I was away for a week, hopefully I will have time to post tomorrow or on tuesday
I dont mind discord on very advanced RPs that contain a lot of cooperative posts, but dont really like it for light casual RP like this.
Ye I agree, maybe we could turn Cake into NPC if @datadogie is not coming back any time soon?
Btw all the NPCs I have created for the survey team are free to play with, I don't really care about them, feel free to play with them or even kill them off if you feel the need

Elm nodded as Gue’rach made his point about religious sites. “Yes, if the civilization receives visits from other worlds, I would expect such places to be marked. But if not, it is entirely possible that not entering these ruins is so obvious to the entire population that they don’t feel the need to place warning signs there. On the other hand, they would hardly force us to land here if that was the case. Anyway, in some cultures literally anything can be seen as ‘sacred’ so let’s just try to not break things or take them away. Speaking of,” she pierced Doctor Jenkins with a stern look, “we should be extra careful about capturing any live animals.” Jenkins frowned, but didn’t make any comments.

As Robin spoke, Elm just nodded, completely agreeing with her. She smiled as the cup Robin threw landed safely in the trash can. “You are right, doctor Pearson. Time to get started.” With these words Elm got up and left the meeting room.

When finally leaving the ship, Elm took a deep breath. All scans assured them that the atmosphere was completely safe, very similar to what they had on the Prize. But sensors could not tell them about the beautiful light smell of grass after rain which reminded Elm of her home planet. The view was nothing short of breathtaking. The bright blue trees around the clearing seemed so tall it was beyond Elm’s understanding how they do not break in the slightest wind. Not that there was any wind at the moment. She took a few seconds to crouch to closely observe the luminescent moss sprawling on the ground, but got up quickly, knowing that she could lose herself in thoughts very easily. And there was much more to be seen here.

Only one out of the three suns was currently hovering over the scenery, but a second one was just beyond the horizon, ready to shine even more light on the ground. To Elm it felt amazing and she made sure to expose as much of her bark-like skin to the sunlight as possible (and as appropriate). The temperature rose up a bit, but it was pleasantly warm. “At least we won’t be cold,” she smiled. “All right guys, let’s head out.” Double-checking the right direction on her tablet just to be sure, she started walking across the clearing towards the edge of the mesmerising forest where ruins were located. She made sure that her assistant was taking pictures of the moss and roots on the ground, that were glowing in various shades of blue, slightly changing colors as the team stepped on them.
I will probably post on Monday, getting a surprise visit from my in-laws today, so I have no time
@IceHeart The link in your post doesnt work. Which is sad, because I want to see it!
@Eviledd1984 Maybe just a biologist, not a doctor? I have already introduced an NPC who is a leading biologist on the ship, but maybe D'artgnan could be his teammember? It wouldn't be a problem to go to the current expedition instead of his arrogant boss :) I would leave out the part about being knowledgeable about flora, since that is Elm's part, but just focusing on all sorts of alien animals and creatures will still leave a big area to move around.
I took the liberty of introducing some NPCs for the survey expedition, so just for consistency:
Antonio - Elm's assistant
doctor Mizushima Izumo - expert on history and archeology
doctor Henry Jenkins - leader of the biology section
As the meeting was interrupted by the alien vessel's arrival, it was getting harder for Elm to hide her nervosity from leading the survey team. She was glad that the planet had breathable atmosphere, that will make things much easier since they didn’t have to deal with life-support gear outside. “Okay,” she took a deep breath. “Let’s get ready to go outside. Doctors Daniels and Pearson, grab whatever gear and equipment you think you will need. Lieutenant Ve’tame, please gather a security team. I will leave the size of it and their weaponry completely up to you, but I do suggest that while there might be some dangers outside, we don’t want to look like an invading army. I will contact other science departments and find out who they will want to send with us. Let’s meet in Briefing room 3 in about an hour.”

Elm headed to the botany lab to grab a multi-purpose scanner and some equipment to gather tissue samples. She connected her tablet to the ship’s computer and loaded it with all the currently available information about the planet and immediate area around the ship. “Antonio,” she turned to one of her assistants, a bulky hispanic man who looked more like a bouncer than a botany student, “you can come with me. Grab your gear and go get ready.” After that she went to her quarters to change into a uniform that was more suitable to wander around in a potentially hostile environment than her current lab coat. Through all this, she was exchanging messages with other science department leaders.

An hour later in Briefing room 3

Once everyone was gathered, Elm stood up. She had spent a big part of the past hour thinking about what she should say, but it didn’t make her any less nervous. “Okay, let’s start by introducing our science reinforcements from other departments, just in case you haven’t met them before. This is doctor Mizushima Izumo,” she nodded in the direction of a short and thin man with white hair and long white beard. “Our ship’s expert on alien history, archeology and all things connected to it. And this,” she pointed to another man, “is doctor Henry Jenkins, leader of Prize’s biology section.” She hoped that her disappointment didn’t show up in her tone. Henry Jenkins was by far the most arrogant and self-absorbed person on the ship. She was hoping that this kind of field work was too low-level for him and he would send someone else to get the hands dirty instead, but apparently he was in a mood for adventure. Or getting famous by discovering some new animal species and having them named after him.

“This is the initial model of the Prize’s current surroundings, compiled from what scanners were able to pick up while landing. We could launch a survey drone to cover more ground, but that could be viewed as a hostile act, so for now, we are left with just a rough scan of the immediate area. We are on a clearing in the middle of thick forests with no apparent signs of civilization anywhere nearby, except for a group of stone structures a bit north off the ship. They seem very old and have probably been abandoned for a long time, but since this alien civilization seems to be highly religious, we have to be careful in case they are some sort of sacred ground. We will head there first, doctor Izumo will start his research there and the rest of us can use it as a base to explore the forest. Any questions or suggestions?” she asked and sat down.
So can we assume that the athmosphere is breathable and planet otherwise habitable by humans and human-like aliens?
