@VitaVitaAR Well, one creates a physical object, the other creates illusions. The characters are entirely different, too, and so will be their actions.
Appearance: Cass is a youthful and slender adolescent of 17 years of age. Waves of medium-length, dark auburn hair are brushed back away from his face and kept neat and clean. His skin is light olive in tone, reflecting islander heritage, and unbroken aside from a number of tiny burn scars on his arms. His eyes are stale blue, neither large nor small, and his nose and jaw are straight and triangular.
Height: 6'2" / 188cm
Personality: Cass can be described as somewhat awkward, easygoing, and mirthful. He is lazy to a small degree, though recently has developed a strong sense of determination. He tends to avoid conflict even at his own expense, and stifles his anger and emotion.
Weapon of Choice / Fighting Style: Cass trains in most types of long-bladed swords. Lacking in experience and skill, he relies on his speed and reflexes when sparring, often keeping distance from his opponent and relying on hit-and-run techniques. As such, Cass does not burden himself with heavy armor or a shield, fighting with only a single blade.
On any other day, Serefell would look like most other cities across the Crystal Isles: clean, bustling, merry, and under the tranquil light of a long-lasting peace. But in that summer, like every fifth summer before in the eastern streets of the city, weapons littered the ground, armor makers peddled their wares, smiths' hammers rang out loud against their anvils, and grand tapestries depicting battle hung high. This was not a time of war - for soldiers were not present, and in that era of rich development, few had any desire to hold a blade aside from imaginative children, and combat had withdrawn strictly to sport - but it was broadly known that within Serefell took place one of the greatest fighting competitions in the land: the Grand Trial.
Companies from far and wide came together to enter their greatest masters of the spear, axe, staff, and sword into the Grand Trial. Some fought for fame and fortune. Others, for honor. Some fought for the simple thrill of battle. No matter the reason, the outcome was clear: only one would bring glory to their people and become renowned throughout history as Champion.
The Ravenwood Dojo was located on the edge of a large forest of tall deciduous trees, on the Crystal Isles' westernmost island, the Scarlet Key. Initially formed by Swordmaster Riclan, the dojo teaches combat in a wide range of weapons and styles. The dojo is about half an hour south of the town of Ravenwood, which is itself half a day's ride from the island's largest city, Nanova.
Most of the dojo's students are from Ravenwood, but there are some outlanders who traveled far for Master Riclan's tutelage and stay within the dojo itself. The dojo is austere, consisting of tall wood walls, sliding doors, a large central room, and several dozen training weapons.
While Ravenwood might seem obscure and unimportant, it is rumored that the blood of the Crystal Isles' first warriors flows strong there...the men and women who once defended the Isles against the invasions from the mainland.
You are an aspiring warrior who has followed the tales of Master Riclan. Whatever your reason for fighting, you will now begin your journey as you take your first steps into the Ravenwood Dojo.
Clash is a roleplay about mixed weapons martial arts. I've followed weapons training pretty avidly my entire life and this is to scratch an itch I have regarding sports roleplaying and heavy character development. I've taken pretty heavy inspiration from boxing movies and Hajime no Ippo, and I'd like to reflect that sort of feeling in a fantasy environment.
In Clash, mixed weapons martial arts is like boxing or MMA in the modern world. Fighting and war doesn't really happen, there's general peace, and so people have made fighting into a sport. Our characters will be (preferentially) from a single dojo. They will undergo training in any form of combat you wish (be as creative as you like) including magic, though I would ask that you run your style of magic by me first as I would like this to remain mostly physical. I would also prefer our characters begin young and mostly untrained (maybe one or two years into it, but not having very much experience in tournaments or renown). Lots of time will pass through the course of the roleplay, giving our characters a large amount of development.
When our characters actually compete in a tournament, there will be no player-versus-player matches unless the players work things out between themselves and decide who wins. Sparring matches can be on-the-fly as there doesn't need to be a winner.
The story won't be all training and tournaments, of course. Scandals, nights on the town, travel, and other conflicts will happen. But the focus of the story is character and strength development.
Appearance: Seta is an athletic teenager standing at 5'10. His face angular and youthful, with large dark eyes and high cheekbones, yet often covered with thick, dark stubble. His black hair is worn short and gelled, shaved on either side of his head. Seta has a penchant for altering dress code, often rolling his sleeves up and unbuttoning his collar.
Personality: Seta is usually brooding or quiet. Completely introverted, he often does not act out or do anything on his own, but prefers to mimic the people around him, usually his childhood friends. He has never revealed his true thoughts or intentions. Seta enjoys being accepted by others and earning praise, and can be competitive and possessive when it comes to the affection of others. His circle of friends would be considered the rebels of the school, and so Seta often defaults to their careless and delinquent behavior. Seta's mental state can seem to border psychosis, and while he is fully in tune with empathy, he is able to detach himself from his emotions and find opportunity in even the darkest situations.
Skills: Seta has developed basic strength corresponding to a minimal exercise routine, and has a good sense of balance. From years spent trying to fit in, Seta possesses a strong ability for reading the emotions of others, mimicking behavioral patterns, and fabricating stories on the spot. He is very cautious and calculating, and can often keep a clear mind under pressure.
Soul Arts: Gekijo no Kage - The Gekijo no Kage chip, inserted into a slot superior to the foramen magnum on the back of the user's head, allows the user to conjur illusions affecting the senses. These illusions are not simply tricks of the mind, but an extension of the user's consciousness. They must be created proximal to the user, but beyond that can traverse any length of space from the user and can be used to conjure further illusion. The current user, Seta Hikaru, has only basic ability with the Soul Art, and his illusions can only affect sight and sound and are minute in scale.
Brief Backstory: Seta was raised by a narcissistic drug-addicted father and a victimized mother. Struggling to make ends meet, they spent Seta's childhood in low-income neighborhoods rife with petty crime and violence. The children Seta grew up with often spent their days inciting local mayhem and running from authorities. Seta's father eventually left the family, and his mother cycled through other companions every several months, the best of them treating Seta indifferently. Seta now attends Yamamura High with his childhood friends, and is seen as one of the school's undesirables.

Thanks, guys! I'll get some stuff together soon. In the mean time here are some character prompts for personal use (you don't have to post your answers):
Why did you character join or why do they want to join a weapons martial arts dojo?
What are your characters parents like? Does your character live with them? How do they feel about martial arts?
How does your character feel about violence and killing?
What kind of fighting style does your character like to employ? What are your characters' best and worst physical attributes that may reflect this?
How does your character feel about losing and competition?
What does your character do for money outside of martial arts?
Was your character born locally (following local trends and customs) or are they an outlander with different views on martial arts?
