Eliza Brindelwood
The Garden
She saw him look at her ears and she flushed a bright pink. She quickly sat down on the bend next to him and smiled softly, staring down at her hands. "You're lucky... At least you don't have to live in fear of seeing your parents," she murmured quietly. She took a deep breath and began, "In the village where I lived, there are many different species. I'm sure that you know that now after seeing me." She tucked a strand of brown back behind her ear and wiggled them, showing off the points. "Well, life there is amazing. There's just one simple rule: you cannot breed two different species together."
She lifted a shaking hand to drew the flower out from behind her hair. She stared down at its white beauty and started up again. "My father met my mother on one of his hikes through the woods. They fell in love almost immediately and were married within three months. No one frowned upon that, as long as they didn't mate, as the leaders of the village would say. They tried very hard not to, but elf bodies are an unusual thing." She smiled carefully, twisting the flower in her hands. "My mother became pregnant with me. Out of fear for their lives, they hid away in my father's mountain home and stayed there for a very long time. I was born nine months later, but people then were already getting suspicious. So, my father and mother went back down and kept me hidden from the town."
Eliza's hands were trembling hard and as she continued to tell the story, the twisted the flower around in her hand, ripping one of the petals. "I stayed hidden for fourteen years until someone caught word of a creature like me. You see, funny thing is, secrets don't stay hidden for very long, especially with many different species around. So, when my father found out that others knew about me, he sent me here." She gestured around them, making sure he knew it was the academy. "He wanted me to find my happiness here." A lone tear streamed down her face and she sniffed. "But how can I be happy without a family? I can't even have a family of my own." She pressed a palm to her lower stomach and took a deep, shuddering breath before looking over at Oliver. She gave him a watery smile. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to depress you."

Ryko and Connor Quick
The Cafe
“If he doesn’t like something he should say something about it.” Connor smiled softly at this comment, still walking behind Claudia. He shook his head and watched as his brother entered the cafe. Connor clasped his hands back behind his waist and picked up his pace slightly so he would be even with Claudia.
"He won't say anything," Connor said after her final comment. "Whatever I have or want, he'll want and the same thing around. I guess it's a good thing that we got paired to the same girl." Connor snorted quietly. "That way we wouldn't be fighting over each other's matches." He then noticed the bruising and redness on her face and he frowned. "Where'd you get those?" He pointed to the bruise and the bump.
Ryko, unable to hear most of the conversation behind him, immediately found a booth in one of the far corners of the cafe. He took a deep breath and tapped his fingers against the table, adjusting himself multiple times to where he looked the most relaxed. This was ridiculous! Why was he so nervous? She was just a girl. Ryko shook his head at himself and sighed, running a hand through his dark hair. Keep it together, dammit! he thought to himself. He glanced up and saw Connor talking with the girl just outside the cafe. Why weren't they coming in?
Ryko growled under his breath and slouched in the booth. Connor was probably buttering the chick up, as per usual with him. God, why was his brother such an idiot sometimes?! Of course, he was the one who had stormed away without saying anything. That's when he noticed Connor pointing to a bruise and a bump on Claudia's face. Ryko narrowed his eyes. What in the hell...?
