Haruka Sakamoto

"English?" came the slightly surprised response. The word lacking any vestiges of the normal half chewed accent that normally accompanied a native Japanese speaker. Haruka was not exactly trying to hide his origins, although with his name, appearance and ability to speak the local language he supposed he could probably pass for a native Japanese. Or native Academy City...ian(how did that even even go? Native Academian?)

In any case the rest of what he said was in Japanese.

"So I guess you must be pretty happy about getting a Sorceress rank, huh? I hope I can get that high."

From the look of things people showed off whatever spells they had and tried to impress the teacher. Not too hard all told.

I suppose I could start with that, it would certainly leave an impression. Although I suppose it would leave me somewhat helpless to carry out any additional tasks the teacher may ask of me.
Haruka Sakamoto

Well it seemed that nobody had noticed his tardiness at least. Or so it seemed to Haruka as he made his way over to where all the other magic users were currently getting their powers measured. In fact it sounded like two people were just getting their ranks now.

"Anderson, Magus, rank two. Rebekah, Sorceress, rank four."

Haruka winced. He was glad he was not that Anderson guy, getting outshone that badly would not be fun. Whatever the case it seemed like his turn was going to have to wait a bit. Taking a deep breath he settled his breathing from his dash here. It would hardly do to come walking up to the group out of breath.

Plus it helped him bring his heart rate down from it's current rate of way-too-fast-too-be-healthy.

A girl currently stepping away from the testing area caught his eye as he scanned the small crowd

Might as well jump into the deep end

He quickly made his way over to her, swallowed what nervousness he could and held out his hand.

Hey there. I'm Sakamoto Haruka, what's your name?"
People having ready made defenses against something that only one person has so far is a bit out there, yeah. But having telepathy that nobody can even tell is active is just broken from the start.

People can learn how to block physical attacks pretty much instantly. I'm not saying it's the same as a mental attack but it's a whole lot closer than figuring out how to solve a random computer problem from scratch.

<Snipped quote by Ryonara>

Not to sound as though I designed this specifically for you but since its become relevant and likely to pop up in my next post: Sapphire's father was a hard core hunter who turned unstable after his wife died. He put his daughter through some serious shit to make sure that she was ready for Beacon, which included mental training from someone who a telepathic semblance.

Speaking of having ready made mental defenses. I'm with Ryonara on this one. Just happening to have been trained by some level of telepath in case somebody with an incredibly rare semblance happens to attack her is really fortunate and specific.
Not going to get any friends acting like that.

Not being able to properly defend against a mental attack makes a certain amount of sense. Leaving out theoretical knowledge like what we have at least. Not even being able to tell if somebody else is reading your mind is something else.

Being able to read a person's thoughts without entering their mind would require that everybody be partial telepaths that send out their thoughts but are unable to pick up those of others.

Either they have to send it out or you have to go get it.
This is my way of having Ebon help, but yes. He's going to do this to blackmail Shiro.

Heck, you can have Seraph torture Shiro if you'd want. Ebon is just going to keep looking for those daggers while you fight for your life, and take them while you're busy. And even if Shiro somehow survives he'll never find those daggers because Ebon will have them.

I'm not an expert on this by any means but uh...pretty sure you start getting the teacher's involved at that point and risks of getting expelled if the target of the blackmail does the logical thing and tells on you.

And telepathy well, unless the other person is a telepath the only way to hear their thoughts is to get inside their head. Having an entirely different person poking around in somebody's head is bound to catch their attention.
Beryl Harken- VGNB Dorm

"I have a few tricks to get into the air with. However it would be best if we did not built our strategies around that. My main focus is on distracting enemies and limiting their mobility so that my teammates can deal the finishing blows."

So far Beryl had been quiet. She still was having trouble trusting Gratia with Luke after that whole episode and her little slip of crazy had not helped matters. She had been leaning up against a nearby wall when their team leader entered the room.

Is she looking down her nose at me?

Beryl was not one to judge, but when one grows up in a church orphanage learning to read other people was just something you picked up. Especially once she started helping the priests get donations. Knowing what the potential doner thought would often be the difference between new shoes for the other kids or another month of table scraps.

Right now Beryl was picking up the distinct impression of a young "Ojou-sama" looking at a member of the "lower class"

It's alright Beryl, you deal with this all the time. Breath, just breath and don't punch your new team leader in the mouth

For now she contented herself with staying where she was and continuing to watch the proceedings with a small frown on her face.
Haruka Sakamoto

Did I fall into an anime at some point over the last few days?

It was an entirely fair thing to wonder as Haruka passed the third girl with a slice of toast in her mouth in his dash to get to Hybrid Academy before it got too late. It seemed that oversleep was more of a problem than the teenager figured, either that or there were a few too many people who played the part in hopes of getting a spot in their very own real life romcom.

As for Haruka...well it turns out that his alarm had been set for PM rather than AM. It was a miracle he had woken up at anything like the correct time to be honest. Now he was relying on all those long hours on the obstacle course to get him to school before it got too late.

Right now that meant sitting on top of a truck heading roughly towards his destination.

As it turned out the truck traveled to within a couple blocks of the school before turning off in another direction. Haruka dropped down as it started to turn, ignoring the odd looks nearby pedestrians were shooting him and took off sprinting the rest of the way to the school.

Apparently he was not the only person to be late today. Several other students were making their way through the gate ahead of him. It probably would not help him with the teachers but the fact made the Japanese-American feel better all the same. Making his way through the gates Haruka immediately started making his way towards the section of the school that was currently swimming in mana.

I guess that is where the magicians are being tested.

What Onarax said. The profile was fine, at least from my point of view. I just messed up a couple things while posting it.
Always up for an Index RPG. Mind if I join in?

Edit: Aaaand right off the bat I have to fix stuff.
