SO there's kinda a lot going on right now. What should we be doing? Will Robocops start busting down the doors?
Fenrir and Hellfire had been gone for a while. They're probably just bro-ing out Phil thought, not knowing the dark truth. Most of the pizza had been eaten, leaving only cardboard corpses. Phil had definitely eaten more than his fair share; he may have dropped out of the University of Star City, but he still ate like a college student.

Stretching, Phil yawned and cracked his joints. "Anyone want to do a War Room session?"

Jin was finished with her pizza, and playing a sci-fi shooter on her handheld gamer. She lifted her hand and called out without moving her gaze from the scene. "I'm up for it, Philly." Raising up from the couch, she wandered toward him while shooting down enemy ships. "Dangit." She'd been shot down, so she pocketed the game and looked up at Phil.

Her head tilted, and her eyes got the calculating look that was present when she was facing a problem. "You look different." They all looked a bit different, though. But it wasn't a physical change that she was noting. "Your eyes." She said after a long moment of silence. "You're looking more aware, sharper." A faint grin appeared on her face. "Good. Maybe you can teach me something instead."

Phil paused, thinking on Jin's words. "A lot has changed in a year," he said, returning Jin's apraising glance. "You look... different. In a good way." I can't put my finger on it. She obviously has grown, but she looks more confident maybe?
"How have you been?"

Jin's smile flickered. She didn't want to tell him about the therapy, and the nightmares, or anything else. "I'm alive. That's usually the best I can go on a given day." She jerked her head in the direction of the War Room, and led the way. "If it's all the same, I'm going weapons-free. I need the practice."

Phil frowned. Jin's response was cryptic and pessimiatic, but Phil doubted he could get a better answer with everyone else around. "Yeah, fine with me. No powers either?" They began walking towards the War Room.

Jin smirked a bit, giving him a look over her shoulder. "If you can hack it without your powers, then sure. But I'm not gonna go easy on you." She turned back to watch where she was going. Even though she'd read the blueprints of the upgraded base, she was still getting used to them on foot. "Maybe last year I would have been gentle, but... you look like you can handle it, so you get the respect punches."

"Oh, thanks," Phil responded in a sarcastic but friendly way. He playfully punched Jin's arm.

"Oh, owwww." Jin made an exaggerated wince, and then grinned at him. "You keep that up and you might even leave a mark."

Phil grinned, like he used to around Jin. She was like a goofy little sister to the young mage.

Jin let the rest of the way to the war room, warming up her muscles in quick sequence, and pulling herself into an agile handstand, balancing on her palms, and then fingertips. "So... how have you been, Philly?" She righted herself and started to roll her shoulders. "You do anything interesting while we were... on break?"

"Well, I did some traveling, Europe mostly. I met Justice League Dark. That was interesting, to say the least. Let's just say I'm sick of rhyming couplets." Phil chuckled at his own inside joke. But inwardly, Phil frowned; his nerves knotted in his stomach. I trust Jin, and I should tell her the truth. The whole reason for this 'study abroad' was to train for my inevitable fight with the corrupted Nabu. No one but Constantine knows about Nabu going psycho. "I... should tell you something. It's about---"
Phil was cut off by a commotion over the loudspeaker. Apparently, something was going on in the meeting room.

Hurrying back to the others, Jin and Phil were surprised to find Plastic Man alive again.

(Collab between Dizzy and Riurik)
I'm at work so I'll be on TitanPad till three, working on a post
Does someone want to collab on a post? Maybe a war room session?
I'm good with some down time. Phil hasn't even officially met the newbies yet (collab anyone?). Plus, I'm now craving BBQ chicken pizza. Thanks KL :P
Congrats! The ring is very pretty. Now for wedding planning!
It wasn't long before friendly faces arrived on the bridge. Ditto, all business, layed out the two-pronged plan of attack. Phil would be working with his old teammates Ditto and Fenrir, along with a turtle-like alien, an ice user, and a shadow user. Phil only had time for a quick nod to greet to his old friends.

Chunks of pavement flew through the air as Cinderblock tried to retaliate against his unseen antagonists with his one good arm. Blinded by the shadow user and wounded by Fenrir, the concrete convict seemed close to tottering off the bridge. All he needed was a shove in the right direction. Phil tried to blast him with arcane bolts, but the behemoth shrugged them off like flies.

A phantom voice floated into Phil’s mind. ”Your power seems a little...lacking. Just slip on the Helm and all my power is yours…” Phil shook his head, not dignifying Nabu with a proper response. Let’s go with Plan B…

Summoning arcane energy, Phil concentrated on the brute’s stubby legs. His signature golden chains erupted from the ground, wrapping like shining boa constrictors around Cinderblock’s ankles and anchoring themselves into the ground.. The convict bellowed in resistance, struggling against the mystic bonds as Phil struggled to keep them intact.

“I’ll hold him as long as I can. He's off balance, hit him hard!” Phil shouted to his teammates.
After leaving the cafe, Phil opened the duffle bag slung across his shoulders. It held most of the arcane hardware he had managed to collect this past year. Reaching in, Phil ignored the large metal helmet to get his cloak. It billowed out in the sea breeze of Star City, a blue so dark it was almost black. In a minute, the mantle was around Phil’s neck, hood drawn, and Phil himself was flying over the city, buildings and people raced by far below.

Phil wasn’t ready to go back to the headquarters, not yet. He still had nightmares on rare occasion about the Deathstroke incident. The fingers on his left hand flexed, going through their limited range of motion. The scars still hurt, were still fresh, both physically and mentally. John had said that wounds from that magic blade were hard to heal. Zatanna hadn’t spoken on the matter.

The clangor of battle interrupted Phil’s thoughts. A giant of stone was fighting authorities on the Star Bridge. The transportation truck was in shreds like a tin can that had gotten run over by a lawnmower. Phil reached into his bag once more, dawning gold gauntlets and a gold mask. The mask was ornate but not magical, It looked like a death mask of a long dead pharaoh, but without the false beard and headdress. The gauntlets were likewise golden, but had magic about them. Reaching the site, Phil quickly put them to use by casting a large dome-shaped shield to protect civilians from the debris that the stone giant was hurling.

I sure hope the rest of the team gets here soon, Phil thought as he strained against the onslaught.
Emerging from the portal, Phil surveyed his surroundings, once more breathing in Star City's unique mix of ocean air and city smog. It was an old, rundown section of Star City. Phil adjusted his duffel bag’s strap before continuing onto the agreed meeting spot, a small Turkish cafe. When he entered, there was only one person in the room, his official mentor and sponsor.

“Zatanna.” Phil was cool. He had seen the magician only a handful of times in the last year.

“I’m glad you agreed to meet me, Phil. I’ve been concerned,” Zatanna said, pulling out a chair for the younger wizard. Phil glanced at the proffered chair, then looked away, rejecting it.

“You said you had information on the demon,” Phil said, redirecting the conversation.

Zatanna frowned. “Phil, this is more than just about demon hunting. I’m concerned for you.” Zatanna stood up, reaching out for Phil’s arm. He let her hand stay. “There is something going on in the world of magic. Rumors of growing darkness and chaos. Xanadu has made more than the usual doomsday prophecies. I’ve even heard that Captain Marvel has been mysteriously stripped of his powers. The world of magic is in upheaval. I want you to be safe.”

Phil brushed off Zatanna’s comforting hand. “More like you’re concerned the Helm of Nabu is safe. I’m always second to that tin hat to you.” Phil jutted out his jaw in defiance.

“You’ve been spending too much time with that Cockney curmudgeon. Jaded doesn’t suit you, Phil,” Zatanna responded calmly. A pregnant silence awkwardly hung over them. “Is that Helm safe?” Zatanna finally asked, a mix of duty and shame in her voice.

A sardonic smirk crossed Phil’s face. “Ha. That’s what this meeting is actually about. Not some Dr. Phil rerun where we all talk about our feelings and how much we missed each other. Let’s get this over with. Where’s the demon nest?”

Zatanna sat back down, and slid an envelope across the table. This was not going as she had hoped. “The info is in here. There’s one more thing, though, and it’s not about the Helm.” Zatanna cleared her throat and shifted uncomfortably in her seat. Phil finally sat across from her, wondering what she was about to say.

“As your official Justice League sponsor, I have to tell you that with your recent actions... it makes the government, um... question your intentions. The whole reason we have this new Justice League system is to put a check on us superheroes, to keep tabs on us so no one tries to play god… again. Your time abroad… with the ‘Justice League Dark’... it doesn’t look good. You have no ties here, hell, you barely speak to your parents. And JL Dark is not the most popular team to the government. Phil, if you want to keep doing this, you have to go back to the Young Justice team, and stay there. Otherwise, your sponsorship might be called into question.”

Phil took it all in, and nodded. “I was going to stop by there anyway.” Taking the envelope, he stood up and walked towards the door. Inside, he was glad to see his old friends once again.

“One more thing, the team has been through a bit of a recruiting drive, so you might see some new faces,” Zatanna called as he left.

Great. I hate meeting new people, Phil thought.
Sorry it took so long, but I'm finally all caught up in the IC. Good posts all around. We definitely got some new talent. For my part, I should have a post soon.
