Dark Space - A Mecha-Focused Space Opera RP

CNS Spirit of Adventure

The Spirit of Adventure is the first in her class of 12 Spirit-class Fast Frigates intended for use with the first 12 Ranger Corps teams. The ships are equipped with the latest model medium-range hyperdrive and extensive automation, including shipboard AI. All other components are proven off-the-shelf equipment used in other models of Confederation Naval vessels.
Spirit differs only from her planned sister ships by the use of Railguns as her fixed-forward anti-ship armament; the anti-ship Particle Lances intended to equip her sister ships were not ready in time, and railguns were fitted instead.
Onboard facilities are comparatively spacious and luxurious for the size of the ship, a situation achieved via the increased use of AI for ship management tasks reducing crew complement, giving more space for individual facilities. Small, but relatively comfortable quarters are available for all regular personnel, with auxiliary cargo/storage rooms able to be converted for multiple occupancy dormitory/bunk style crew compartments.
Crew quarters are arranged in the fashion of individual small rooms with incorporated washing/sanitation facilities that can be configured for the needs of various Confederation species, all facing onto a centralised shared social space. Several of these will be arranged along corridors. The ship has two mess decks where food is served. Larger lounges also provide social spaces and small, but ample recreational facilities for the size of the crew and ship.

Following with current design theories, the ship's bridge is shielded by heavy blastproof plates in combat or hazardous conditions, along with other large external windows or viewing apertures, as well as the paired port and starboard hangars at the lower corners of the midship.
Both engine nacelles can rotate 180 degrees for braking manoeuvers.
Unusually, no ventral armament is fitted, though it remains to be seen if this is considered a blind spot.
The Spirit class ships are not designed or intended for atmospheric operation, and their hulls are rated for non-terrestrial atmosphere operations only.

Crew Complement: 20 regular ships' crew + up to 15 additional ships' company (i.e. security forces, pilots, etc) + space for up to 30 additional personnel in converted spaces.

Crew Facilities:

• Shared cafeteria-style mess deck with comprehensive galley
• Individual cabins with modular faculties able to be reconfigured for all Confederation species.
• Sufficient cabins for all regular crew members. Cabins incorporate en suite sanitary facilities and ample storage for personal effects
• Cabins arranged in suites around a common social/briefing/working multipurpose space
• Medical Bay with facilities and equipment to handle all known ConFederation species and others
• Onboard workshop/laboratory spaces for maintenance, analysis, and low-level manufacture/rebuild of components and systems
• Equipment shop/ready rooms for storage and outfitting of mecha/small craft crew and pilot gear
• Recreational facilities include small multi-species gymnasium able to be reconfigured for various workout regimes by different species, and multi-function spaces for various uses (i.e. live performances of music, movie/holo theater, etc etc)

Dark Space

It is the year 2184. Humanity has expanded into space and become part of the Interstellar civilization known as the Confederation.
Society is thriving and the galaxy grows smaller as the frontiers expand. But things are stirring, in the darkness of space...

Dark Space is a space opera, real-robot anime inspired, mecha-oriented RP. It follows the adventures of a team of hand-picked specialists who are the crew of a small, specialised Confederation starship. Their job is to investigate suspicious activities, intervene in dangerous situations, and otherwise solve problems that arise across Confederation territory... and beyond.

The players will be part of the crew, each with a specialist role as well as their own mecha, as they take on missions and tasks from the Confederation along the frontier of space and elsewhere. Along the way, they will fight villains, uncover conspiracies, ancient mysteries and discover more about the galaxy as they are drawn into an epic plot that will hinge on their decisions and actions as the heroes of the story - in the best traditions of Real Robot mecha anime.

Rules

I prefer not to have too many rules, but it's good to set a few guidelines and expectations.

• Rule 0: Don't be a dick.
• Rule 1 - No non-mecha pilot characters. It's a mecha-focused game.
• If I don't know about it, it doesn't exist:
  You may have the greatest idea for your character, or for a bit of background. But if you haven't told me about it, then it doesn't exist.
• Play in the spirit of the RP and the setting. Yes, we all know mecha are impractical and unrealistic. But that doesn't mean you get to find loopholes in the logic of the setting to take advantage of. That's not in the spirit of the setting, or the story.
• Your characters are generally intended to be a positive force for good in the setting, who are more heroic, rather than villainous. You don't have to be a goody-goody two-shoes, but being a murderous sociopath, crippled with angsty issues is also not great. This is escapism, and it's supposed to be fun. Also, mentally unstable psychopaths with dubious morality and no empathy don't get chosen as the top of the class for special units with a lot of autonomy.
• You're free to act however you like in character - you don't have to be nice to other characters, and you can be as much of a joker as you like - but keep in mind that in character actions have in character consequences.
• No god-modding, no meta-gaming and no power-gaming. It's just boring and tedious, and adds nothing to the story or your character.
• Yes, there are anthro/furry characters in the setting/RP. Don't be a prick about it, and keep your shitty views about the furry fandom to yourself.
• Absences are fine, just let me know beforehand if you can. Unexpected things happen as well and RL comes first.
• Please maintain at least a minimum standard of grammar and spelling in your posts, as well as an understandable grasp of English.
• It is Not my job to remind you to post. If you do not post regularly because you can't be bothered or are 'too lazy', then I can't be bothered to remind you. I'll just assume you're not interested any more if you keep missing out on posts.
• There is no posting order, posting orders suck ass. The only addendum to this, is that I will make a GM post to set a scene and guide things, then everyone makes a response - or responses - to interact with that post, and one another. Once we have had a 'round' of posts, I'll move things on again.
• Adult Content - covering swearing and sexual situations; swearing is fine as long as it's not to excess or puerile. Romance is fine, and a bit of titillation or racy content, but anything explicit should just be a fade to black.
• As well as the spirit of the game, the mood of the game is important also. The aim is a game with action, drama, epic moments and excitement. There is room for light-heartedness, but this is not a comedy game.

Character & Mecha Sheets

Please post these in the OOC tab when completed, for approval, following the formatting in the sheet.

Examples of a special role would be something like Medic, Marksman, Tech Specialist, Close Combat, Stealth/Infiltrator, Heavy Weapons, Demolitions, Communications, or any other sort of specialisation you can think of. Non-Combat oriented ones are fine, but your character should still be able to fight and also be a mecha pilot.

Character Sheet

Name: Your Character's Name
Age: Your character must be old enough to have had some experience. At least over 20
Sex:
Species: Any of the pre-created ones that are eligible, or create your own
Appearance: A short text description of their features and appearance, and/or an image that represents them. Anime or cartoon-style art is preferred, and no photo images.
Personality: A short overview of your character's personality. A paragraph or so.
History: A little overview of your character's background. Just a short summary, rather than every detail.
Key facts: A few bits of trivia to add to character depth and background; likes, dislikes or suchlike.

Personal Gear: Any specific personal weapons, armour, or other useful equipment and items. List format is preferred.

Speciality: See above

Anything Else: A music track, some trivia, or anything else.

Mecha Sheet

You may adapt a mecha from another franchise - e.g. a BattleTech Mech, Macross Variable Fighter, Gundam Mobile Suit, or so on. However, it's technology, weapons, etc. must be adapted to fit the setting. For example, Gundam mobile suits would not have beam sabers, Battletech mechs don't have to worry about heat management and would have controls and such equivalent to the other mecha of the setting, and so on and so forth.

Mecha Name: The name of the mecha
Type: E.g. - scout mecha, general purpose, transformable fighter, etc.
Crew: Single pilot, can it carry passengers, etc
Appearance: An image of the mecha
Stats: If you're using an existing mecha, you can usually find this in a profile of it. Speed, height, weight, etc. Feel free to alter these if they don't fit in the limits of the setting, though remember to keep them within the limits.
Weapons: A list of the machines' normal weaponry and any optional weapon systems
Equipment: Anything that isn't necessarily a weapon, but is noteworthy and could be of use. I.e. a shield, particular sensors, drones, etc.
Other info: A flashy paint job, some history of your character's individual machine, etc.

The Zeroth post on the OOC topic will have details of the groups' ship. The Zeroth post on the characters tab will hold a roster of the active group members and their mecha, as well as NPCs.

Just after Valkyrie's Gripen had touched down and taxied away from the runway, the squadrons' C-130J thundered down the strip and lumbered into the air with a growling of propellers, followed by a bigger, four-jet Antonov transport that took off with a rumbling roar.
As the sound died away with the planes receding in the sky to the east, Kat arrived at the hangar the Gripen was parked outside of and where Ayvee's fighter was waiting. The tall woman stuffed her kitbag into the baggage pod hung on one of the Super Tomcat's hardpoints, before her attention was taken as well by the newly arrived sleek little delta-winged jet and its' pilot. She hung her helmet on the end of one of the missile rails and walked over to the pair, arriving just as Ayvee introduced herself. She smiled at the pair hesitantly as she stepped up close, and gave a nod to Freyja.
"Oh, hey;" she said in her rough, husky voice. "Valkyrie, good to meet you. And you're Stingray, saw you at the briefing but didn't get a chance to get introduced. Looking forward to working with you both"

Meanwhile, Scott had taken care of his own business; he grabbed some chow, took a shower and packed a bag with the essentials from his quarters. Such as they were; most of his stuff was still in storage in the US. He hadn't decided so far on whether to invest in a house on the island, or rent one, or just stay in the base housing. Whatever; he was all-but ready to head for the ready-room to suit up but with a little time to spare.
He headed out of the quarters and took a walk that'd take him in the direction of the ready room, hangar and the rest. He was eager to strap into the Tomcat again and get into the air, and for the mission to come - although before he got too far, he was distracted by the sight of Mykhailo and Fuka hanging on a bench with their kit bags. He stepped up just in time to hear Myk's clumsy pass - or joke, he wasn't sure - at the Japanese-American pilot. He couldn't help but raised an eyebrow and laugh as he leant on the edge of the bench.
"Well, good to see you two are getting acquainted fast," he said with a growing grin. "So, how's it going; am I seeing a romance about to bloom here?"

Good news, I have completed writing up the background info.
On the downside, I have basically written an entire roleplay setting and fictional universe...

Real Robot Mecha + Sci-fi RP (Macross/Gundam + Mass Effect style?)

I had spent almost all of today and a significant portion of yesterday working on the OOC to get it ready to post, but the browser accidentally closed and I lost all of it.

Serves me right for not putting it in a document before typing it up, but that doesn't help me feel less gutted about all that time being wasted.

I will try and get the info up tomorrow or over the weekend, and I will probably use an off-site editor to type it up, and maybe use Google Drive or something similar to present and organise the information, so that it makes it easier on formatting and is less likely to be lost than using RP Guild.

Sorry for the delays, but it's taking a lot longer than I expected.
