I just can't. This is too much. Berserk was so influential on so many things that I love. Goodbye, Miura. You'll be missed by many.

Bio
Hello! Welcome to my little bio.
Not much to say, really. Just a horror game protag that likes writing and playing vidya games when I'm not being chased by the cosmic forces of darkness. (I'm a security guard that works night shifts usually).

"Keep telling yourself that, Cath." Claire smirked, flashing her a grin as Dunstan spoke. "No questions...but uh, here." She'd give Dunstan her number. Might be better to keep in contact some way after all. "Here, call me if you need anything. I'll keep ya informed if I can occasionally but for now probably better if I get to Bigfjord sooner rather than later. Isabella seemed to uh, seemed pretty eager to recruit me and I don't know how I feel about that."
"Rral~"
"Yeah yeah, keep talking you little midget." Claire rolled her eyes, giving Ralia a few pats on the head. "Hey, Cathia?" Claire glanced back at the other girl. "Uh...you seem to know a bit about Isabella, and if I'm gonna do this any information going in might be super useful." A small request. She wondered if Cathia would accept - she had no reason to really trust her, especially after that scuffle but at least they seemed to believe her for now.
“Yep.” The boy replied to Richard. “Your info is in our database now so anywhere else you bring items too they’ll be registered under your account and name. If you buy the membership, you can move items between any of our facilities. We’re pretty much everywhere in Eidda except Giants Watch.”
As he’d finish speaking and taking care of Richards items and sorting them, a man in a well dressed suit would walk in. Normally, it would not be anything out of the ordinary but Richard might notice a slight frown forming on the guys lips before being replaced with a usual friendly sales voice.
“Right then, well, if that’s everything I have some important business to take care of.”
“No need to rush for me, Felix.” The suited man said, leaning against a wall near the door.
“He was just finishing up anyways. If you have any questions feel free to call later.” A small business card was given to Richard with the store's number on it.
Assuming Richard had nothing else he wanted to do or ask of Felix, he’d be allowed to leave…which would mean he’d be met with three more men in suits. They’d say nothing to him as he’d leave.
This left Isla and Sophie to head into the museum by themselves. Heading up the stairs it became clear before they’d even enter, the place was absolutely packed. Kids, from the look of it, not to mention other tourists, but the majority of the place was packed with young children as well as teenagers. The normal respectful silence of the museum was gone, replaced by a loud din of voices talking, various apparent tour guides leading children along the exhibits. A quick look at some bedraggled people that looked to be teachers, some mildly tired looking museum staff and a few backpacks and sportswear labeled ‘Wailport Academy’, made it clear that they had stumbled into the Museum during a field trip.
Once they actually managed to get through the doors, they’d be met with a large skeletal recreation of a prehistoric pokemon hanging from the ceiling - a four legged creature that was apparently an ancestor to the current day Wailords. This was one of a few skeletal remains found, and also the largest.
“Well, you two have picked a bit of a bad day to visit the museum. Apologies for the noise, field trip day for the Wailport Academy.” Before they could do much else though, the girl wearing the Society's uniform approached the duo, having been standing just inside the door.
“Ugh, of course Zach would choose now of all times to run off…”
“Hm, well assuming he’s still in the building he’s unlikely to get far. I’ll tell the staff here to check some off limit and staff areas.”
“Much appreciated. I doubt its anything to worry about, well…unless he breaks something…” A tired sigh as eyes settled on Isla and Sophie. “Ah, sorry, didn’t mean to interrupt. If you’ll excuse me.” Going back to his papers, the teacher would head further into the Museum, talking with a few more adults and staff workers.
“Well, if you two don’t mind me asking, what brings you to the Museum?” The girl, apparently named Lilian, would ask. “I can point you in the direction of a particular exhibit. We recently got some new things from a recently discovered dig out near the glaciers on 42, though most people are here for the fossils and ancient Pokémon.”
Richard would come back just at the tail end of this conversation...
1. Leave the Museum. 2. Explore the exhibits. Who knows, you might find something interesting. 3. The teacher seems to have lost a student…perhaps you could help find this kid. 4. Might could ask Lilian about what happened outside. 5. Random event (Want to bully the GM? Ask him to make a random encounter for you that isn’t any of the above or below. Quality will vary.)
Byjerlfal City, Commercial District -> Industrial district @Bartimaeus@Crusader Lord Urban Exploration
The murkrow had split off from the starly after a scuffle, and while they were faster than the trainers and swifter moving it would make tracking that specific flock something difficult. Still, they likely didn’t want that specific flock. There were likely Murkrows in a lot of areas around here.
Heading away from the Commercial district, towards the docks, and following the seaside to the Industrial district would be the easiest way to get there. Eventually the noise of the loud ads, the cacophony of different voices from tourists would be a distant noise replaced by the sound of silently humming machines, bird song and the sound of an occasional worker or vehicle moving by. Skyscrapers instead gave way to warehouses, row upon row of them along with other industrial buildings for shipping, manufacturing.
A gloomy serenity would fill the area left behind by Bjyerlfals commercial district. Even the people here were more rough and tumble looking compared to the commercial district's more glamorous and shiny exterior.
Finding some Murkrow out during the day might be a bit difficult. They were nocturnal after all, but then why had that flock been out and about? They could hear a few Murkrow cries coming from further in, down some alleys but the place didn’t exactly seem the safest place to go poking about in. Still, even this place had a few things of note.
A small chain of shops, and even a small cafe named ‘Wailords Rest’ was visible lining the walls. Seemed fairly cozy and well traveled. It faced the sea and a number of sailors from the SS calliope, the recently docked liner could be seen here. Looked like there was some commotion within.
They had for now, though, lost the trail of the Murkrow. They might need to either ask around or find some way to look for the pokemon.
1. Find pokemon (Specify if you’re looking for anything in particular or how you look) 2. Find trainers to battle (There might be a few people here looking to tussle, especially the sailors.) 3. The Resort and Commercial districts can be easily accessed from here. The residentials a bit of a walk. 4. Area Specific: The Wailords Rest is here. Seems to be a popular hole in the wall eatery. Popular among sailors. Some commotion can be heard from within. 5. Random event (Want to bully the GM? Ask him to make a random encounter for you that isn’t any of the above or below. Quality will vary.)
“Ah-” Frieda tensed slightly at being suddenly hugged by Camila. “O-oh well you know lab partners have to stick together and all. Uhm-weh!” Before she could break free from the hug, Pix would climb between the two, laughing impishly before it’d take a free hug from both. “Pix is sad to see you go too, I guess, ahaha.” Frieda laughed, pulling away and holding the pokemon in her arms. “Well, good luck out there Camila. Let me know if I can ever help you!”
Heading out of the lab, Camila would be met with the usual hustle and bustle of the city. She could see some of the other trainers Camphor had hired not too far away. Some seem interested in the museum, and a few were hanging about seemingly interested in heading into the park. All places she had been before, what with living in the city and all that.
Instead, Camila decided to go ahead and leave the city and instead, head to…
-Route 1-
What greeted her was the forest Route 1 was known for. Fed by water runoff from various streams and rivers that fell from the mountains to the north and Lake Peltra, the forest was allowed to flourish. Lush, verdant and green, and once she got a few meters away the noise of the city would already be drowned out by the greenery and the slowly thickening canopy. Walking along the path she’d pass by a small stream before the city would disappear entirely behind her in the foliage, a gentle stream of sunlight filtering down from above.
Nearby the path split into a small fork, where some helpful info for trainers and people seemed to be posted. A map of the forest and a warning officially issued by the League for novice trainers to stay out of the deeper forest. A girl who looked sorely out of place was standing next to it Lightly dressed, leaning against what seemed to be some sort of motorcycle modified to be good for off roading. Her attention was on her phone, and she seemed mostly to be ignoring everything else, though her eyes occasionally flicked upwards towards the forest.
Otherwise, there was nothing super special to notice here, with route 2 being the main avenue of traffic between Byjerlfal and Giervor. A few houses could be seen for those that wanted a little more peace and quiet outside of the city, but it was mostly just other people going for peaceful walks and the like. Along the river, a few people fishing could be seen out on a pier.
A little further on she could see a small sign and a path that read ‘Winding Wood.”
Now then, she was free to do whatever she wanted from here.
1. Find pokemon (Specify if you’re looking for anything in particular or how you look) 2. Find trainers to battle (Probably not hard to find other trainers to battle here of varying skill levels) 3. Train pokemon. (Skip the grind, and we get to the result. Tell me how you train and if you just grind wild mon or some other creative training) 4. Move along. (Don’t want to engage with anything and move quickly to the next destination? Go ahead, then. A few events may prevent this.) 5. Random event (Want to bully the GM? Ask him to make a random encounter for you that isn’t any of the above or below. Quality will vary.) 6. Area Specific: The white haired gal occasionally glances in your direction. Strike up a conversation? From the mildly impatient way she’s glancing at her phone, she might not be here for much longer. 7. Area Specific: There are a handful of fishermen along the river. Perhaps they might have something interesting. 8. You could always head back to Byjerlfal 9. Alternatively, you can access the Winding wood from here, and carrying on through route 1 will eventually lead you to Pines End.
"Tch, damn." Kaeru frowned, hoping that they could have at least handled this without scaring the girl in some fashion. This just got a lot more complicated. The feline growled lightly, a few sparks of electricity arcing from her hand. Would she be fast enough to intercept that thing if it tried something? Natsumi didn't have to say anything, her muscles were already tensed, ready to leap the first sign that the creature was going to try anything.
She was fast enough, right? She just needed to get it to lower its guard. Besides, her ears picked up something rather interesting that the demon said.
"Natsumi's right. Even if we let you run, you won't get far...but before that, Natsumi...What do you mean by 'getting away from that 'monster?'" She'd question the demon, a small toothy grin forming on her lips. She couldn't help herself but to taunt this thing a bit. "Come to think of it, you don't look like what we're hunting. You just some mob trash that slunk here cuz you're a weak little slimeball?"
Thanking him for his understanding, Nyla fell in line behind Oja, and for most of the trip she'd remain quiet. Thankfully, the trip proved mostly uneventful, aside from passing pleasantries and idle chatter of which, she'd elect not to participate in actively. Only listen. And it was during this listening, that Oja asked both her and Kirei a question, to which Kirei would respond quite...tactlessly, in her opinion. She didn't know the reasons herself either, at least until Oja told them a little of the history, but one should always be delicate around such topics.
"None taken, Lord Oja, and I'm sure Sir Kirei meant nothing by it." Nyla responded. "Yokai are not known for being entirely...agreeable. That is not something I will deny or even hide. Even I myself have..." She'd pause. She probably shouldn't mention anything of her past here. Especially the Convent. especially the Convent. She wondered if there was a temple of some priestesses around here or something. Aaah, she did so love religious wear-wait no stop that she was drooling. "A-ahem...it was another life, that is all I can say, Lord Oja. Just know that I will serve you as faithfully as I can."
A small pause as she'd glance to the side.
"That said, if you'll indulge me my lord...do you have a favorite food?" She gave him a mildly hopeful look, intent likely obvious from what she was going to do with that information.

Okay, so this seemed to go well. Dunstan seemed a bit more talkative now. Claire glanced towards Cathia, considering her options. The more people she told...the safer it'd be if she went a head with the idea. But that also meant more of a chance for someone to rat her out as well...a rat. Snitches get stitches, as they say. But at the same time, going in without any support of any kind would be...well, that'd but her between a rock and a lady that was definitely 100% her type.
So only about 50% bad.
"So uh...I may have something that may...help-weh!" Ralia decided at this specific point, to release herself from her pokeball, and ended up sitting on Claire's head. "Weh hey who said you could come out!" Claire said, grabbing the pokemon and giving her a small bemused glare. "Okay so uh, Heeey, Cathia, we actually met a bit earlier then the park bench. I was in the hideout, too. You might remember me as the gal who totally almost kicked your butt." Claire said with a sigh. "I don't wanna get into details but I was doing a bit of a...lets say I stumbled onto team Amethyst and was scoping their hideout myself and then I got roped into well, battling you with them or else my cover might have been blown."
As long as she played this cool this would be good, no?
"Anyways, uh, this lady, Isabella, gave me her card and specific instructions on who to talk to in Bigfjord. As in, I could...go in and see what all they're up to." Ralia waved to Cathia in a friendly manner.
Aside from telling her not to die from overexcitement (It didn’t seem like a joke) Camphor wouldn’t say anything else to the trio as they left as the broody looking fellow followed her towards the observation area instead of the elevator.
Assuming they didn’t want to speak with the other three trainers, Nevine, Remi, or Laurel who was in the process of leaving already, the small trio were free to leave. As they were doing so, they’d notice a certain broody fellow being tossed back into the reception area by a rather large Grimmsnarl - likely he had annoyed the professor in some manner and was told to get lost. Remi would wave bye regardless.
Heading out from the lab and from its front entrance, the group would soon find themselves back in the heart of the commercial district, skyscrapers reaching upwards into the skies full of various businesses, a large crowd of people moving about their day. Some, clearly on business, others families or tourists simply seeing the sights. Some food stalls with some local specialties were being sold, too.
A flock of Starly briefly had a scuffle with a flock of Murkrow before the two bird types split off. The starly made their way towards the Residential districts, while the Murkrow went to the Industrial, faster than one could scan.
What was more useful for Richard though, was a building that had ‘King Storage’. The ‘I’ was replaced with a stylized Kingambit blade. “Where the King guards your treasure!”. Perhaps a rather too on the nose or typical cringy corporate slogan, all things considered. It was a fairly popular chain of high security storage boxes in Eidda. It likely was the best place to get secure storage. Assuming he’d head inside, he’d be greeted by a friendly fellow.
“Hello, welcome to King Storage.” A friendly tone, at least, and a somewhat bored looking expression. “We can store your items here, free of charge! Well, mostly, we have some other specialized services like instant transport to other cities and access to items from any other city we have a location at with a membership fee but most people just use us to store stuff they don’t want other people getting their hands on.” A usual, likely shortened sales pitch as he’d look up from behind the counter.
Supposing all he did would want to be to leave his stuff here, he’d just have to give some basic contact info, a usual spiel about whether or not he wanted to buy some insurance in the extremely, extremely, small chance anything happened to his items, or if he wanted to sign up for the 10,000p yearly basic membership to access other services such as city-item transport and other things.
It wouldn’t be a very long process at all and his items would be handled with a fair bit of care, and he’d be able to do other things fairly quickly.
Of course, aside from that there was also something that might catch Sophie's attention - The Byjerlfal historical Museum. It wasn’t the biggest or most prestigious Museum and Eidda. IT was more often the target for field trips from the nearby Wailport school, or a more tourist spot. Still, it was well regarded in archaeological and historical circles.
Oh, pair was standing outside having a rather loud argument. Sophie at least would instantly recognize the woman of the group as wearing the uniform of the Eidda Historical Society.
“Tch…haaa, fine. Just let me know when he gets back and that I want to speak with him.”
“Noted. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go fix the mess someone made.”
“It was an accident!”
“Accidents, cost a fortune in historical records, Mr. Riley.” With a dejected, almost angry sigh, the man would take a seat on a bench outside of the museum, head in his hands. Seems like something may have happened that could be slightly interesting…
Rather notably else, however else, was a large sea of green amidst the gray and loud sounds of the city. A large sign hanging over the entrance of it would say. ‘Byjerlfal city park’. From what could be seen, it was a massive park the size of an entire city district by itself, almost. According to a few maps placed outside, a few refreshment stands…might be a good place to get away from the noise of the city and find some pokemon…Laurel could be seen, heading into the park with her Sprigitatio.
Camphors Lab is here. You could go back and say hi, though she probably wont like such a sudden, unannounced, interruption. You may have to go through her apparent Grimmsnarl. You can get to Route 1, 2, and 25 from Byjerlfal. Wouldn’t be too hard to find a way to them. Frieda also mentioned a sea-side cave on route 2. The city park seems like it might be a good place to find some urban pokemon, or some pokemon that live in lightly forested areas. There are also ads displayed for the pokemon contest currently happening. Valerie's face is plastered on almost every electronic billboard. The contest hall was only a short walk away. Residential and Industrial districts are only a few minutes walk from here. Supposing one walks quickly and without interruption. Resort district is also not too far, either. The Gym/Casino is always open, and so are the beaches. If they were looking to buy items, the Pokemart in the Pokemon centers usually sold any trainer related items one could or would need. Provided you have the money and the authorization. Your research pass actually gives you some expanded stock, the professor failed to mention.
Leaving the lab, the pair would find themselves being assaulted by the loud sights, sounds, and noises of Byjerlfal yet again, though this time they were not in such a rush. One thing would become immediately clear - the Contest Master Rank contests were the biggest event right now in all of Byjerlfal. Valaries face was plastered on almost every single large screen, or every single ad accompanied by the faces of every single master rank contestant.
Which coincidentally, had their names and specialties as well.
Clementine, the Serene Painter, and the Papillion Beauty, her partner Cloe the Frosmoth! Hailing from Rossaden, watch as they beautifully dance and weather any storm without a care!
Brigit, the rough and tumble gal from Rivenwall and her ever mischievous and bad-boy partner Wreck the Krookodile!
The Mystical but down to earth country gal from Mireth, Synne, and her partner the ever silent and unreadable Trevvy the Trevenant!
The Flamboyant and well dressed man from Ranorak, and his Elegantly Shy Lurantis, Ranna!
The enigmatic, cool headed but strong of mind and stalwart exorcist from Kantona and his equally unreadably strong partner, Masaru and Kasaru the Annihilape!
At least she’d have some idea about the competition, now if she didn’t already know. All of them seemed pretty good at what they did, judging from how well the posters had been. Of course, Valarie didn’t have one because who didn’t know her? Besides, she got the most screen time anyways. The contest hall was just a short jaunt away, though she’d likely be a bit early for the contests to start but hey, who said that VIP pass had to be waited to be used.
Perhaps Valarie would find the initiative amusing.
There seemed to be a small commotion over by the Museum visible not too far away. See the first section of the post if you want to get involved in that. There was also the large City Park that could be accessed from the Commercial, Residential, and Industrial areas, being centrally located made it easy and a nice walk for anyone looking to cross sections of the city, some pokemon could likely be found there.
A small flock of Starly flew overhead, being chased by a flock of Murkrow, faster than scanning would allow…they’d seem to split off after a brief scuffle to the Residential and Industrial districts.
Oh, they could see Laurel, too. She was heading into the park with her Sprigitatio.
Otherwise, they were free to do whatever else they wanted too.

Yuu had his arm crossed the entire time the professor's assistant was elucidating them on the equipment, silently nodding and mentally noting how different this Pokedex had looked when compared to the design his parents had. Jojo on the other hand was sitting atop one of Yuu's shoulders, lightly swinging its feet as it leaned in with avid curiosity whilst Vivi floated nearby Yuu's other shoulder with it's mouth in an o, wiggling its antenna as it raised an electronic eyebrow before looking back at itself.
Yuu rolled a hand out from underneath his arms, extending it outwards as the assistant dropped the research device into his hand. It was a lot more compact than Vivi, that was for certain as he rolled the Pokedex in his hand and flipped it on its side between his fingers before breaking away his crossed arms to hold it up to Vivi for comparison. The Rotom-phone whirred, confused by the action as Yuu's eye's drifted back to the sardonic Professor who was just begging her assistants not to call her, ever.
As much as he found some of the listed functions quite convenient, he doubt it would completely replace Vivi. Whilst Yuu kept his ears peeled, he felt some squirming around on his shoulder and a paw wrapping around the side of his neck and a soft ear brushing against his cheek. Yuu glanced back over to Jojo who was clearly curious as well, poking their nose in to get a better look at the Pokedex; Vivi, of course, was doing the same.
Yuu quickly flicked it on, watching the device flicker to life and began loading multiple systems whilst beginning the registration process. Yuu swiftly entered all the relevant information, only to be met with a mini-Camphor giving its own report on his partner with a touch of the Professor's flair. "Interesting," Yuu rolled out every syllable, looking back over to Jojo as he stared wide eyed at the picture of himself that appeared on screen.
The information was solid and concise, though he squinted at the part where it mentioned a lack of special attributes, as well as the fact that Jojo possessed an egg move, something Yuu was already aware of. While impressed at the robust system, he could only ponder on what that special attribute could mean, flicking the device into sleep-mode before popping in into his pocket after he finished acquiring the money from his first catch.
Procuring the extra supplies, Yuu watched as the other assistant began to rally the freshly-minted group of assistants to follow her out of the labs. Yuu was not one of those people and as such lingered back as the group followed the assistant out, much like how those baby Pokemon were following that Teddiursa from earlier.
Pivoting around, Yuu silently followed the smaller Professor out into the observation area, "Professor Camphor; couldn't help but overhear your conversation with that one psychic girl with Sir Lopsalot and wanted to follow up with a couple of my own." Yuu cleared his own throat as he approached, "I overheard the possibility of ghost types lingering about Byjerlfal. While I don't know how often you leave the lab, do you happen to know of any derelict places with machinery, mayhaps a deserted factory of sorts, or even an abandoned toy shop?" “That’s called trespassing you idiot.” Camphor retorted with an eye roll as she headed out of the habitat. “Can’t just waltz into most ‘abandoned’ places in a city, they’re still owned and vandals aren't something they want. If you want some ghost pokemon just hang around at night. The Industrial or commercial districts would be your best bet.” A button press on the elevator, not waiting for Yuu to even get on before doing so. “Besides, most places don’t remain abandoned long here in Byjerlfal.”
"Hmph, fair point, but that doesn't exactly stop Pokemon from waltzing in from time to time and making it their home now does it," Yuu mused out loud to the Professor, shrugging slightly as Jojo bounced alongside it, gleefully kicking its feet as their partner continued talking, "doesn't hurt to take a look, though I'll keep your words in mind for my evening excursion." Yuu nodded shallowly before eyes shifted towards the elevator, quickly following after the Professor and sliding on in before the doors could even close.
Positioning himself to the side of the Professor, Yuu crossed his arms, staring at the floor before staring directly at Camphor, "Beyond that, I'm curious about another location that was mentioned during your talk." Yuu's voice became deathly serious, more so than the matter-of-fact tone he was displaying before as he continued, "What can you tell me about the Winding Woods, as well as that manor in particular."
“I’m not bailing you out if you get in trouble, brat.” Camphor responded with a humph, giving Yuu a sidelong glance as he’d inquire about the manor. “I can’t stop you from going, but just know that if you do the place is infested with ghost-types. Last time a novice trainer went there well…” A palpable pause as the elevator reached the observation floor, a ding from the elevator ringing in turn. “...if it wasn’t for Giervor’s gym leader the kid might not have come back at all. Apparently the League’s asked for help from a ghost-type expert from Kantona to look into finally investigating, last I heard.”
"A ghost-type expert, huh," the city of Kantona meant little to him, aside from the fact that it sounded awfully a lot like Kanto. Yuu mused silently for a moment, ruminating on this information as he rubbed the bottom of his chin before pursing his lips. A ghost-type expert... his mind drifted back to the ship and that strange trainer with the Annihilape aboard the ship who, now that he thought about it, dressed up in traditional Johto or Kanto clothing. He clicked the roof of his mouth and snapped his fingers, causing Jojo and Riolu to recoil in surprise.
"One of Valarie's contest stars, huh," Yuu silently mused to himself, just barely recalling something a faceless person in the crowd uttered. Of course, that was followed by him groaning, and pinching the bridge of his nose, "Huuugh... crap... I guess I'll have to stop by the contest hall in this place... great..." Yuu sighed, feeling knots in his stomach forming as he mentally shuddered over memories of his childhood and even some school plays that he got dragged into because of who his mother was.
He felt a small patting against the side of his head, glancing on over to see Jojo rustling his hair and nuzzling his cheek against Yuu, prompting him to smile back at the Riolu and give him a small scritch in return. "I'm going to hope this contest hall is less gaudy than the one in Hearthome, otherwise," Yuu scrunched up his nose and let out a small 'bleh' before shivering.
"Still, thanks for pointing me in the direction of that expert because there was no way in hell you were dissuading me from going," Yuu spoke as if that was a matter of fact. Should the Professor exit the elevator Yuu would follow her, but would otherwise follow up with another question.
"Moving on, I'm more curious about that purple and white box your silver-haired assistant delivered to the lab. If you don't mind me asking, what exactly does it contain?"
“Heh.” Camphor would walk over to the observation window, glancing down at the habitat. A few more lab workers were down there now that everyone else had cleared out. “Who knows.” Camphor didn’t say anything else on the matter before shoving a hand in her lab coat. “Now stop bothering me before I make you go down there and fight an angry Primeape to see how many rage fists it takes to level up.”
"Oh and I thought we were getting oh so well acquainted with one another," Yuu dryly replied with what looked to be an attempted wry smirk on his face which ended up really only looking more like a frown as he followed her to her side and remained conjoined a small distance away from her. "I've got many, many more questions, but I'll limit them to just two and get out of your hair... maybe three, though the last one is more innocuous than anything." Glancing to the side, Yuu noticed how Jojo was leaning off his shoulder to the point where he could potentially fall off.
In one deft movement, Yuu snatched Jojo off his shoulder, gently spun around and swung him through the air to his delight before placing him down. The Riolu then walked up to the glass, pressing its nose and paws against it, staring at the habitats in awe, all while Vivi joined him in this sightseeing with an exciting whir. "It just involves our Research ID's, as well as our preliminary job of catching Pokemon," Yuu cleared his throat as he put his hands into his pockets in kind. "Through catching Pokemon and performing whatever miscellaneous jobs for you that you request of us, will we be able to gain further level's on our Research ID's? Furthermore, with the Pokemon we catch..."
Yuu paused for a moment, going silent as he stared down at the excitable duo as he began to collect his thoughts before looking back to the habitats. "I could be overthinking this but I know there's no way we'll be able to catch every single Pokemon in this region and even if we do, there will be multitudes potentially just sitting in storage that we are unable to care for, or even bring along for our journey even with your specialize Pokedex at our disposal."
The purple-haired boy stared downwards, his frown growing ever deeper as his visage displayed an even more somber look than before, "I know releasing them is one option, but are there any other options available for how to handle this state of affairs now that I'm working here as an assistant? Like adoption as an example."
“Impress me enough, maybe you will..” Camphor responded simply to the first part of the question, not bothering to elaborate. “Haaa…generally, pokemon you box will be taken care of here, by the lab. We’ll feed them, play with ‘em, whatever. Either here or at various locations across Eidda. If you don’t wanna keep them…” Camphor paused for a moment, seeming to mull something over. “...I guess you could give them to me. I’ll compensate you accordingly. They’ll be used for research or maybe I’ll give them to other trainers. I’ll find something to do with them, maybe even release them myself.”
"Good... good, that's all I needed to know," Yuu let out a soft breath of relief upon hearing that statement that they would be cared for, that they'd find a good home, or potentially a good job working for Professor Camphor. He was a little rigid and tense during that question, but his worries seemed to melt away as his shoulders went a bit slack as his eyes shifted back to his partner, watching him happily interact with Vivi and press their paw against the glass to point something else.
And as for her other comment, "As for impressing you... would winning a fight against that Primeape you mention count?" Yuu instantly cleared his throat the moment he asked that question, trying to redirect the conversation from his rather dry reply. "That's not my final question by the by, just a silly hypothetical. My real final question is much more important than that..."
Yuu held his breath, letting the false anticipation settle in as he continued, "What... is your favorite Pokemon type? Also for a bonus, favorite Pokemon if you feel like answer that one."
“No, that just tells me how dumb you are.” Camphor responded curtly, giving him a small frown at his second question…before her mouth turned into an unusual grin. “Favorite type, eh?” Camphor chuckled. “...Hey, let me ask a question for once, Yuu. You ever…hear of a folktale involving a forest monster and a young girl?”
Yuu squinted his eyes at the petite Professor, raising an eyebrow as he scrutinized her own mischievous demeanor etched through her peculiar smile. He briefly meditated on the relatively simple and straightforward question, more trying to discern if she was trying to hint at her favorite Pokemon typing, Pokemon itself, or something else as opposed to just answering it. "I have," Yuu alluded to his answer, briefly shifting his eyes away from Camphor before glancing back to her and replying "Little Red Riding Hood, correct?"
“I guess there are quite a few with that setup, eh.” Camphor huffed. “But no no, nothing like that. No, this is something that’s a bit more…local. Go ask the people of Verlisa about it. Anyways, the story goes pretty simply.” The Professor would take a seat on a nearby chair, leaning back a little and starting to talk.
“The forests of Verlisa are a pretty scary place. Everyone always says to avoid going too far off the beaten path lest the forest gobbles you up. A little girl, smart as a Alakazam but with a room-temp social ability would decide that, nah, that’s fine and head into the forest one night, with nothing more than a lantern at her side to light the way.” Camphor would pause a moment, throwing an arm over the back of the chair and continuing. “So deeper into the forest she goes, curiosity taking over reason. Surely, it can’t be that scary! So many cute pokemon live here! And lo and behold, she eventually finds a cute little fairy that wants to play with her, so she does, until it gets late into the night and she has to head home.”
“She decides to go again the next night. Strangely, she thinks, the fairy takes a little longer to get to. It happens again the next night…then the next…then the next. Until one day…the Girl realizes she is completely, hopelessly lost in the forest.” A pause, as Yuu would hear something move behind him, though if he looked he’d see nothing.
"Local? This sounds more like it's a little more personal than that," Yuu quietly yet sarcastically mused to himself the moment Professor Camphor described the protagonist of this so-called 'folktale.' He quietly sighed, keeping a keen eye on her movements, even as she remained somewhat still as she recounted this tale, mentally commenting on certain story beats as he felt an awkward bead of sweat roll down the side of his head.
"Did she really have to mask her own autobiography under the veneer of being a folktale? While I can ration a guess at her favorite type of Pokemon... I wonder why she decided to go about it in such a roundabo-" Before Yuu even had a chance to finish that thought, he felt a chill run down his spine as he heard dissimilar shuffling behind him and instantly whipped his entire body around in one deft pivot to steal a glance.
Yet, there was nothing there. Yuu kept his relatively stoic demeanor up as he sharply studied the empty observatory behind him, finding only Jojo and Vivi still blissfully enjoying the scenery, with the former now holding the latter and being instructed on how to take photos. He grimaced as he turned back to face Camphor, mentally chiding himself for turning away, even briefly.
"So what exactly happened to the girl? Did she get scared and try to find her way back or continue searching for her friend," Yuu probed the Professor, seemingly urging her to continue the tale. Despite his focal point being the Professor, Yuu was obviously more guarded now as he kept a lookout via the corners of his eyes.
“Patience, brat, I’m getting to that.” Camphor curtly responded. “Ahem. The girl realized, she was hopelessly lost. Having ignored the warnings of the people, she ventured further and further into the forest and now she had no way back. As she’d raise her lantern, trying to see through the shadows all she saw were trees, twisted into cackling demons - and two piercing red eyes glaring at her from the underbrush. A horrible creature leaped out, and it started to chase the girl through the forest as rain started to fall.” Camphor took a moment to pull her phone out of her pocket, seemingly disinterested in all of this, though she’d continue anyways.
“She ran until her lungs burned, soaked from head to toe, exhausted, covered in mud, clothes ripped and torn….soon she’d find shelter. A small cave, cut into the earth just big enough for her to take shelter in. As she’d leaned against the rock wall, trying to catch her breath and pray that whatever it was wasn’t chasing her…something crawled against her shoulder.”
In the same instance that Camphor spoke, Yuu would feel a weight on his shoulder.
Yuu was deadly silent during the rest of her retelling as she began to describe the feelings and abject terror in the girl's eyes, seeing fiends where there might have been just a mischievous Fairy type playing a prank on her. Pulling his arms from his pockets, he began to glower a little as he crossed his arms, nails digging into his coat as he slightly bore his canines. It wasn't just terror he felt from this point of the story, it was desperation. The girl dug too deep, much like him and... her.
Yuu began to reimagine his own burning lungs, his own tears, his own desperation that resembled the girl in the story... no, it was probably more apt to call the girl Camphor at this point. Even now he was haunted by those memories as his imagination overlapped the story with his own sordid past as he began gritting his own teeth. Even when he ran so far, it still managed to follow him here through this story.
No, no... it was just a story from her past... probably. Nothing more, nothing less. His own breathing had become hoarse as well and compounded with the weight he felt on his... shoulders...
Wait a minute, Jojo never clambered back onto his shoulders. "Damnit," Yuu hissed through his teeth. He let his guard down in that fleeting moment, the climax of this whole story and now there was someone or something on his shoulder. Yuu let out a dry sigh. He wasn't going to shy away from this as he arched his head behind him, glaring at whatever was on his shoulder with a deathly, piercing stare.
“Snnrrrrl?” Standing behind him, hand on his shoulder, was a Grimmsnarl. Not just an average Grimmsnarl either- this one was about as big as he was.
“Boy you have the lamest reactions.” Camphor said with an eye roll. “Anyways, there’s the answer to your question right there. Nix, show Yuu out of the lab now will you? I'm done playing fifty pointless questions.”
“Grrrim.” The Grimsnarrl proceeded to wrap its hand around Yuu’s waist and started to lift.
"Hey, it's not my fault your story s- WHA-?! HEY, HEY, WAI- WAI- WAIT, Yuu couldn't help but yelp in surprise as his face near instantly contorted from a stoic yet sullen visage to one of abject shock as his eyes widened as his his scowl shifted to a more startled frown as he felt his feet were... well, they were still touching the floor or rather dragging against it.
Still didn't stop him from struggling to break free from the Grimmsnarls bindings, pushing against their shoulder and even squirming in some vain attempt to wiggle out of their grip. "Uggh! This is... completely... unnecessary," Yuu exclaimed, wincing as he still tried to wriggle out of his vice grip, "I can show myself... out on my own! Nix does NOT!... have... to... do this!"
Yuu peered to the side, witnessing both how Jojo and Vivi were ready to throw down with the Pokemon that was just as big as him, with one lacking any sort of offensive or defensive abilities and the other being completely green to this whole situation. Jojo was imitating the stance Yuu took up from their earlier encounter and Vivi was whirring about, angrily shouting or rather buzzing and making electronic sounds that, in Pokemon speak, sounded like they were telling Nix to let Yuu go.
Yuu would soon find himself flung over Nix’s shoulder, upper body dangling from the large pokemon’s back. The Grimmsnarl completely ignored both Jojo and Vivi, their attacks doing little more than tickling the likely higher level pokemon. Yuu would find himself being carried along the path back to the reception hall, and then unceremoniously dumped by the Grimmsnarl right back on the other side of the reception desk.
Nix would subsequently leave and leave him back in the reception hall.
“Oof, looks like someone managed to annoy the professor.” The familiar voice of Remi would greet Yuu. Nevine was sitting on the chair still, lazily tossing her head in there direction. Laurel seemed to have already left, though. “What’d she book you for? Asking too many questions or touching something you weren’t supposed to?” He’d chuckle, offering a hand to help Yuu up.
“...So when are we leaving, Remi…?”
“Well, the professor said she had something else for us but she seems like she’s not feeling very sociable any more so…might as well head out sooner than later? I wanna go visit Pines End.”
“...mhm…okay.”
“That said, Nevvy…hmm…what do either of you say to a battle?” Remi would turn to Yuu and anyone else still present. “Doubles with Nevine and I? Or think you guys can handle me on your own?” Remi was confident, if nothing else. Nevine seemed to not be too interested in battling, but didn’t seem like she’d say no if challenged, either.
“Oof, I am so glad that’s over with.” Frieda stretched, holding her arms up and stretching her hands. “How are you feeling, Camila? I know this is rather sudden but, well, she trusts you more than the trainers and I guess she’d figure you’re better at field work than I am.” Frieda offered Camilia a small smile. “Oh, speaking of-she told me to give you this as a thank you. Let me see your ID?”
Assuming she did-
”Camila’s Lab ID has been upgraded to level 2 access!”
“She said she’s been meaning to do it for a while, but you know how busy she can get. Don’t know the specifics of what it’ll let you do, but you should be able to at least bring yourself into actual labs and stuff in other affiliated labs. Also you know, you’re free to come back any time. I’m sure the professor won’t mind you too much. Also you know, call me instead if you need anything I’ll talk to the professor for you.”
”Camila Recieved Frieda’s number!”
” Anyways, good luck! I’m gonna miss having someone else to babysit-er, help the professor with work. The other interns and assistants always slack off too much, too…"
You’re in Camphor’s lab, but she’s probably not feeling very sociable right now. The contest hall is currently holding a master-rank championship contest. Perhaps you could inquire how you could participate yourself. The resort area is famous for its well, resort. Sandy, sunny beaches, amusement park, Casino…and gym. Its often considered the toughest gym in the region. You can get to Route 1, Route 2, and Route 25 from Byjerlfal. Neither of the three routes are particularly dangerous. Frieda mentioned a cave system on Route 2. Perhaps there could be something interesting in the Commercial district or the Industrial district. You also saw a park on the way to the lab. Might be a good place to start, if you really wanted to stay in the city or avoid heading out, for a bit.
“Graziei.” Cassandre responded, offloading the kid onto Polina. “Now if you’ll excuse me-” Cassandre would walk towards the fighting, unflinchingly walking into the fray as the Demon Lord plucked the feathers from his wings. A prayer would follow, a verse from the Orosian scriptures, and all at once the space between the maid and the Paladin would twist and spasm, and then fall still as though time had ceased to exist for the feathers and the space between them.
“Don’t just stand there, maid, it won’t last long!” Madeline shouted and moved swiftly, halbered at her side, the feathers suspended in air-
“krrrr-aw!” Camio screeched, more feathers of metal were plucked and melded in Camio’s hand into long, whip like metal wires. He swung them downwards, Madeline not in any position to deflect or defend as the sharp, fast moving metal weapons moved towards her-
"Nngh..." meanwhile, the boy that Polina was holding onto was slowly rousing back to consciousness. "D-dad...? He's...always angry..." Shaking his head. "Gh...what happened...M-mom she...hurt me...?"
It was perhaps an odd choice of strategy, but it wasn’t entirely without merit.
The sphere that had been used to seal the diminutive demon back in cogsfell would be tossed onto the ground.
“Ha?” Understandably, the woman was confused until the sphere itself shook violently from side to side, a large crack running down its middle before shattering entirely. In a violent surge of magical energy, from within came a -
“Puyo?” Neither Eliz or Lyssa had been there for the previous confrontation, so Katherine pulling a demon out of her dress from nowhere was more than a little surprising. The demon took a quick look around, wondering why exactly she had been released from the sealing stone, but ultimately her gaze fell back on Katherine. “NNgh, hey you stuuuupid mortal why the hell and where the hell am I now! You better tell me before I eat you whole!”
“...Xivi?”
“Puya?!” The little demon jumped at hearing the familiar to her voice, turning around, the fronds on top of her head twitching excitedly. “M-mom?!” The two demons stared down each other, tension visible between the two of them, neither seemingly want to make the first move. A few long, tense seconds passed…then Xivi, the small demon, then with the agility and swiftness she had shown back at Cogsfell, leaped towards the possessed woman.
“Xivi?!” The small demon, proceeded to sink her teeth right into what was apparently her mothers wrist, causing her to hiss in pain, blood dripping from the wound - but also causing her to drop the Idol and send it clattering to the ground a few feet away. “Tch-Stupid, Ungrateful-bitch!”
Xivis tail was grabbed, and subsequently Slammed into the ground, then punted back across the room like a ball, landing back in front of Katherine as she’d skid to a halt.
“...consider us even, you dumb mortal.” Xivi huffed.
“Tch…” The idol was now about halfway between the possessed woman and the Maids. “Of course, of all things, you’d somehow manage to bring my worthless daughter here.”
“You’re just seething I’m the one that put you in that Idol, you old hag. Maybe this time I should just eat you whole and make a soup out of your skin and bones. That sounds delicious, mother dearest.” Xivi turned her attention to the gathered maids. “I don’t know what’s going on nor do I care, but if I can beat up that thing over there I’ll help.”
“Weh! We can’t kill the possessed woman! That’d be bad!” Lyssa interjected.
“Cry me a bloody river, pig-face.”
“...I don’t eat that much cake…”
There were still at a standoff, but they were in a much more favorable position, they just had to get their hands on the Idol now and then restrain the possessed woman.
“Don’t get ahead of yourselves.” Xrael responded. “It took that one and a small army to put me under the first time.” The demon started walking, crimson fire burning in her palm. “Like hells I’m gonna let it happen again!”
"Indeed, it seems we do well together." Svarok said, nodding and not particularly caring Carmina had called dibs on whatever it was the goblin was carrying. She'd help the other orcling carry the goblin to the other ones, and once she had done so she'd drop the goblin on top of the other ones body. "We should make a fire. It should at least make the taste...palatable." Svarok said, taking a look around the forest now. It seemed as though the scuffle had scared the other critters off. Well, that was fine. Svarok would take a moment to collect a few of the stones then head over to the berries.
Hopefully they would be edible.
"Carmina, was it?" Svarok said, turning to her. "I have a question for you if you'll indulge me. What do you think of God? Of any. Don't worry I'm not going to preach, I am merely curious and looking for something."
