About Me
I am a second year undergraduate student at the Rochester Institute of Technology which, as the name would suggest, is in Rochester, New York. I am studying Software Engineering – essentially, programming plus all of the processes, paperwork, etc. that I'll be doing in the real world. I have been programming in some capacity since I was eight, and once I discovered programming I simply never stopped writing code. Some of that code I've written was for this very website, and hopefully there will be a fair bit more of that in the near future.
I discovered programming in a game called ROBLOX, and coincidentally that is also where I first discovered roleplaying. One day I was exploring the forums, and noticed a roleplaying section. Curious, I took a look and I was instantly hooked. The content was mostly in the Free RP level, with a small amount of Casual tier games, but at the time even that was high quality content to me. Over the years my interest in the game faded, and although I continued programming after ultimately leaving the community, I did not continue roleplaying.
Years later, I gradually started wanting to get back into roleplaying. I began googling around, and after looking at a few different websites I finally decided that the Guild seemed to be the best of them all. I made an account on December 13, 2014, and started jumping into some games; I quickly decided on sticking to mostly High Casual, but eventually moved more towards Advanced as I realized that most of the games I was in were easily at that level anyway. This was right around the time that Mahz was working on rebuilding the website from the ground up, and after chatting with him for a while in the IRC during some site downtime I decided that I wanted to help.
I ultimately didn't contribute too much, but nevertheless I was the first (and so far, only) non-anonymous user to help Mahz with developing the website. As a reward, after he implemented the trophy system I was awarded the special Benevolent Cyberpunk trophy, which gives me a special userbit that looks like this:
After roughly a year and a half of being here, life started getting in the way more and more, and my activity became increasingly infrequent. Eventually, a little after the two year mark, I became completely inactive; I was in my senior year of high school, neck deep in college plans, and didn't have time for it anymore. I'd log in every now and then to check if I had missed anything, but until quite recently never stayed. I am back now, though, and hopefully I'm here to stay. I plan on getting back into roleplaying in the near future, and I also plan on starting to help out with the website once more. I've learned so much since when I first saw the code running the Guild, and hopefully I'll be significantly more helpful than I was back then!
"Damn it, Sonny..." Victoria thought as she heard the old man summon her. But she couldn't really be that mad; the former ring-leader had promised a way off this station, and perhaps some money as well. The money alone was enough to get her to go, as she was running low on Psyche and that stuff isn't cheap. Especially on the black market. Of course, that money wouldn't mean much stuck on a station crawling with GA men, but even if this plan fell through she was confident she could get away. Arrogant? Nah.
She looked at the loaded needle on the table longingly for a moment, then made her way towards where she'd heard his voice. She barely stumbled at all, as she had only just been getting started; the night is still young. As she walked in, Victoria noticed two other girls were already present, as well as Sonny and the man who she assumed was their "employer." She still wasn't convinced that this was anything more than a lonely man paying for one last good time before the GA came for him, but she knew very well that Sonny had put an end to that business quite a while ago.
"Sonny, couldn't you have waited a bit longer? There's a perfectly good needle out there calling my name," Victoria complained without giving a proper greeting at all. She sat down, crossing her legs immediately, so as to make it clear that nobody in this room would be bedding her tonight. Or tomorrow. Or ever, really. "Though to be fair, I could do worse," she thought, looking at the man that was to be her "employer" as she waited for whatever would happen next.
With the images however and something to note is that there would have to be work done in order to obtain copyright licencing, or permission to use.
It'd be much easier to make it clear that the GM chooses the images, not anyone involved with the site, and remove anything that someone comes to Mahz about. There isn't really any need to make sure everyone has permission to use what they do, only to make sure that the problem is eliminated as soon as it is brought up. Perhaps punish anyone who causes problems with this, as a way to encourage users to figure out if they are allowed to use something beforehand?
And I would probably leave them on personally, although the option to disable them on a case-by-case basis would be nice. I.e. one RP has a really great background that I want to see, but another one is just "unicorn vomit" which I don't want to see)
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES: Relatively short at 5’3”, in the dark she is easy to miss, and that’s how she likes it. However, a few characteristics make her easy to spot. As a result of regular, excessive drug use her eyes are almost always bloodshot. Additionally, she has suffered extreme burns, all the way from her pelvis to the back of her head (although nobody but her knows of her scars, especially on her head (she always wears a hood)... yet).
NOTABLE BEHAVIORAL TRAITS:
Dangerously addicted to drugs, predominantly Psyche
Very lonely, but refuses to admit it
Occasional hallucinations, flashbacks, and/or seizures (as a result of Psyche use)
Jumpy
NOTABLE ALLIES / CONNECTIONS: Well known by many prominent dealers in the black market; having become a “regular” of sorts, she has begun to gain their trust, perhaps even enough to call in a favor or two.
SKILLS:
Prodigious Telekenetic
Bartering
Evasion (Staying away from police, keeping a safe distance in fights, etc.)
Still too large on android as well. Could it possibly be related to the rendering issue Mahz cited as the source of the inconsistent font sizes as well?
@Ellri Odd, looks fine in win8 firefox, and that's with a terrible laptop resolution (on a desktop. Not my choice). Not sure what could be different between the win7 and win8 versions.
Just to be clear, to my knowledge the rp isn't dead, just at a bit of a lull in activity (if I'm wrong I'll edit accordingly). If you want to abandon ship that's fine, but don't think you have to just because we haven't been able to find time to get together and work on the missions.
I personally started with a slightly dumbed down version of Lua (RBX.Lua for the curious, used on a game called ROBLOX), then went to Java, "learning" Javascript and C# at the same time since Java and C# are practically the same language, and Javascript is obviously very related to Java. Afterwards I started C++, but I haven't done much there yet because lazy.
EDIT: It appears that my trophy now gives me a fancy userbit. Unexpected, but neat.
