked having her creatures roaming about to give the actors a better reaction when the beasts were actually real to them.
The studio assumed some form of animatronics she produced in her studio, then brought to set. In reality, Muse summoned them from pure quantum and some paint. Instead of the need for expensive radios, her voice possessed a simple hypnotic rhythm that focused her creatures. She hummed a simple tune, almost bouncing her melody to time with the pack and it's race through the desert. While in the desert, Katherine wore a light tank top, and a pair of cutoff jean shorts with a simple vest with implements to create her creatures and potentially touch them up if they need it.
Then the explosion...
When the explosion hit, several of her beasts reacted to the fire and debris like wild animals should. They fled and scattered like leaves in a whirlwind. Katherine on the other hand froze solid, she didn't have her coat, or her stencils! She stared wide eyed as everyone else came to aid the injured actor and the Wendy went down...hard. Her fingers instinctively twitched for her duster, it was NuFabric, it was safe, it powered her...Wendy was always nice to her, to them "We need to focus.." She whispered to herself, it was her mantra. It was what helped make her perceive the world as Muse instead of ...her train of thought derailed itself again as she realized Wendy was hurt!
Wait, was that a person flying away? A Gamma did this?
Her attention was drawn back as one of her beasts crashed into her leg, sending her tumbling into the sand. She scrambled back to her truck reflexively. Katherine was just a wrangler who made animals for films, her other half, Muse was the one who fought. Getting back to her feet, the young woman scrambled for her truck. Pulling the door open, she shucked off the flimsy vest containing markers and pens for her Quantum constructs. She drew forth a knee length beat up brown duster. Drawing the coat around herself, Katherine felt her heart rate slowing down. She grabbed a canvas messenger bag laden with spraypaint and stencils. Katherine let out one last calming breath, and Muse drew in the next. She looked about the desert, and noted her beasts still running about. She gave a shrill whistle, the command to release. The beasts looked towards Muse before vanishing in a cloud of multicolored dyes. Drawing the heavy hood around her dark red hair, she looked towards the Gammas who were busy assessing the scene. Walking towards the gathering, she kept to the outskirts and listened. There were honest to goodness heroes in here, she just summoned heroes to fight. Wendy...Perfection seemed to be okay thanks to a healer. She let out a small breath of relief. Gamma's like Perfection could take a beating, and natural healing picked up the check. Muse wasn't nearly as lucky, thankfully she had her own ways to deal with a threat.
"Sundeck to learn more..."
Muse looked towards the others and reflexively palmed her messenger bag. She could hear Lorelei's voice echoing through her mind, wishing to be called forth.
"Not yet," she whispered softly.
The voice sharpened a little more, the sound almost grated against her mind. Lorelei paced within the recesses of her psyche, like a panther waiting for her next challenge.
She carefully adjusted the scarf around her lower face, as she looked to the other Gammas. The voice was thankfully just inside her mind.
For now.
