Rats & Spiders- While sitting in jail, they would crawl over her in the middle of the night, or bite at her toes, fingers, legs, etc. The spiders crawling on her gave her the heebie-jeebies, and she never could fully get away from them. In a blackcell, there was no escaping the paranoia, no real rest, compounded on top of the fear of facing the gallows. In small numbers they are fine, but even that makes her rattled. The idea of rats burrowing into her flesh or eating her alive or even corpse is quite unnerving. Spiders... JUST NO! And that's without the Lolth connotations.
Confinement & Tight spaces - A free spirit, Luthie often favors being out of doors and enjoys open spaces. Her time in a blackcell has made her enjoy her freedom all the more, and abhors the idea of being locked in a black box for days, weeks... years. She will not willingly go back. Confined spaces make her feel trapped, and may become unreasoning in her attempt to get out or get free.

Darkvision (60'): Accustomed to twilit forests and the night sky, she has superior vision in dark and dim conditions. She can see in dim light within 60 feet of himself as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. She can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Fey Ancestry: She has advantage on saving throws against being charmed, and magic can't put her to sleep.
Keen Senses: Like all Elven kind, she has keen vision and hearing, giving hher proficiency on all perception checks.
Trance: Elves don't need to sleep. Instead, they meditate deeply, remaining semiconscious, for 4 hours a day. (The Common word for such meditation is "trance.") While meditating, Luthie can dream after a fashion; such dreams are actually mental exercises that have become reflexive through years of practice. Elven Weapon Training: Elves consider the arts of archery and sorcery to be a lofty pursuit, sharpening the mind and the senses, and being applicable through life. It is entertainment, focus, and expression. All high elves and wood elves learn to use the longbow (warband) and shortbow (hunter's band), as well as the shortsword and the longsword. Luthie is proficient in these weapons and skills.

Weapons Skills: Luthie has spent most of her life with a weapon in hand, and has trained in just about every type of weapon there is. She is proficient in simple and martial weapons.
Gambling (Playing Cards): Military and mercenary work is interspersed with long hours of boredom, punctuated by moments of sheer terror. In this regard, Luthie has become skilled at card games. It is a way to win money, pass the time, and to learn about people.
Acrobatics: This covers attempts to stay on her feet in a tricky situation, such as when trying to run across a sheet of ice, balance on a tightrope, or stay upright on a rocking ship’s deck. Insight: Your Wisdom (Insight) check decides whether you can determine the true intentions of a creature, such as when searching out a lie or predicting someone’s next move. Doing so involves gleaning clues from body Language, Speech habits, and changes in mannerisms. You learn to size up and read your enemy, predict his moves, and flow through his guard like a scythe through wheat.
Persuasion: When you attempt to influence someone or a group of people with tact, social graces, or good nature, the GM might ask you to make a Charisma (Persuasion) check. Typically, you use persuasion when acting in good faith, to foster friendships, make cordial requests, or exhibit proper etiquette. Examples of persuading others include convincing a chamberlain to let your party see the king, negotiating peace between warring tribes, or inspiring a crowd of townsfolk. Mercenaries who threaten employers don't get second contracts. Be professional. Be polite. But have a plan to kill every person in the room if you have to.
Perception: Your Wisdom (Perception) check lets you spot, hear, or otherwise detect the presence of something. It measures your general awareness of your surroundings and the keenness of your senses. For example, you might try to hear a conversation through a closed door, eavesdrop under an open window, or hear Monsters moving stealthily in the forest. Or you might try to spot things that are obscured or easy to miss, whether they are orcs lying in ambush on a road, thugs hiding in the shadows of an alley, or candlelight under a closed secret door. Two-Weapon Fighting: When you engage in two-weapon fighting, you can add your ability modifier to the damage of the second attack. Trained to use one or two weapons simultaneously with minimal effort or wasted energy, Luthie is surgically precise with anything in hand.
Second Wind: You have a limited well of stamina that you can draw on to protect yourself from harm. On your turn, you can use a bonus action to regain hit points equal to 1d10 + your fighter level. Once you use this feature, you must finish a short or long rest before you can use it again.

History
Born simply as Mella, she is the only child of Ivellios and Adria Teinithra. Her father and mother respectively lived comfortably. He works as a blacksmith for the smiths’ guild. Adria is a skilled sailor, but left Mella in her father’s care after after a time. She visits home often and frequently has wild tales for her only daughter.
Mella was raised with her father in a small house that was more of a cottage. It was comfortable, and it always managed to feel like home. She grew up happy, and mostly carefree. She had several friends and was fairly well liked, but was by no means always the center of attention. With her father working the forges often, whenever her uncle Berrian, or Uncle Berri as she called him, was in town she would spend time with him. He often had stories to tell as well, as he was a soldier and then mercenary. Having grown up around the forge, and plenty of common folk, as well as seasoned fighters, it didn’t take long for Uncle Berri’s stories to be told in a less child-like fashion. She was smart, and read between the lines and proved to mature a bit faster than some of her kind.
When she was big enough, her father and her uncle, and her mother along with others began to teach her the way of the bow and the arts of swordplay. Turns out she was a natural at it, and could use most any weapon quickly. Often she practiced at the forge, familiarizing herself with pretty much any weapon that came through. This only made her a stronger young woman, and she helped when she could.
Eventually, she decided to follow neither her mother nor her father precisely. Instead, she followed her uncle into the trade of being a warrior, a soldier. She had learned to hunt, and even to track to some extent. She was naturally stealthy and light on her feet. Once she joined the military, she did a term as a soldier, and learned the basics of scouting and small unit tactics, skirmishing, and of course the basics of infantry warfare. She quickly rose to the rank of sergeant, demonstrating skill, and knowledge, but also having some knack for leadership. She was sharper, and able to handle new information quickly.
Eventually she left the military, and instead saw a lucrative opportunity selling her skills to other militaries, and eventually fell in with the Phoenix Legion. Known for being tough, with a can-do attitude, all-go, no quit. Once they accepted a contract, they would do their best to see it done. But they chose contracts carefully. The Legion suited her and she joined their ranks. They found her skilled, but she soon found a teacher with Rolen “Sai” Caerdonel.
About a century older, he is a skilled weapon master, and is a masterful swordsman. He furthered Luthie’s education in the arts of war, and sought to make her a peerless fighter like himself. Always believing in economy of motion and energy, of wasting no effort, he trained Luthie in this same fashion. Her master taught her to master the blade, and imparted his knowledge and experience on how to get the most out of her weapon. She trained until they became extensions of her own body. Precision, elegance, grace, total control, and never any wasted effort. Efficiency is the key, especially for a prolonged battle.
During her training days under Master Rolen, she befriended Maiko. She too trained with Rolen, and proved to be adept with single blades, but would use two as well. An inch shorter, slighter, with dark hair, and features of the far east, she became like a scary little shadow, and not someone to fight in close quarters. She grew up a butcher’s daughter, and she understood the blade, and how to take a body apart in a way that was frightening.
Eventually the fell into Raptor Company within the Phoenix Legion. They proved to be a small scouting and skirmishing unit. Some of the best. Most of them were scouts, rangers, bowmen. There was a need for skilled fighters to both lead and to lay down the pain. Shortly after her joining, another companion made his way to the Raptors. A man by the name of Idu. Dark complected, and built like a military recruiting poster - Broad at the shoulder, narrow at the hips, and only a little bit of body fat on him, enough to power the thick layers of muscle put on with years of farming. Quiet, unassuming much of the time, with a few drinks in him he becomes rowdy and entertaining. But too many can tap into the breathtaking anger beneath which is mostly only seen on the field when The Raptors strike. Idu has always been intriguing to Luthie,and she has found herself interested in him. By the same token she’d developed at least a small interest in Maiko as well, as she was something of an enigma.
During one of the lulls between action with Raptor Company, she spent some time traveling, and wound up in an altercation with a high elf in a tavern called The Bawdy Harlot by the name of Bethrynna. She heckled one of the local entertainers and they took offense to it, drew blades and attacked her. After several quick attempted stabs, Luthie had little recourse but to defend herself. Quickly disarming and appropriating one of the daggers, training took over, and before she realized it the other woman was on the floor bleeding out, expiring in seconds.
She was arrested, and thrown in a blackcell for days, if not weeks. She has no idea how long she was in there before standing trial. There were at least a dozen witnesses, who all shared the story. One thing was a constant, in that Luthie never swung first, She spent most of her time running or just evading or blocking, until it was clear she was going to get wrecked if she didn’t do something. She expressed her regret and remorse. The battlefield was one matter, but someone who probably would have been fine if neither of them were inebriated, and who probably would have regretted things in the morning was another matter. The powers that be ruled it as a case of self-defense. Given a stern warning to not cause further trouble, and with a subtle message of get out of town and don’t come back for a while. She would have to live with the blood on her hands.
The time in the blackcells left her with a variation of claustrophobia, arachnophobia, and a fear of rats,
Shortly afterward she was befriended by a half-elf by the name of Cyro, another performer. A poet and musician, but more than that. He was sensitive to the plight and what happened, and offered some friendly advice. The two became friends over drinks and still are to this day. They have been getting along famously and both are rebels and perhaps each of them are a bit of a troublemaker but both are pure of heart.
Soon after, she ran into a male half-orc by the name of Korag. Turns out he was a fan and friend of Bethrynna. He blamed Luthie for the death of his friend, but it seemed like it might have been more. He immediately took the opportunity to pound her into unconsciousness, leaving her to wake up in an alley, but otherwise unmolested. This was compounded with a threat to ruin her, and that he would probably kill her next time he saw her, certainly if on a battlefield. He knew who she was by then, and didn’t feel the need to end another warrior’s life in a bar fight like she had done.
The sting of dishonor was probably worse than the physical injuries. Her jaw was sore for a couple of days, but she still carries his words in her head and heart. It wasn’t anything worse than what she’d told herself, but … hearing it from someone else after such a beating… It stuck with her.
Back in the field with Raptor Company, she was given command of her unit after taking over for the previous Lieutenant. Things were going well, until the day she had to requisition supplies for her unit from a local town. They’d had dealings with Raptor Company before, but refused to deal with her because she was a woman. They wanted to deal with her former C.O. and insisted on his signature on the requisitions. He was dead, and they weren’t taking no for an answer, so she signed his name as best she could. It was close. The supplies were provided, but soon after someone higher up in the magistrate noted the forgery. They weren’t happy about it and she is now wanted as a ‘person of interest.’ Her service is currently suspended and her pay is completely docked for the time being, but she is now able to return to active duty. Her superiors weren’t happy about the forgery but did commend her field expediency and flexibility.
With the ups and downs, soon after another devastating blow came into Luthie’s life. Her lover, her girlfriend, and partner Ragna, she found hanging from a rope in their room in an inn by the neck. Seemingly she had committed suicide. The note she found and journal that Ragna left behind were troubled and devastating, as she had hid well her feelings from Luthie. She still doesn’t talk about it.
Soon after, Cyro showed up. She confided in him about the leave of absence, and what happened to Ragna. It was something she still hasn’t fully come to grips with, as suicide was a thought that never even entered her mind before. Cyro offered to teach her forgery and so on, which was surprising, but for the time being she needed a friend more than anything.
The hits just kept coming as days later, she received word via a letter that Idu had gone missing from the Company and had not been seen at home either. This left her in perhaps a worse state, but at least she had a mission to find him. A short time later another person arrived, Rolen Amakirr. He came to tell her that her uncle Berrien had been killed in combat, slaughtered almost to a man in a valiant fight against the red dragon Ignathrix. Since then she’s done a couple small jobs, protection details mostly, netting her a little extra money. But now she is concerned for Idu, and perhaps Mai, as she doesn't wonder if Korag did something to her friend. And so it is that she has set off with Cyro and Rolen in tow.

The two became friends, often fighting side by side. Ragna protected her sides, and slowed down the enemy while Luthie went through them like a scythe through wheat. They began fighting as a pair, and were fast friends. She was wise, strong, and good with her hands. And she was very good at expressing herself, dealing with superior officers. She could be forceful when needed, but balanced. They drew close on and off the field, and Luthie found that she was not only attracted to Ragna, but realized that just hearing her voice, or hearing her name made her light up like the stars. For a time she didn't say anything, but then did find out that Ragna, like her enjoyed women and men alike, and when she confessed her feelings. Ragna simply smiled and told her she knew. The two became lovers not long afterward. Which made Luthie's head spin. Not long ago though, joy turned to pain, ash, and tragedy. One day when both women were away from work Luthie came back to their room at the inn they were staying at to find Ragna hanging by the neck from the rafter in an apparent suicide. So he found me, threatened to kill me if he ever saw me again, and threatened to ruin my life. Then he punched me out. Left me in an alley with a note that said he wouldn't just kill me in a barfight, like I did his friend. He had more honor than that. It stung. Darkvision (60'): Accustomed to twilit forests and the night sky, he has superior vision in dark and dim conditions. He can see in dim light within 60 feet of himself as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. He can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Born with the child-name of Eryn the wood elf is now known as Aerdeth of the Sylvaranth family. Born within the family home, he is the fourth of six children, having three older sisters and two younger brothers. Aerdeth and his siblings were able to live a fairly comfortable lifestyle growing up due to their father Lucan's success as a merchant, and their mother Caelynn who is a prominent priestess. They had a small, modest home that is likely best described as a nice cottage. Aerdeth had a fairly normal upbringing, having a few close friends. The kids alternated between 'helping' Lucan with the family business and spending time at the temple with Caelynn.
Having lived a solid 112 years of life thus far, he's been in and out of love, made friends with at least one adventurer, made an enemy out of another who forced him into seclusion.
He's already had one adventure that left him wounded. It healed properly, but it still pains him occasionally.
Like his siblings, he spent time working the family business, but had to flee with what little savings he could brings. He spent a while in the wilderness while pondering what to do. Being out of doors, and away from people bothered him little, and gave him an opportunity to think.
Eventually as he scratched out an existence in the woods, meditated, and worked, he discovered some kind of power or ability within him. With that, he set out to explore that power and find out what it was, and how to use it.
Eventually he made his way to a monastary high in the mountains, precarious as it looked over a valley. Isolated from the world, it sat high within spires of rock thrust up from the earth in similar fashion. The altitude was already teeming with ki, and here was a perfect place to train in lower oxygen. A stylized bronze dragon. His master was kind and generous, never critical of his progress. Nevertheless, Aerdeth feels he never fully lived up to the expectations placed on him.

I became a hermit because I am comfortable with being isolated, as I seek inner peace. My enemies ruined my reputation, and | fled to the wilds to avoid further disparagement I became a monk because I could feel that a special sort of power lay within me, so I sought out those who could help me call it forth and master it.
Jen shook her head, causing the puff ball of light to shift with her movement. She reached up cupping her hand around it to whisper something to it. It bobbed once, then shot toward Kriv only to arc around, swirling over his head before settling a few inches above it. She'd learned in the last month or so that her sight in the darkness was far better than his. He needed the light more than she.
"No, no it's not," she murmured as she shifted to her right along the shelves pressed against the wall. "After you," she said gesturing toward the far door. It would be better for him to go first, as he was bigger and the rest of the cellar might well prove to be just as cramped.
As the door opens under Kriv's touch the hinges squeak just a bit though relatively quietly. The odor is a bit stronger, wafting past both of them. In the cold light that spills into the room the walls are lined with shelves, barrels and crates. Two large barrels on their side are butted up against the far side of a quite large crate, blocking a good portion of the view of the rest of the room. There was loud cheebling and a few squeaks. There came a scratching of small claws on stone and wood. In the edges of the light two pairs of beady red eyes glint in the reflected light.
Angry screeches and hisses erupt from the shadows before two rats, both the size of medium dogs come rushing out of the dark. Their clawed feet scrabble on the stone as they rush for Kriv as he was in the lead. Their teeth are barred, but as quick as they were, the Dragonborn would be faster.
Jen would be right behind him, her actions almost as swift.

After a second Jen slipped to her feet, standing up to stretch, arching back a bit, then reached down and picked her pack up off the floor. Sorting through it she pulled her quiver of bolts free and strapped it to her right thigh, then snapped the limbs of her crossbow into place, making sure they were tightly in place, and placed the string, making sure it was taut. Quickly she pulled it back and locked it in, then placed a bolt at the ready. A second later it was slung back over her shoulder, ready for quick access but clearly not presented in a threatening manner. "Just in case," she said as she brushed past Kriv, letting one hand lightly trail over his midriff, a physical marker of his location so she didn't pass too close. It was completely unconscious as she headed for the back rooms, wafting a trail of something that was a soft exotic floral scent.
One slender hand pushed open the smooth stone door. It was perfectly balanced on it's hinges so the weight was almost negligible. Well oiled it barely made a sound. The kitchen was ahead of them with a couple of ovens and cooking spaces, a big butcher's block that was being used for a prep station, and a few racks of rolls that were rising. There was also a big wooden box off to one side and a couple of doors leading out. A couple of staff gave them looks. One was an older human woman, and another was a younger girl, maybe eighteen at the oldest.
Without giving them any attention, the sable-haired sorceress made her way to a large trap door in the floor and lifted it with relative ease. It was an inch thick, and made of sturdy wood. A cellar yawned below them with simple steps down into the darkness below. "Don't go down there miss," the older of the cooks exclaimed, one hand reached out toward the trap door as if to stop them from across the room. "It's dangerous! Big rats! Huuuuuge!"
"We know," Jen said, then muttered a word under her breath. A moment later glittering flecks of light, cyan and cold ice blue in color gathered around her, swirling in a slow light show before gathering together in a ball over her head, the size of a ping-pong ball. It cast bright cold blue-white light around. "Don't open this door until we come back out of it," she told the woman in a tone that would broker no questions. Moving smoothly she descended into the pitch darkness.
Once Kriv was in the door thunked into place again. "Here we go."
The room around Kriv and Jen is maybe six by six. There are shelves here with small boxes and containers and jars of canned vegetables and other foods. there are a few cleaning supplies and a few stacks of towels and rags. This is clearly not enough to keep a brisk business like the Meadhall going. The air is cool, chilled by the lack of ground heat. It is perfect for storing things though. Distantly there is a stench that seeps through the room. it is like something has been rotting or a lot of things rotting and decaying mixed with shit and piss.
Distantly are the sounds of scratches and chitterings. Something shifts. There is one door ahead on the far side of the room, on the far right. The sounds come from behind it. And one could guess that is where the smell was coming from too.
Jen wrinkled her nose at the odor and shook her head, causing the ball of light to stir a little. "Well that's not good. Does it normally smell like this down here?"
"Thaga over there says she has a rat problem. Says they keep her from getting to her supplies and the like in the store room. I wouldn't think it would be a big issue. Apparently this has been going on for weeks. If it wasn't for fresh stuff being delivered, she'd have had to shut down by now. It's putting a real damper on things and causing her business problems. Not to mention there's food safety concerns. So she wants us to get rid of them, clean them out." Her face curled in disgust a bit but she shrugged.
"She said they were pretty big. I hate rats but... There are worse things. I figure it won't take us that long to play exterminator. Are you good with that?" Her hands were folded one over the other, fingers laced together on the table top as she asked the question. Her shoulders back, spine straight, head erect, and her gaze focused on him. She was clearly in business mode, but somehow it only improved on her bearing.
Inwardly she was fairly sure it would suit his sensibilities, and it would be good experience. It would benefit the bar owner, and help keep a good business in operation, make everyone's lives safer and better. And it would save them coinage. On that thought she was reminded of another portion of the discussion. "If we find anything shiny the rats dug up, Thaga says we can keep it."
The sorceress shook her head. "Noo~oo? Why," she said in confusion. "You were just bitching about money. One room is cheaper than two. We've been traveling together for weeks. We've slept next to each other before, more than once. It wouldn't be any different really." She gave him a look then as if to suggest that he was being foolish or childish, then drummed the oval shaped nails of her right hand on the polished tabletop. "Feel free to spend twice the amount of money when resources are already finite."
With that she slid out of the booth, peeling her cloak back, dressed in dark blues and greens of her traveling clothes, and their high quality. Once more she slipped through the crowd like hanging willow ends in a soft breeze, possessed of an elvish grace she wasn't even fully aware of as she made her way to the bar. Once there she began to exchange quiet words with a relatively pleasant looking female dwarf with straw blonde hair, and bright blue eyes in a rapid exchange. Things looked tense for a few moments, before there was an exchange of nods and a brief clasping of forearms. It seemed an accord had been reached.
A few moments later she slid back into the seat opposite Kriv. "Alright, well, that's settled. We have a job, and once it's done we have a place to stay," she said, brushing off the previous sour note as though it had never even happened.
Catching his reaction she raised one sculpted eyebrow then broke into a grin, shaking her head. "Oh no, nothing like that. But I know you've walked as far as I have, covering a lot of ground. Days of being on a forced march," she said quietly as she followed suit with one of the rolls, sopping up some of the broth. Idly her eyes darted to the patrons once more. They seemed to glint faintly for a moment in the warm oil lamp light that shone through the Horse's Meadhall.
"I could do that though... But no. We're on the clock right now," she said with a smirk and shifted in her seat, crossing her right thigh over her left under the table. "So, did you want to see about getting a room here, or somewhere else?" Idly she bounced her foot, accidentally brushing against his right leg once, maybe twice. Both hands picked up the large mug and she took a decently long pull from it, giving him a chance to answer.
With his quip about spending gold like water she raised an eyebrow. "I know how to hold onto my money when needed too you know," she said, lapsing into silence until his apology, and then his musings about their next step.
It was then that the dwarven server from before made his way over carrying a large bowl filled almost to the brim with the same stew that Jen was having. "Eat," she directed, gesturing with her spoon in her right hand. "The rolls are to share. Butter on the side there. It's all quite good for being basics." As she spoke she glanced at their attendant. "No offense." He gave a small 'heh' and shrugged. "None taken. Simple food for simple folk. Keeps us strong and hearty. Sometimes it's the best." The sorceress nodded. "Sometimes," she agreed, then jerked her chin toward the rest of the patrons. "Off with ye," she said with a small wink and a grin. The squat figure turned and stumped off, then snapped a towel he carried at one of the patrons, flicking him in the ear. The patron had been pawing at one of the barmaids. "Knock it off, you got work to do still, Holdaff," he gruffed as he headed toward the bar.
Jenphira turned her silvery gaze back on Kriv. "I'll ask after we're done eating. And I know what you're thinking... That's not what I had in mind. I could but... no. I'm sure there are problems here that can be solved, or work that can be done. A place like this is always good for information. If our good dwarf doesn't know much, the barkeep probably will. Lots of gossip in places like this too."
