So, I notice you have After Contact here in your 1x1 and as a Nation check. As you probably already know, I have applied for the nation check. That being said, having a 1x1 character role-play going simultaneously with the Nation RP could be very fun. I am not sure if you are interested in this, or just thought the NRP died. Please let me know, as this seems very enticing.
Well, the nation roleplay version of it isn't dead. The 1x1 version is going to be a bit different from the nation roleplay. Plus, I don't usually give up on roleplay that easy. We will be forced at Africa/The Americas and we will play as a scientist and a mercenary. More could be explained, if you're interested in it.
As far as fandoms go I wholly agree with your outlook. I really only play fandoms that I know enough about to really interact with the world. I see you listed Star Wars as a possibility, which is the only one I would really feel comfortable with. The options within this would be Old Republic, Edge of the Empire, or something happening with the new movie (I am seeing that tomorrow, so no spoilers! :-) ). The other set of options are more along the lines of alternate worlds. My idea for this is that they follow the canon to a certain exact point and then we come in and do things on a larger scale of flexibility than within strict canon. This could be a different outcome with the fall of the Galactic Republic, Empire, or something else altogether.
I would be happy to do Star Wars within the Old Republic or Episode Seven. As for alternate worlds, I would do the fall of the Galactic Republic/Empire and Order 66.
Now, for my personal ideas, I have a few:
Identity, the Thief:

A mysterious agent of the Federal Republic of Agorika (FRA, synonymous with America except more war crimes in WW2) has infiltrated the inner circle of the People's Union of the Kraktotzra (PUK, Soviet Union equivalent with equal amount of war crimes) with a special device. The device reads, clones, and terminates a subjects DNA over a torturous 48 hour process. Because the device is a manufactured virus that needs sentient direction, a human host for the DNA must be provided. After the cloning is complete (hour 30) the virus escapes to the host organism and completes the same process on the host. The host's memories are saved into an implant and the DNA is grown to age of the subject. Upon this, the subjects memories are stored in the host's implant. The host then is able to switch between consciousness freely and both host and subject experience their surroundings. Essentially, it is a body switcher. The plot would involve sitting in on various diplomatic discussions as various people.
That is my most fleshed out idea. I also had this thing where the Crusades happens in a realistic fantasy scenario (essentially alt history) and you follow an Inquisition General and I follow a Pagan/Sand Devil Leader of some kind, but I am getting from your OP that you would probably be more interested in the first, and I haven't gone through that scenario enough yet.
So, it would be a Cold War set in the future? Interesting. I might give be interested in it some other time. The Crusades one looks good, but it needs more detail to get me interested in it.
