So, I don’t have a cool introductory pitch-paragraph at the moment, I’m mainly looking to gauge interest before I devote myself to creating an entire fantasy world (and ideally I’d like to get some input from the players regarding the setting anyway) but I’m gonna set the scene a little:

In a derelict set of ruins that used to be a town, a family of 5 huddle silently, praying that they are not found. The father’s elven ears are more sensitive than his human wife’s or their half-elf children, all of whom are staring at him with looks of fear and hope. He hears one of the raiders, a Human, order 3 of his men to check the bank, and sends their biggest man, an Orc by the name of “Gut-Chewer”, to check the pharmacy. The father cannot hide his panic, in seconds the Orc will find him and his children, and without weapons they don’t stand a chance. So he does what he knew he would always need to do, hands his wife his wand and kisses her goodbye, before surrendering himself. His head decorated the hood of Gut-Chewer’s car the next morning, but the lynching is long enough for his family to flee.

Elsewhere, a Dragonborn rides a motorcycle down a dusty desert road, sawn-off shotgun strapped to his back and an egg in the sidecar. To his knowledge he’s the last of his kind, and his life’s mission has become the protection of this rare egg. He senses something wrong, and slows the bike to a stop. The Egg is cold, despite his best efforts the chill of the desert at night cannot be dismissed by a few blankets. He stops for the night and sets a campfire, knowing the risk of attracting raiders all too well, but life has become a constant state of risks for him, The Last Dragonborn.

In the distance we see an old fortress, a castle still standing after all this time. Inside, a vibrant community of Gnomes sleeps soundly, knowing their clockwork traps and automata will keep them safe from outsiders. Children are soothed by the sounds of grinding gears and the occasional explosion as a mine is tripped outside, yet despite all of their traps and robotic patrols, we see one lone figure, a woman with grey skin and ram’s horns, silently scales the castle walls. She knows these gnomes have an abundance of resources stockpiled, enough to feed her and her companions for months, but she isn’t there to steal all that they have. Instead she creeps silently to the storeroom, disarms the traps on the door and disables the automaton guard with a swift dagger to his power supply. In 30 seconds the backup power supply will engage and the guard will reawaken, so she throws handfuls of packaged meats and a few canned vegetables into a backpack and flees. The gnomes won’t notice the missing supplies for weeks, but this rogue and her friends will be well-fed in the meantime.

A goblin woman sits on a rooftop with a scimitar, a pistol and 3 bullets left. Down below, a horde of insane mutants pound against the front door, desperate to get inside and consume anyone within. Her 3 companions have already wasted half her ammo on blowing their own brains out, so the choice is left to her. Kill herself or wait for a miracle. Then a thought hits her brain, and she chucks her former companions' corpses over the edge of the building. The mutants immediately jump to devour them, but she isn’t going to waste her only opportunity by grieving. She sticks the revolver in its holster and then pulls up her hood, leaping into the fray of mutants squabbling for a snack. She lands on top of one and leaps to the next, using her small size to nimbly avoid falling into their grasp. By the time she reaches the end, many have started to chase her, but she’s nothing if not quick.

The basic idea for this rp is that it takes place in a fantasy world where all of human history took place up to and including the creation of the atomic bomb (though with a lot more magic thrown in, so it’s like an 80% atomic and 20% Arcane bomb) and then we nuked ourselves to hell and back. Now the survivors of an irradiated world of magic and monsters have to struggle to survive with limited resources and under the constant fear of raiders and mutants. We'll each play a survivor in a little community (typical Walking Dead style group of survivors who each have their own drama going on as well as constantly fighting for their lives), we wander the wastelands in search of supplies, battle monsters and men alike, cast spells and blast shotguns at fools, all that good stuff.
I’d be interested in giving this ago. Ratfolk have lots of roguish potential.
@Eric Horst I think there’s room so long as you get your character in quick, we’re starting tomorrow.

I imagine Kyle looks basically like Daniel Avidan, the absolute legend that he is.

Describe the nature of your Atypical abilities.

Okay, so....This is gonna sound a little crazy, but I can kind of possess people? Like, I leave my body and enter theirs and take control of them, like some kinda ghost or demon or something? I don't really understand it too well yet, but I did it twice by accident and then once on purpose. I can only do it with people who are closeby, because the brief moments of going between bodies get a lot less brief and a lot more painful the further apart we are. I dunno, I've not exactly been testing it out so far. My own body seems to just fall unconscious when I do this, though.

Briefly describe the series of events that led to who, what and where you are today.

Okay, so I had kind of a near-death experience a couple months ago. I was working as a delivery driver (or I guess a delivery cyclist) and got hit by a taxi and had one of those out-of-body experiences where I was watching my body as the doctors worked on me, and it was the scariest thing I'd ever experienced until I woke up in hospital a week later and realised I had woken up in a body which wasn't mine! It was only for a couple minutes before that coma patient collapsed and I went screaming back to my own unresponsive body, but...Yeah, it was pretty freaky. I'm out of hospital now, though my doctors tell me I won't be able to ride a bike or do much of anything physical for a while so I'm mostly on bedrest. Since I left the hospital, I accidentally possessed my friend's chihuahua for 7 hours (unpleasant, do not recommend) and then in order to get back to my own body I intentionally possessed my friend so I could drive back to my house. I feel bad about it, 'cause I kind of screwed with the nature of free will and stuff, but when she got control back from me she didn't seem to even realise I'd been in control for the past 40 minutes. It's creepy, I know.

How would you describe your appearance to someone who is blind?

Well, I'm 5'8 with curly brown hair, pale skin and a sorta skinny build (some have called me gaunt). I've got some patchy facial hair and the most noticeable fashion statement I'm rocking atm is my cane. It's for walking, my legs still aren't great. I'm also super handsome, just trust me on that.

How would you describe your personality? Likes and Dislikes?

I'm usually a pretty easy-going guy, I like indie music, drawing pictures of pigeons, being able to afford my medical bills (oh wait I super cannot do that last one) and I definitely dislike being an 8-inch tall rodent in a dog costume who doesn't even have thumbs! (Seriously, I cannot stress enough how awful it is to be a chihuahua. I'd take getting hit by a car any day. We should apologise for breeding them into existence)

What is your current state of mind?

Pretty bad?? Like I'm looking at a life of back pain and needing a cane to walk, and to top all of that off now I'm some kind of haunted. It's not ideal??

If your current place of residence was destroyed under mysterious circumstances, which of your belongings would you attempt to recover from the rubble?

I mean, I shouldn't be moving rubble with my back, but I guess I'd want to get my artbooks. Maybe my Nintendo Switch. This question feels overtly threatening.

What is making you happy right now?

Well. That's a great question.....I guess my neighbour, Mrs Zhang. When she heard about the accident she came and visited me in hospital a bunch, and she comes round every few days when I'm stuck inside and keeps me company. I get the impression that I'm also keeping her company when she does this, but I'm glad for it. Also she makes amazing dumplings.

How did you hear about AA, and what made you want to attend?,

There was a flyer that came through my door, I dunno who put it through there but nobody else in my building seemed to get one. I'm like 30% certain that this is some kind of trap and I'm gonna end up murdered in the back of a van but after what happened to me I kinda can't turn down the opportunity to find out more.

What is your greatest fear?

If I die....do I stop existing? Or will I just possess someone nearby and become some kind of bodysnatching horror villain...?

If you could give up your atypical abilities, would you?

Yeah, I mean, I wanna say yes for certain. I do sometimes have the thought that I could just go back to the hospital and get coma-guy back on his feet again, it would be great to just be back in a regular pain-free body even just for a little while..but that has gotta be unethical, right? I shouldn't be tempted.

Please suggest any refreshments you'd like to see at the next AA meeting.

Is it weird to ask for milk? I'm technically lactose intolerant but I love the stuff and stomach pain is the least of my problems at this point.
@over easy I've sent you a pm with my sheet, in case it needs approval beforehand
I'm very interested in this!!!
Oh! I should probably add some setting preferences:

I love Sci-fi, adore fantasy and am simply head over heels for post-apocalyptic settings.
I also can’t help but love the smashing of 2 settings together (my current D&D campaign is set in a post-apocalyptic fantasy world with arcane radiation storms and raiders and mutants and people battling not over limited resources but magical artefacts of tremendous power).

I also love superhero settings, any time I get to play as regular Joe Shmoe but I also get to shoot lightning out of my hands is a good one. Althougu 65% of the superpowered characters I make are shapeshifters in some form because that’s just the coolest.

I’ve not got a tonne of experience with cyberpunk but I’d be interested in learning more. Steampunk and clockpunk and frostpunk and various other punks have been pretty good to me so far, so I’m down.

I also really like small characters? So many of the characters I make are just tiny. Halflings and hobbits and gnomes and weird alien ants and alien murder-koalas and sometimes just regular human people who are much shorter than average? I enjoy.
Hey there everybody,

As said above I’m Ryan, I used to roleplay all the time on the nanowrimo forums and the Nerdfighteria forum before that, I had a lot of fun with that but since that time both of those forums have lost their roleplaying crowd somewhat. It’s been a couple years since I did any roleplaying in text form (though I’ve been doing tabletop stuff and DMed multiple D&D campaigns since then) and I’d like to get back into the swing of it.

I like longer-post roleplaying because I wanna flex my creative writing fingers, but I’d be up for just about anything, since I’m just starting out again.

Outside of roleplaying, I love video games, analysing movies and tv shows, coming up with more characters than I’ll ever use, listening to podcasts, watching YouTube videos and (as mentioned briefly before) Dungeons and Dragons. Other facts about me: I’m 21, Scottish, I have never drank alcohol and I don’t know how to do most things. 👍👍👍
