Bio

Maybe the real plot was the friends we made along the way. [Last Updated: April 3, 2022]

I'm 26 years old and I have learned not to share too much of my personal life on the internet. I work as an English and writing tutor at a local college.

I love literature and poetry, and I also enjoy writing, and I like to think I'm not half bad at it. I first started writing as a hobby with online roleplay at the start of 2010, and I've slowly drifted away from it in recent years. I enjoy most genres, but if I had to pick a couple of favorites, they would be sci-fi and high fantasy—heavy emphasis on the high fantasy. Some of my favorite characters have come from Elder Scrolls roleplays, since it appeals to the D&D nerd in me.

I have a tendency to get carried away with making my character sheets. I like telling their stories in the sheet sometimes even more than the roleplay itself, which depends on the roleplay itself of course. I want my readers to know how their background influences them as a person, how their personality bleeds into their appearance, and I love watching characters overcome their personal tragedies and finding their true selves as their identities shatter and reform like kintsugi. I've always been a fan of characters overcoming their weaknesses and obstacles and I try to make that show in many of my characters. Therefore, many of the narratives I explore come from a place of vulnerability, but I try to balance the heavy themes with light whimsy.

I also try to research whatever it is I'm writing about so that I'm not just spitting into the wind - unless that's what my character is doing, in which case I try to make sure that's made clear in my writing. It’s kind of hard to define my style, as I’m influenced by all sorts of literary movements and schools of criticism; dark romanticism, modernism, post-modernism, Marxism, feminism, post-structuralism—I have a lot of isms in my pocket. Nathaniel Hawthorne is one of my favorite dark romantic authors, Dickinson is one of my favorite naturalist poets, Judith Ortiz Cofer, Langston Hughes, and Robert Frost—they’ve all in some ways informed my writing, as well as many others. I even tend to look to some of my fellow guild mates for inspiration or analyze what I like about their writing and see what I can do to improve my own through their example.

Heard that. I'll get it sorted out tomorrow. It has been a long day for me today!
<Snipped quote by Spoopy Scary>

I understand but that's slightly the point, he got all this success while all the rest of the team has just now set out to find success and you will have already had it and plenty of it.

I mean that travelling merchants typically don't find success. If perhaps for some reason that Middleman had his success and lost it somehow, could that be viable, and he could be travelling to earn it back?

Maybe during the time that one single stall became an actual store and he some control over a small portion of the market back at one town? Because his wealth wouldn't travel with him and there aren't really any banking systems available yet. Most of his wealth would be back home. It'd be like a small isolated success. That'd be enough experience for Middleman so that he can provide as an actual asset to the party. Someone who is non-martial and is still learning the ropes of his trade wouldn't provide a thing. Even Furnace, as naive as the gnome is, has some powerful magic. The same can be said for Alula. Kelvin, while not really renowned for anything, can provide huge explosions. Carver is going through his rite of passage and has years of martial and religious training under his belt.
@Spoopy Scary Well since everyone is starting out in the world, I would prefer if we pushed him back to where his adventuring started, which according to your backstory would be when he started his first stall, I understand that's setting him way back but if we go further then he would already have this store bringing in money and all the others that he invested in, even if we started at where he first joined the black market there would still be a major cash income. I'm trying to see where we could place him without compromising your character but still keeping him equal with the party

Only issue I can see with that is that he spent most of his time at the stall and gathering stock from competition and travelers looking to sell their loot. A huge part of his success was because of the time and devotion he spent. Travelling traders wouldn't actually get by very well.
@Spoopy Scary I have gone over it entirely and I have a few problems,
1. I allowed 3 skills, sure you have three but one has three that fall under it, persuade, diplomacy (negotiate), and appraise. If I let everyone do that then everyone would know how to do everything. Separate these three, and then pick 4 (Yes four since I'm letting you level up too) between persuade, diplomacy, appraise, strategy, and knowledge(underworld)
2. Even though I love all the work you put into this, he seems a bit too powerful in the sense that all he would have to do is walk into a town and someone would know him and do anything for him putting him at way to big of an advantage and not only that but imagine the money intake, he could buy anything.
3. I would prefer if he was lesser known like the rest of the group, who are just starting out while you seem to already have your life together. It's like letting a level 20 join a level 1 team, get it?

Absolutely, I completely understand. This was a sort of fantastical character I had in my head for a while, so he is fully developed and whatnot. I can downgrade him to an earlier point in his history so that he isn't as well known, and maybe during the course of this campaign, we can fill out the rest (even though it'd be disappointingly predictable, but would still be interesting to see the journey up to that point). Any particular point in time you would prefer we push him back to? Maybe when he is first getting into the black market business?

And thanks for catching me on the three skills under one, I wasn't really thinking clearly on that. I'll probably scrap Knowledge (Underworld) if we're going to play an incarnation of Middleman who is just getting into the business.

I'd also like to thank everybody for the lovely compliments! I came home from 10 hours of work at the deli to see all this, so really, it feels good.
Okay, the first sheet destroyed itself in OpenOffice. Some parts of this are a little rushed. Let me know if you want anything fixed or if something doesn't make sense.

Henry's sheet isn't in the character thread or in this OOC, so, no; not really.
Petition for next plot to involve a cult kidnapping Carver and attempting to corrupt him and turn him evil.
Powers: Everything about his person was improved with his power's manifestation. His strength is incredible, his intellect is on par with some cerebral metas, and his senses and reflexes are at the pinnacle of sharp. He has just about ALL the abilities reptiles and some birds have (such as venom, wall crawling, etc), and an incredible form of color change that renders him nearly invisible to the naked eye.

I acknowledge that your sheet has already been accepted, but-- do I really need to say it?
Reyna, Mia, and Abe; assuming that Deebs is gonna join. I really want to use Reyna too, but I'm also wanting to know how this other character would turn out.
I was just considering making a character with those fungus powers I talked about a while back. Between growing edible portobellos, creating insulin, getting high, unleashing spores upon your enemies, poisoning your enemies, and causing those top notch decomposers on your enemies, I'm a jack-of-all-trades; can fuck shit up in some of them.
