NameAnthony "Tony" Edward Stark
Age34
Superhero IdentityIronman (Still a secret)
DescriptionTony is a little on the shorter side (for the average guy) standing at five foot seven. He has short brown hair and eyes. He is quite fashionable and keeps up with the latest styles or even sets trends himself depending on his mood. His chest his hideously scarred from his time in Afghanistan. There is also a miniaturized arc reactor where his heart used to be. He has some residual scars elsewhere from the same torture, but they have mostly faded having been designed for pain not mutilation. He does have scars all over his hands from lab accidents but those don't bother him.
HistoryWWII Comes to AmericaIn 1941 a young genius by the name of Howard Stark is recruited by the military. The young man was top of his class in he nation with his work in engineering. Howard quickly excels and earns a spot in the Project Rebirth experiment. Working alongside Dr. Erskine the two are able to create a new super soldier serum. The young volunteer Steve Rogers was the first guinea pig. Howard had his doubts about the serum after hearing about the failed attempts the Dr. had had back in Germany. But despite the odd they duo succeeded. Steve Rogers went from a scrawny sickly young man to the epitome of masculine beauty and fitness. But just moments later after Rogers was deemed a success a saboteur shot Erskine and fled. Howard was left behind to watch his partner die and his hopes of making more the serum die with him.
Dr. Erskine had been a paranoid man. He hadn't trusted Howard with the formula. Nor did he even trust paper. Without the other half of the experiment Project Rebirth was disbanded. Steve Rogers was set off to become "Captain America" and be the Army's poster boy. Howard returns to making weapons to support the war effort. Over the next few years both Howard and Rogers form a tentative friendship. The young genius was quickly wooed by Roger's self assurance and strong grasp of right and wrong. When Steve died in 1944 Howard never quite believed he died. Even over the years he refused to believe it unless someone showed him the body. But even then he said he would remain skeptical.
Life after the WarAfter WWII ended Howard returned to the States and started up his own company with the Army's money and promised contracts. In 1946 Stark Industries officially become on of the more premier weapons manufacturing company in the United States. Howard quickly expanded his company to other engineering projects. Being a shrewd business man he understood the value of diversity. As SI grew and flourished Howard did not. He began to drink heavily and experience Shell Shock. His personal friends all drifted away and Howard started becoming more reclusive. Then he meet a young woman named Maria Carbonell. The young girl was the daughter of a Board member. Howard was smitten with the girl and sought her out each time she attended a SI function.
The Beginnings of Tony StarkHoward and Maria dance around each other for a few years. It wasn't until she was in her twenties she accepted his advances. The two married shortly after despite protest over their age difference. Maria and Howard had separate lives however. Neither one of them was willing to drop everything to be with the other. Their marriage quickly become one of long distance. Rumor quickly spread that the two were only married for convenience and to advance the Stark-Carbonell alliance. Those rumors persisted until 1982 when Maria announced to the world that she was pregnant. Eight months later a healthy baby boy was born. They named him Anthony after Maria's Grandfather and Edward after Howard's. Still work was more pressing than the baby. He was raised by a succession of nannies each one leaving faster than the last. His obvious intelligence was making the young toddler quite a handful. Howard and Maria weren't quite sure how to handle their child either. Neither of them were the nurturing type nor had they been raised that way. Which left little Tony in a neglectful environment.
Debauchery and DeathBy the time Tony neared his ninth birthday the Starks were at wit's end on how to deal with the boy. He was too smart for his own good. No daycare would take him. He couldn't be locked up because he always found a way to escape. The only ones who seemed capable of handling the boy were the Stark's servants, Edwin and Anna Jarvis. But even those two couldn't keep him out of trouble. When Tony was nine he broke into his father's lab and built himself a circuit board out of Howard's current project. Furious the man enrolled Tony in a Boarding school with the words; "If he isn't going to behave like a child I'm not going to treat him as one".
Life only got harder for the young Stark at boarding school. Being so young he was mocked and bullied. His only saving grace was the fact he was smarter than everyone else. Using that intelligence Tony graduated and went to college by the age of fifteen. M.I.T. gladly accepted the young genius. In half the time Tony earned a double major in Physics and Engineering. Unfortunately while in college he fell in with a bad crowd who encouraged self destructive behavior such as drugs, sex and alcohol. His life of being a partying playboy was well known by the time he was sixteen. Both of his parents expressed their disappointment in his lifestyle but it never discouraged him.
Tragedy struck Tony in 2004 when news reached him of his parent's death. Tony was twenty one and doing his best to sleep through the entire population of New York while he wasn't inventing weapons. Tony was thrust into the CEO position at SI per Howard's will. SI's partnership with Stane International became nearly none existent as Stane attempted a hostile take over. There was no time to acclimate. It was do or let Howard's legacy die. Somehow Tony managed to fend off the attack and keep SI. However while his attention had been divided the Company had become a little worse of wear. One of his employees, a Virginia Potts, stormed his office one day soon after and began to yell at him for stealing money from the company. Once the two sorted out of issues that someone else was cooking the books and not Tony, he offered Potts a job as his assistant.
Despite his rocky start and his penchant to consume copious amounts of alcohol and the occasional illicit drug, SI settled down into a state of normalcy.
Afghanistan and Losing a HeartWeapons demonstrations was something Tony often did. Whether it was on a battle field or at a weapons demo Tony was fond of showing off. His trip in 2014 to Afghanistan was no different. The new missile was a hit with the generals. They all praised it's effects and how much use it would be against Isis. The trip back to the airport was supposed to be uneventful. But nothing ever goes as planned. Something Tony was very familiar with. The party was attacked seriously injuring the engineer. The only reason he lived was that the group who kidnapped him took him to a cave where he was given life saving surgery. The man who preformed the operation was named Ho Yinsen. A skilled Asian physicist and engineer. He designed an artificial heart to replace Tony's perforated one.
The kidnappers were part of a terrorist group who called themselves the Ten Rings. They demanded that Tony make them weapons. When the inventor refused they tortured him. Over days they continued until Tony agreed to make them what they demanded. However unknown to the terrorists he used the materials they gave him to upgrade the artificial heart and to build the means to escape: The Ironman Armor. During his and Yinsen;s escape the older Asian man died while drawing attention away from Tony giving him the time he needed to finish the armor and escape.
Tony ended up miles away from the cave as his suit ran out of power. He wandered the desert until he came upon a US convoy. In said convoy was James Rhodes, one of the military contacts that worked with SI and best friend of Tony.
The Year of MeReturning to the States was hard. Tony refused to admit there was anything wrong with him. Instead he turned to trying to drink his problems away. That continued for a few weeks until he had a terrible bender that had him swearing off drinking in Yinsen's memory. Shortly after Tony built himself Mark II of the suit of Armor and Ironman debuted. As far as the world knew Ironman was a bodyguard for Tony. Tony used the Armor for the specific purpose of dismantling the Ten Rings. When he was finished with that he somehow ended up as a superhero. While he isn't quite sure how he managed that it makes him feel better about himself so he continues. As of 2016 Ironman has been active for nearly a year.
PersonalityTony is a hard person to pin down. Due to his upbringing he is remarkably self sufficient. He has also never quite mastered common social interaction skills. Therefore most of the time it seems like he's talking down to everyone. Or thinks himself better. While this may be true in some cases, Tony generally wants to please people. He's learned the hard way not to be so open or forthcoming. This has lead to a creation of certain personas. The first is the "Stark" persona he uses for all meetings, SI functions and press releases. "Stark" is haughty, arrogant and confident. He works the crowd and they love him for it. He has been referred to narcissistic and unfeeling in this persona, and sometimes a lot worse.
The second is his boss persona. He's aloof but not unapproachable. He also isn't shy about getting his hands dirty or trading the occasional workplace joke. However he always maintains a professional distance from his employees. Most of the SI workers describe this persona of Tony as a slightly eccentric scientist but a brilliant inventor.
The last is the true Tony Stark. The insecure and often depressed man who wants nothing but friends and a companion. He's absent minded but caring. He loves Rock music and the occasional heavy metal track. He also treats his creations like children, with a mix of fondness and exasperation.
Ironman BioIronman is known to have saved Tony Stark from terrorists in Afghanistan. No one is sure of his identity but it is generally accepted that he was also a prisoner with Stark. It is also assumed that Ironman was seriously wounded and the suit functions as life support. In the few interactions with the press both Stark and Ironman have encouraged this assumption. After his personal one man war in Afghanistan Ironman has been seen around New York helping out emergency responders -be they cops, firemen, or others- and earning himself a name as a superhero. The people aren't 100% sold on Ironman but the general consensus is that he is a hero not a villain.
