Recently played Blaster Master Zero. Fun game...but it got me thinking about a possible 1x1 RP using that as a setting. Not sure how well that would work, but I'm curious what folks think

@Poi - just wanted to say that "Moon Moon" was the name of our druid's wolf companion in a Pathfinder game some years ago - he had a hard time coming up with names, coined that, and it stuck adorably.

@Weird Tales - I'm diggin' the dog! I might like a slightly more in-depth description of the parameters of his powers (like what kinds of constructs, how long do they last, how hard can he hit, that kinda thing), but it's not necessary to add that to the CS, you can just explain it briefly here. And I do think you've added some character balance with the weaknesses that'll be interesting to see play out, what with another member of the party having electrokinetic powers and all...

@Lovisa Coldeyes - Looks like a start - I'll be able to give better feedback once the whole sheet is complete, of course. I'm still a little iffy on whether I like something as ephemeral as "luck" be a power, since it looks good on paper and in stories, but might be a little funky in an RP. Still, if everyone else in the RP is on board to work with writing good luck for the character in their posts, I don't see why it couldn't work - and it might end up being kinda fun, too!

Okay, to everyone: things did not go as planned this week, so I'm afraid that I'm not able to post the IC/OOC yet like I though. However, I should have time to finish it by Monday, and here is what we will do: post your CS in the OOC once it is up, I'll reply and let y'all know who should post their sheets in the characters tab, and then we can boogie in IC once the six slots are filled!
What I envision for the lodge is a group of individuals (some with powers, but all with a certain degree of bravery) bond together through an unlikely series of adventures that turn them into a team - a team that may eventually change, or save, the world of Faiza from a threat to all life and freedom. Part of the fun will be seeing the heroes grow and change as time goes on, part of it will be the sheer joy of exploration, danger, and adventure.

...and if there happen to be things like swimsuit episodes, romantic developments among the team or with other characters met along the way, and other hijinx that really are difficult to explain to people later but make you laugh really hard, well...

That'd be pretty bonus.

AND, if things go well, I may run other RPs set in this same world, but at different times and places. This RP will focus primarily on the lodgers, but Faiza is a big place, and they can't be everywhere at once.

...I'm not sure if that's the answer to the question that was asked, but I figure it never hurts to throw stuff like this out there, see what sticks. I mean, this general concept was run in different iterations in chatrooms a number of times for over a decade - some of which still exist in some form today. I'm trying to bring this concept to a more static form of RP medium.
I do have a starting adventure planned, as a way for the group to have a little practice working together and getting used to their characters as well as those of the other players. It will have to do with discovering a secret about the lodge, one which will have long-reaching implications for the group and the full resolution of which may take until the end of the RP to accomplish.

And, once we get past that, I have plenty of adventure seeds where I'll start a scenario - like the group going to the beach for a swim day, or hiking in the mountains - and allow the players to play their characters more deeply or just explore the world around them. This is where being more character-driven will come in; I'll be sharing more of the storytelling at this point, though if we get a little stuck, I'll do what I can to help us get back on track or introduce another avenue of plot to follow. I'll have to see how well we are getting on after the first adventure to see how well this will work.

The lodge probably works a little more like a small cabin rented for the weekend by a bunch of college students, if that helps in terms of comparison to how it is administrated. Learning how to work with each other with the limited resources available will be one of the challenges the characters will face.
I've probably emphasized her inability to handle social situations a bit too much; but my mental image is that she'll be a nice enough host, but she really doesn't have the charisma or social acuity to be a real leader. Mostly she's there to be "responsible" for the group staying at the lodge. Boxcar doesn't really care either way, but he does realize Nora's not really a bad person, and will nudge her in the right direction to make sure things don't fall completely apart at the lodge.

That said, the lodge itself is more of a pilot PR program for the corporation; it's more of a retreat than a hotel, with absolutely minimal staff. The PCs will be the only ones checking in at first, and they will have been handpicked (openly, or secretly) to go to the lodge. Nora and Boxcar will both have been sent in to keep an eye on things; it's possible a third NPC will be on hand to explain the facilities to them along with the PCs, then hand off the keys to Nora before driving off and leaving the group to their own devices. While there will be supplies on hand for food and bedding, they'll need to make occasional trips to the city to resupply. It's meant to be an escape from general society; the group will have to make their own fun, like go hiking, cave exploring, swimming, or training their powers out in places where they won't do much harm.

The lodge will be set in a range of mountains close to Segaso City, the capital city of the continent the lodge is located on. "Close" in this case means "several minutes by car." A lonely, dusty road leads to the lodge, which has a forest behind it leading deeper into the mountains, a lake in front of it for aquatic activities, and just enough room inside for the currently-planned eight people. One kitchen, one bathroom, one central room where everyone can watch TV or sit in front of the fireplace, a rec room, a hot tub, and eight small bedrooms.
Here are my current CSes for my two NPCs who will be running the lodge - part example, and partly so it may help the development of your own characters - how will they interact with these two?

I'm not worried about a CS or any real data if a character is primarily there just as background or to keep the story moving; nevertheless, fleshing out more about the world is always good, and may lead to story hooks later.

As for sword tech, the nation she's from might be renowned for its development of sword technology (along with a throwback to feudal concepts of honor and chivalry); I'm imagining high-ranking officers in the army would wield beam sabers, photon cutlasses, and the like, along with a sidearm. But other viable sword tech options might be monomolecular-edged blades, laser-edged blades, heat swords that are constructed out of a ceramic material allowing it to be heated up to high temperatures (a "firebrand"), a different sort of fire sword that is essentially a short-range concentrated flamethrower (it shoots a jet of flame much like a blowtorch, and requires a fuel source like a belt-attached fuel cell), or maybe a vibro-blade (using high-frequency vibrations through the blade to buzzsaw through matter).

I'm really planning on this being a world where a sword user could, theoretically (with the right powers, reflexes and skill) be able to fight off gun users - like Jedi, as an example. And energy weapons are just as viable as "real" bullet weapons. Hovercars will likely be a thing, though there is still room for wheeled vehicles or even legged vehicles. There will be advantages and disadvantages to all of these different types of tech, which is why they are all still present. A lot of the more advanced technology won't be available to the general public, which is why society hasn't radically changed from what we are used to in our modern day. Just a little flavor for the world.
TBH, I'm not sure how I'm managing the selection process so far; but a completed CS, or at least a complete character idea, goes a long way towards securing a spot. I'll probably make my selections based on who's still around by the time I get the IC/OOC post up and how much enthusiasm there still is at that point after people read the IC.

This RP will begin effectively at the lodge; I'm debating either letting the characters come to the lodge individually however they can or just en masse driving you all there in a tour bus or maybe a van. What say you all to those methods?
@Valor - I responded to your PM about the character; long story short, I believe Ashley will work once we've tinkered with a few things.

@MatthiasAngel - I think this will work - I want to have at least one place in the world that has a more feudal/medieval feel, and your character could be from that country or location on one of the five continents of Faiza. Or if you feel like it'd be better for her to be from a more metropolitan/capitalist kind of society, we can work on that too. Consider that her sword could be upgraded, whether by magic or technology, as the story progresses! Maybe she could be from a duchy or barony?

[@duskshine749 - I like that you're balancing out his powers with a direct disadvantage, since that means he might fry his friends if he gets too out of control, or hurt people he's trying to protect. Or just setting the lodge on fire. (Note to self; maybe make sure the lodge is fireproof to begin with. They'd think of this in advance, right?)

@Lucidnonsense - The only one I'd throw right out is the last one, mostly because it seems fitting more for an NPC than for a PC. It brings to mind visions of Mr. Mxyzptlk who makes a good "problem of the day" but could get tiring after a while very quickly for the rest of the group. The other options are all possibilities I'm willing to work with.

@Weird Tales - A psychic doggy! Definitely a fun idea - we can tinker on it a little. My kneejerk reaction is to maybe add some atavistic behavior to his personality, like struggling to control instinctual desires like chasing cars or following interesting scents, to balance out all the psychic powers he has, or just throttle back on them a bit. A good start though.

To all: obviously there is a good amount of interest in this RP at this time, so for now, I'll work on the IC/OOC and then we can hammer out characters in more detail once we see how the IC/OOC look like and whether people are still interested at that point. I'm still willing to chat about characters in this thread until the RP thread is up, but bear in mind I may make changes that may alter character suitability by the time I'm done with the IC/OOC, so you may have to update the character sheet appropriately.

This is my first interest check for an RP; and soon my first RP itself will be up. Thank you for your patience and willingness to work with me on this, as well as for your interest. I can't promise exactly when the thread will be up, but it's going to be one of my higher priorities this week.
With theme song added!

Slapping down a basic CS here for now as a start. I'll also create one of these for my two caretakers of the lodge as I get time, so you can have examples to look at.

Name: (what you're called)
Species: (whatever you want, pretty much)
Age: (minimum 15)
Gender: (male or female)
Personality: (what is your character like? What motivates them? What do they like or dislike?)
Appearance: (what do you look like? Try to include any important details, and one set of usual clothing)
Powers: (these are super powers - be creative, but balanced. As the RP progresses, you may gain more powers depending on the storyline and happenstance, so leave room to grow. Put N/A if you have no super powers, skills or racial abilities)
Strengths: (this is primarily talents that aren't superpowers, and can include learned skills and racial abilities that aren't "super")
Weaknesses: (this includes super-weaknesses)
Background: (basic history, origin of powers)
Misc. Notes: (anything important to the character that should be known, but for whatever reason doesn't fit into any other category)
