Hitomi always had to leave for school early.
Why, she had no idea, but her parents insisted on this all the time, even when their current place of residence was barely a ten minute walk away from the Building of Education. Heading out a full hour early was just pure evil! It wasn't like Hitomi had forgotten to brush her teeth, brush and tie her hair, or even forget to eat! Her schoolbag was hanging from her shoulder as it always did, homework belonging to a couple of others in class that had begged her to help them out (something about too many chores preventing them from completing an assignment, and Hitomi was only too happy to assist), and...
Oh, wait, she'd forgotten her scarf! And woollen gloves. The cold air was biting at her unprotected skin, and the shivering girl was quick to succumb to the frosty temperature and rush back home, setting her satchel aside once she'd stepped through the door, the twin-tailed blonde climbed the stairs and entered her small, but cozy room.
In her haste to locate anti-weapon equipment, the organised little space was quickly transformed into the remains of a clothing store that had gotten into a fistfight with a minefield, and took a couple of hard hits in the process. But at least she found her favourite pair of white gloves!
And so, stumbling over the small piles of clothes litterig her bedroom floor, the adequately-protected high-schooler was now once more walking to school. She still had plenty of time after all. After an uneventful six minutes, however...
"...Aw, darn," she mumbled, coming to a stop. Her satchel was missing. She'd sat the thing down, right? With a light knock to her forehead with a knuckle, Hitomi once more hurried back home with a light jog.
Satchel once more procured, Hitomi headed for school once more. Still about half an hour to go, more or less, so no point in rushing there! Despite the setbacks (which were a lot more common than even Hitomi seemed to notice), she wore a content smile on her face. Even if she wasn't exactly someone that was part of a large social group, she felt as if her whole class was like a large gathering of friends, so school wasn't a terrible place to be for most of your week. And come to think of it, she was sure that a few of her classmates had mentioned something about a transfer student? It was a bit of an odd time to transfer, Hitomi hoped that whoever this new student was, they wouldn't feel left out or anything...
Having finally reached the school gates, an ominous feeling overtook Hitomi. There was... something not right, right? Something was missing... but what? She'd gathered everything...
Hesitantly, she opened her bag and looked at the contents. Yep, the homework for her classmates was still there... school supplies...
And then Hitomi realised it: her own homework was still sitting at the dining room table from the previous evening. Hell, she'd even looked at it this morning! How did she forget that?!
"Uwaaaah..." the normally-cheerful girl couldn't help but moan pitifully, turning heel and downright sprinting back home this time. What a lot of good leaving early turned out to be.
