Wells finally realized how poorly he understood the humor of his fellow avatars. Seras nearly exploded with anger, as she stared into Wells' eyes. But he realized that yielding to her anger could make him lose control over the situation - and perhaps create a fight that nobody would win. So he took the time that Seras nearly shouted at him, and spent it thinking of a reply. After hearing her demand an apology for a stranger, he decided to reply in what he hoped would be a disappointing way. He thought it was the most fitting response to her attempts at insulting his maturity, by insisting that he fit in better among children. And finally, she tried to give him a handshake yet again. Wells looked at it, hoping that Sera's words would lose some of their power among the crowd while he seemingly thought about the handshake.
"Do they have fries at the children's table? Because I quite like fries, and I honestly don't mind children. They're willing to be blunt when they speak, and they don't seem to mind when others do the same. I quite appreciate your suggestion, Seras, although I doubt I would fit in a booster seat. It would be an excellent way to escape the formality that I often try to avoid, but that I never talked about... to avoid being too mean to Justine and the mayor. Another poor attempt to ease tension seems to have been made even worse by its response... yet again. Seems like more than enough reason to leave you to enjoy yourselves. Seras, I'll take your advice to heart. I've worked here as an apprentice, and know a great place for pizza. I'll go there on my own, and hope you enjoy yourselves here."
Wells started walking away from Seras, deciding not to shake her hand.
